Hi guys,
I've been growing my hair for about two years now, possibly three. I've never really marked the day or month of when I started.
So I have my hair at this length and I like the feel of it but for some reason I'm just not enjoying it as much as I used to.
I sometimes think, maybe it's because I've become accustomed to it. Or perhaps it's long enough that I don't notice the growth as much as I used to before.
My goal used to be shoulder length. Now I just let it grow without any goals in mind. But I should still be proud shouldn't I?
Help me out guys. What's broken here?
Hi Shydowyn,
Wow! I just cannot imagine you not enjoying your hair anymore! Heck, I don't even have your hair and I'm enjoying it(or at least looking at the photo of it)! Your hair looks fantabulous my friend!
I am not sure anything is broken here. But I will tell you what I will do should this happen to me. If I was in your situation, I would go to a trusted friend or hair expert. I would ask them to maybe cut it blunt straight across on the bottom. Then I would ask them to wash and condition it with good quality products. Only let them take off what you want.
For example, when my hair gets long enough, I am going to probably have it shortened to bangs in the front only. Some thing like this, but longer. This is Tom Scholz from the band Boston. I really like this style. Of course, I may change my mind before I get the length I want. Hope this helps.
Ted
maybe, as you said, it is not new anymore. however, before you do anything more than a maintenance trim, remember how long it took you to get your hair this long, and, as yourself, do you want to wait for that length of time again?
Hi Shydown!
Let me begin by saying I think your hair looks absolutely GREAT, and that you have a really good head of hair there! :)
Now, if you´re really not feeling it anymore, and are not excited about the thought of new hairstyles at longer lengths, I would suggest you give it a couple of weeks of thinking, and contemplate a new style,,, whether a color change, or even a length change... you could try dying it black, or have it at shoulder length perhaps?
All up to you, but whatever you choose to do, remember that it only takes a few seconds to change something, but getting it back to this great, long and natural state will take years. Think about consequnces, my friend :)
Good luck!
Just to give you some perspective... This is my hair right now, and I would give
A LOT to have your length! :)
Keep LHIA's advice in mind and think about it for a couple of weeks before taking any drastic measures.
Thanks for the complement bru! COuld never go short again. I'm thinking shoulder length suits me best though. Still mulling it over.
How many months have you got there?
Shoulder length would look great on you, but so does your current length. Its all up to you, bro! :)
Me? I've got a measly 3 months here, but I love and cherish each and every cm of it ;)
Hi Raul,
This is a great photo of you Raul! I must say you look photogenic to me! Keep up the awesome work my friend!
Ted
Because you've had longhair for a while now it's probably normal for you and you don't notice like you've used to. You became accustomed to your hair.
It could be that it's to long, you said your goal was shoulder length. You could trim a decent amount, but before doing anything drastic think about it very carefully.
It will take a long time before it's back to the length it is now.
Before you trim anything carefully follow the two week rule.
What's the two week rule?
Also, nothing made me appreciate my long hair quite so much as cutting it off. I learned really quickly that I preferred having it long. So I would go with what others are saying, trim it, just a bit, and see what you think.
Hi Steve!
The two week rule reffers to when the thought of getting long hair cut off, or cut short, to give the thought 2 weeks of consideration, and if after thoes two weeks the wish is still the same, go for it and do it.
Naturally, it has to do with not being impulsive with something that takes so much patience and such a lont time to achieve, as I am sure you know :)
Maybe it is too long. I think I'll play around with wearing it in a few new ways first to help me decide if I should go back to shoulder length or not.
i have no idea what is wrong, but I will say I started growing my hair long in 1964, and today in 2013 I enjoy having long hair
just as much as I did all those years ago. After 49 years of having long hair i'm enojoying my hair just as much as I did in the 1960s. The hair is a part of me, cutting off the hair would be like cutting off my left arm, or cutting off a foot.
Maybe it's just that you need to change things up, instead of
always wearing it down put it in a pony tail, put it in pigtails,
braid it, put it in a bun.
Oh I definitely couldn't cut it short again. Not at all. Ever. At the very most shoulder length but I think you're right about finding new ways to wear it. I've just been going with a pony tail or braid for convenience and then leaving it all day without another thought. Might need to get back in touch with my inner long hair.
Hi again Shydowyn,
I just want to say that I really think your hair looks awesome! I definitely agree with everyone's opinions here. Please don't cut your hair and please keep enjoying it! You look just awesome with your hair long like this! Have a great weekend my friend and thanks a bunch for the update and inspiration! Whew!
Ted
Thanks hey,I won't get it cut short. I couldn't do that. I just want to have that proud feeling of having long hair that I've seemed to have lost. Perhaps I need to find some new ways to wear it So I can point at it and say "Yeah, I did that."
Maybe some war braids or something lol.
Hi Shydowyn,
I am happy to hear you won't get it cut short! I was wondering if your hair is naturally straight or wavy. Are those waves in your hair from braiding it? Either way, it looks great!
Ted
Those waves are from when I had it braided for work. But my hair is naturally wavy. The longer it gets though, the less the waves show under it's own weight. I wish it was really curly though!
Hi Shydowyn,
Nevertheless, I really love your hair and your total look! Please keep it growing my friend! Great week to you!
Ted
We all go through these phases of enjoying our hair more or less...if the blahs strike, it is probably time to spice things up a bit...as others have suggested, different styles or hairtoys...or heck, just don't worry about it and go on with your life...it will probably catch your interest in a bit anyway.
Been there, done that, didn't cut it.
