Here's my 3 month hair journey update!
The waiting is really a killer sometimes, especially when thinking that last time I grew my hair long, I never really thought of it. No chance of doing that now, but at least I've got you guys' great support and updates to keep me inspired and dedicated :)
Not yet sure how to post several pics in one post, so this first one is my hair when dry, after having slept with it slicked back with tons of gel ;)
Not sure why while the picture is vertical on my iPhone, it gets uploaded as horizontal on the board.
Allright, so I have to turn them 45 degrees to the right even if they seem ok on my iPhone ;)
You do realize that on the iphone you can flip the photo from
Portrait to Landscape? (Vertical to horizonatal)
Hi LHIA,
Of course I do, though I took the pictures in portait mode, which shows nice and vertical on the iPhone, though not here when uploaded without being rotated. Either way, I have understood the trick to make it work :)
Btw, seeing as you are an iPhone user, do you have any advice for me regarding using an iPad or iPhone when browsing this wonderful board? Since both chrome and safari crash sort of often on both devices, I find it maddening that the posts that are read (purple) turn back to being unread (blue), which makes it really hard to keep track on what I have read and what not, sometimes.
Do you, or anyone else for that matter, have a solution for me? :)
Thanks btw!
Hi!
I don't have an Ipad, but my iphone is the 4s and i've never
had the browser crash. Both browsers work fine for me.
On my iphone the posts don't change color, but then I read this
site on the desktop with Firefox and on the desktop it does change color and keeps the color. I don't see any way to change that on the iphone. BTW, when I use chrome on the iphone
it does change color and keeps the color change. But Safari on the iphone does not. (Moral of the story: use chrome on the iphone.)
Hi LHIA,
I hear what you're saying, but I experience something different. While both safari and chrome freeze up and crash once in a while on both My iPhone and iPad, a knows issue with iOS browsers... Neither of them keeps the posts purple after a crash, so I have to re-click every single post every other day or so, or risking missing a comment ment to me in a conversation. Sure wish this greay place would get a more advanced and user friendly platform to operate on- and not all of them cost much, if at all :)
I never post pictures directly from my iphone so not sure what the positioning problem is.Always post pics from my laptop and use the positioning utility right underneath where you select the picture you want to include in your post.Either rotate right or left 90 degrees if your pic is sideways.Other than that your hair progress looks great!Cheers

Hi Mark!
Thanks for the comment! I think I have this whole picture from iPhone thing figured out now :)
Sexay Raul!
Hahaha, right? :D
;)
Hi Raul,
This is a great picture of you and your hair! I particularly like the the star tattoo. It reminds me of Texas-the Lone Star state. But the picture is great:)
Ted
I see you have black polish on your nails,I'm thinking seriously about doing nail polish. How long you had it, and what kind of reactions do you get??
Yeah, the black nail polish is really cool Raul:) You rock bud!
Ted
Go with whatever makes you happy, I always say :) thanks, bud!
Heya Steve!
I've been sporting the black nailpolish on and off since highschool, so for over 13 years now. As you can imagine, I get long looks and mixed reactions on it all the time! But that is part of the fun for me, you know? :)
From people assuming it means I am gay, to others assuming I worship satan to my very own 2-3 year olds at the kindergarten thinking I rock and showing up with nailpolish as well! :D It's all a great deal of fun for me.
As for me, personally... I was always inspired by Jeff Hardy (huge pro-wrestling fan as a kid, moved on to Mixed Martial Arts now), so in a way, the long hair, the black tunnels and black nailpolish all go well together in my book :)
Here's a pic taken right now before leaving for work :)
to my very own 2-3 year olds at the kindergarten thinking I rock and showing up with nailpolish as well!
Hi Raul,
Gotta love the kids for their unspoiled wonder and open mindedness! Once we become adults it seems we become less tolerant and lose our child wonder. Rock on, my friend!
Ted
Hair grows at an average rate of 1/2 inch per month. So you
can do the math the figure out how long it will take to reach your goal length.
Your hair is looking good, it will be well worth the wait.
Just be patient and it will come in time.
Hi LHIA,
Seeing as my goal length is right around shoulder blade length, if I am even going to stop then... and considering my hair is rather wavy and will curl up on the bottom, this will probably take at least a couple of years, if not longer. So yeah, each 1/2" is something to be happy about I guess :) Thanks for the compliment!
