I thought I´d share with you my absolute favorite hair accessory for the moment, my faithful beanie! I usually went with baseball caps or just slicking my enitre hair back with TONS of gel (remember that my hair is wavy and has great volume to it), but earlier this winter I looked for some inspiration and came upon Beckham´s use of beanie hats.
I think they actually give the impression of long hair, seeing as they have this "pocket" where the hair can be placed insinde the beanie, as well as actually being open on the backside, for eventual longer hair to stick out from.
Got me one in grey and one in black, andI use them daily in an attempt to not use the hot iron and as little as to no gel as I possibly can.
I find it a really good way to keep my hair at bay, and I am sure it will become even more so of a great too of restricting the hair in 6 months from now, in the middle of the awkward stage ;)
My bad ;)
I love beanies! They look awesome whether you've got short hair, long hair or no hair at all. They just look cool!
I tried baseball caps during my first awkward stage but as my hair grew longer a baseball cap just looked silly with all the hair sticking out. A beanie was perfect: instead of my hair sticking out at right angles it just appeared straight down as it grew. Now in my second awkward stage since my trim, the beanie is my natural choice.
Plus a beanie is so much cooler-looking than a baseball cap anyway.

Thanks for your help, Damon ;)
Yeah, I completely agree with you there! I love baseball caps, but as you said, once the hair gets a bit longer, it starts curling up all over the place, around and beind the ears, downwards and to the sides of the neck.. it sure doesnt stay under control. Beanies offer better control, and looks a whole lot better imho :)
Hi Raul,
I'm really liking the look of you with the beanie on! Before long, you will have your lovely dark hair back! Thanks for the great update photo! Have a great day my friend!
Ted
Hi Ted,
Thanks, bud.. it´s really comfortable, and as Damon says, it covers the entire hair, at least in my case, so it helps with waiting.
I have it on pretty much 8 hours a day while at work, and I´m really enjoying it here during the cold norwegian winter. It remains to be seen what will happen during the summer, but by then I will be at around 8 months of growth, so we will see how my fro will look like ;)
I for got to tell you I really like the Superman shirt:)
Ted
Thanks Ted!
it´s real popular at my kindergarten! Kids love it!
Thanks for being a teacher! I love teachers because you can affect the students in such a big way! Very good and unfortunately, under appreciated profession. Please keep up your good work, sir! By the way, I never had any cool teachers with tats or long hair! Ifeel like I missed out!
Ted
Thank you, buddy! :)
Besides liking the way I look and liking being myself, I actually take it as part of my job in setting an example for kids at young ages that people come in different sizes, colors, and appearances. That men CAN have long hair, that responsible, trustworthy people CAN have inked sleeves and stretched out lobes, that a pink t-shirt here or some black nailpolish there IS allright. open mindness, acceptance of the different and solidarity are important values I both teach and try to set an example for every day :)
Hey Raul,
This is a cool look! I got so used to wearing a bandanna back in the day that it never occurred to me to use a beanie! These are fun pictures and thanks for sharing them.
peace out,
rowie
Hey Rowie,
I never really managed pulling off the bandana look without looking like a parody of a pirate, you know what I mean? Maybe it´s because of the cold climate here in Scandinavia, but a mean seems alot more natural in a way, hehe. Besides, I really like the way it looks, and it works well for both in and outdoors.
As someone who lives up in the frozen winter headquarters in the north, I have to ask on what planet is that a beanie?
Around here we call that a hat. And being the middle of winter they are very common around here.
From the winter wonderland that is upstate New York.
Hi LHIA,
I see now that ´beanie´ is a term coined and mostly used in British english and the UK. Since Becks made it famous wolrdwide I know it´s been called that in the states as well, but a quick peak through wikipedia shows that in the states it´s known as a stocking cap, while your neighbours to the north refer to it as a tuque.
Here´s a link to show you some examples of this type of headcover, which is both extremely stylish, comfortable and conveniant in covering and restricting hair which is growing.
Beanie
In this part of the US of A this is what is referred to as a
Beanie:
Funny stuff how cultural slang affects different words, even within the English language itself. We sure would look funny walking around in those, hehe
When I think of Beanie I think of this:
MIT Hack
As a kid growing up in Canada I always associated the word "tuque" with a heavy wool hat that typically had a pom-pom on top. It was generally only worn outdoors.
In Britain, the "beanie" normally refers to a lighter wool (or synthetic wool) hat that doesn't have a pom-pom on top. It can be worn anywhere, both outdoors and indoors.
But maybe that's just my own perception. I've never heard the names "bobcap" or "stocking cap".

One of the big problems with this type of hat is it will get
uncomfortably warm in the hot summer months. Around here you
would not want to be wearing that type of hat when it is
98 degrees with a dew point of 76. (A dew point over 63 is
incomfortable, a dew point over 70 is oppresive, a dew point
over 75 is very oppresive.)
