Here is what my hair looks like after washing with cheap shampoo and conditioning with Pantene conditioner.
Here is the front view:

What are you defining as "cheap shampoo?"
I would mention that the "cheap" store brand shampoo is in many
cases the same shampoo as the name brand, you're just not paying
for the name brand.
So often you're not getting a cheap shampoo, you're saving money
by not using the brand name product. It's the same product made in the same factory it just goes into a bottle that has the store
name instead of the fancy designer name.

I usually use the matching VO5 shampoo and condtioner which costs about 97 cents a bottle. However, I don't always use shampoo. Sometimes I just use conditioner. Because I think the conditioner part is more important, I am considering using cheap shampoo with a more expensive conditioner. I believe as a person's hair gets longer the conditioning gets even more important. I believe you are correct on your points, though.

You should not have a problem finding Organix brand shampoos and conditioners as I've seen them just about everywhere.I actually bought mine at a local supermarket but I know places such as Walgreens has it too.If you try them let me know what you think:)Cheers

in my own personal experience with products i found 2 to work best in the summer and the winter
Tresemme luxirious moisture/ moisture control shampooo and cond.
they work wonders with the hair and really give the ends of your hair moisture so it never gets frizzy in the summer and never gets dry in the winter, i think if you started using it on your current hair growth the results will be nothing less than awesome :D

I will look for those products. I have tried Tresemme before, but cannot remember how it worked. Hi Ted,
Your hair really does look excellent here, thick, with lots of shine. I did use Pantene conditioner a few years back, and even though the my hair did look good with it, I did find it a little "heavy" for my hair, and it had a bit of a "sticky" or "crunchy" feel, and I was concerned about breakage as well. I know it works better for some people than for others.

No offence intended Ted, but it looks identical to the last pictures of the back of your hair. Maybe after a month or so..