Yes, the waiting is hard! The old expression about a watched kettle never boiling. Still, it makes each milestone achieved that much more special. Monthly progress photos are great to be able to look back and see the noticeable changes.
As for posting multiple photos, the best way is to find a photo hosting site such as photobucket. Upload your photos there and then you can use the IMG codes and paste them into your post here. This enables you to post as many photos as you like in just one post.
Hi Jason!
It sure seems like there is no progress when inspecting ones hair every day, but thanks to your inspirational blogg, I do plan on at least documenting my growth each and every month, and maybe put on a little gallery after a while. God knows the GF already thinks I am too obsessed about my hair, and I don´t even have long hair yet, hehe.
Will make sure to do so next time around :)
Hi Raul,
Haha, from one hair obsessive to another, I can relate!
If you don't mind my asking, how does your girlfriend feel about you having long hair again?
Hi Jason,
Good to know I am in good company ;)
Well, at first she hated the idea. Then when I put my foot down and explained that this is important to me and that I am going through with this, she accepted the idea. What she was scared about was the change, it´s rather radical and she never knew me with long hair. But after having sat down and talked about it, I explained why this is important to me, and she accepts it and is rather positive now :)
How about you? I believe you met your wife back when you already had long hair, am I correct, buddy?
That's great that she is accepting and supportive of something that is important to you. It's very possible she will actually come to prefer you with long hair once the process is complete.
As for me, I was actually married before back when I was in the high control religion. I have always wanted long hair since I was a child but couldn't due to this. The woman I married was in the same religion and wasn't used to the idea of longhaired men. Even though she left the religion before I did, she never liked me with even longish hair so she wasn't keen on the fact I was growing it out. That was really only a minor issue between us though. I'm happy to say that we reestablished a connection after the divorce and we're good friends now.
I had one serious girlfriend after that who really liked my long hair.
You're right about my current (and final!) wife. I had long hair when we met and that was one of the things that attracted her to me. She's never once even expressed a curiosity about what I'd look like if I had ever had short hair again. She even helps me take hair pictures occasionally though my tripod is a great tool for that. It never runs out of patience!
Sounds great, Jason! You are a lucky guy, as am I ;)
Though I do try to keep the hair talk to the minimum, as I know she doesn´t neccessarily see it as a very manly topic of conversation, hehe.
Tripod, you say? Hmm... ;)
Far from being negative about my long hair, one of the main reasons my current g/f gave as being attracted to me initially was BECAUSE of my long hair! She has this "thing" about dudes with long hair. All her pin-ups had it when she was a teenager and she still has an addiction to it!
When I asked her to trim my hair for job interviews back in November, she was even more upset than I was when she inadvertently cut too much off.
There's a scary side: her former b/f had long hair and she dumped him after he cut it. I think the reasons for the split were somewhat deeper than that but I get the feeling it was definitely a contributing factor! (gulp!)

Yes as the old expression goes "a watched kettle never boils" you'll drive yourself crazy watching your hair grow every day.
(Your hair grows at 1/2 inch per month, you'll driver yourself
crazy trying to watch that growth.
The best way to do it go ahead with your normal hair care routine,
being very careful to avoid tangles, damage to your hair, etc.
Then a few moths down the road look closely at your hair and
you'll notice how much it's grown since the last time you took
a close look.
That happened to me today. About 11 months ago I had to have
eight inches of hair removed doe to damage to the hair. Well today I was looking at it closely and noticed how much it has
grown since I last looked at it closely.
When it comes to hair growth patience is your friend.
So pack lots of patience and strive to avoid damage to your
hair.
Check them curls out! Hehe.
Love the look Raul! But my neck is sore looking at you! :p John
Hi John!
Thanks bro, and sorry- I know i screwed up with the picture :P
nice!!!
i can never have that curls!!! :S
;P
Try braiding your hair after washing it, If its long enouh!
I guess the grass is always greener on the other side ;)
Hi Raul,
You better watch out buddy! Those curls might disappear when you least expect it! This picture is awesome and you look really cool!:) Great hair buddy!
Ted
Hi buddy!
I really douby them curls will dissapear completely one day, but I do have hope that the longer my hair gets and the more weight it gains, the less curl it will have. Though I do believe the bottom curl will always be there. It will then simply be a function of keeping it at around mid-back length, if I can even get that long, to make it look almost straight :)
Hey Raul,
Your curls may not disappear, but it would be nice if they stay at the bottom when it gets longer. It's nice to have the best of both worlds. That's the fun about this whole thing. I love trying different products and seeing what happens with my hair. What works on one person does a totally different thing on another person. By the way, I hope your Estonia excursion was a blast!
Ted
Hi Ted,
Definitely true, though we might think we have simmiliar types of hair, our DNA surely says otherwise, and each product affects out hair in a different way. Still using both the Nisim FAST and Aussie produts for the time being, and at leats for the Aussie ones, I absolutely LOVE the softness it gives my hair after conditioning! :)
The trip to Estonia was awesome! Really a different part of the world than what I am used to seeing... still somewhat part of the old communist USSR I remember from my childhood in Romania, but at the same time, really cozy with nice and friendly people and alot of interesting culture :)
If you´re not on facebook, I suggest you take 10 mins off surfing for stamps, and registring, then adding me as a friend (Raul Lenesin Taylor) and checking out the pictures from the trip yourself, bud! ;)
Hi Raul,
I am on Facebook, but don't really post much there. I sent you a friend request just now. I am on Facebook as Ted Sorge.
Ted
You are doing really great Raul and just kind of go with the flow. Your hair WILL eventually reach the length you aspire to.
I never knew how to post several photos in one posting either and still don't. But, here you are turned right side up and I hope this helps.
All the best-
Justin~
Hi Justin,
Thank you for fixing the post for me, and a much bigger thank you for being the inspiring person that you are, and having had a huge say in me deciding on growing out my hair! I still re-watch your videos to this day, and i have seen them quite a few times already! :)
Wow Raul Your hair is looking great, very nice it is getting to a nice length. Tom (Hairboy)
Thanks a bunch, Tom! :)
Hi Raul,
Thanks for the nice update! Your hair is coming along wonderfully! Befor you know it, you will be at shoulder length. Please keep us updated! Have a great week my friend!
Ted
Hi Ted,
By the time I will be at shoulder length, as in around late 2014, you will already be way down towards the middle of your back.. ain´t that a good thought to keep you going? :)
Thanks a lot, buddy! It´s slow a hell, but I can already tell I have a lot more hair on my head than what I had back in november! hehe
Hi Raul,
Yeah hopefully I won't get the urge to thin out my mop! I am already driving my wife crazy with this stuff! She thinks I'm crazy! But she thinks it's cool that I'm growing it out. She told me I would regret cutting when I did-she was right. But this time I hope to reach mid-back length dammit!
On a side note I wanted to tell you that I had read on the Long Hair Community about Pantene products helping to straighten members' hair. Some of them reported straightening and some reported their hair getting wavier/curlier. So I tried using Pantene conditioner the other day and noticed some straightening. I think I am going to start using Pantene products. I like the way it feels on my hair. Take care bud!
Ted
Hi Ted,
I think it´s funny you should mention calling your hair a mop, as I have also done that on many occasions :D A mop, wool, furr, candy cotton, afro and so on... not always easy having wavy hair with tons of volume, as you very well know ;)
Have´t used the Pantene sereis myself, but I will be definitely looking into it. I have, however, used the KMS California series for a while back in the day (the purple one, which is meant to give a straighter hair pattern), and I thought it did a rather decent job in straightening my curls. Of course, back then, the straightening hot iron was something I used daily, but will try to keep to a bare minimum this time around :)
Hi Raul,
I have never heard of the KMS brand of products. The Pantene brand of products seems to work well on my hair. I tried the Aussie conditioner but it just turned my hair into a big poof ball. Also, whenever I use the clarifying shampoo, my hair seems to be lighter and a little straighter. So I am still trying to come up with the perfect combination of products to use. I suspect as my hair gets longer I will need a whole different set of products. However, I am trying to keep it as simple as I can.
Please don't use that hot iron on your hair anymore. I just don't think those are very good for the hair. There's a girl that works at my dialysis clinic that flat irons her hair every day. She told me she paid $200.00 for her flat iron. Granted, her hair does look nice. But I still don't think it's doing her hair any good. Long live the volume and poofiness my friend!
Ted
Thanks for sharing these great updates, as well as the inspirational photos from the past, Raul. We're on our way back to true longhairdom, my friend!

Hell yeah, buddy! One half of an inch at a time! =)
