Figured I would make an update with you guys since it's been forever. It just seemed like for the longest time there's been almost no growth and the texture doesn't make it look any longer. To give you a good idea at least, I started at about an inch or so and as of now it's 7 - 7 1/2 inches so I guess I'm right on the clock. Unfortunately the hair I have makes it seems like the awkward stage lasts months on end but it's been looking like it'll start weighing itself.
On that note, makes me glad to see new people are still coming in, whesther temporarily or in it for the long haul and it's pretty neat to have Ian come back albeit taking an alternate route. Gotta give shout-outs to Ted and Raul especially for their contributions to improvin' the site, God knws what I've been doing.
To the newer members who don't know me I basically came here to get some further inspiration. As you can tell by the shirt I'm a bit of a metalhead and it helps out with the growing process. Long story short though women can make you do the craziest things and frankly makes me wish I would've lost my hair in a bet. Hopefully I don't come off the wrong way, it's just hard to tell text you know? I hope so far you guys have been enjying the site so far and stay to keep the place going.
That being said, I know Justin desn't really frequent the site as much as he used to especially concerning the eventer being transpired. Hopefully he'll be on here so I can personally thank him for helping me with his videos. Now that I've a little experience under my belt I know what to expect.
Well, that's just about what I can think to say so I hope I can squeeze myself back here without any issues.
Hi Andy,
Many thanks for the shout out! I really am liking the way your hair is progressing! That is great progress from 1"! I do understand what you mean by the texture not making it look any longer. It seems like my hair is just sitting there right above my shoulders. It just doesn't want to go any further. So I am just trying to ignore it and let it grow. Patience my friend and you shall be rewarded!
Yes, women are interesting creatures. I have heard you can't live with them and you can't live without them. That's all i am going to say. Hehe.
Justin is a very inspiring guy with his awesome videos. I personally look forward to seeing him with very long hair again. I have been inspired greatly by everyone on the MLHH. I thank you all for that.
I hope you have a wonderful week my friend! Please keep growing the awesome mane! You will be rewarded by your patience!
Ted
Thanks for stopping in.....your hair is coming along fine...those of us with curls have to be even more patient going through the awkward stage.
Sounds like you have grasped the true "community" nature of the MLHH. Fantastic.
Thanks for Sharing

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the shout out, definitely a great community here which inspires one to post often and share the love :)
Your hair is looking great, and I am definitely going to be finding myself in the same situation as yourself, seeing as us with curly/wavy hair have a few more months/years extra to enjoy the awkward stage! YAY :P
Keep on growing, bro.. and drop by more often! :)
I think the overall image can play a huge role in whether people accept long hair on a guy or not. And I suspect that's because most people tend to stereotype, even subconsciously. Most people feel more comfortable if they can put others into pigeon-holes and more uneasy if they are faced by an apparently random phenomenon that they cannot readily categorise.
I tend to wear things like a biker jacket with a band T-shirt and skinny jeans. People seldom comment on my hair - probably because with my image it would almost be stranger if I did NOT have long hair. To most observers, I fall into a comfortable stereotype.
The irony is that I'm not all that keen on metal and am much happier with industrial music. But of course the observers don't realise that. All that matters to them is that they think they have put me in a pigeon-hole and it makes their life simpler and more comfortable. :)
I imagine men with long hair who dress more conventionally are more likely to be challenged by other people because they are more difficult to classify as a specific stereotype.
Your hair looks like it'll soon get to the stage where the extra weight will tame it a bit - but not to worry: it already looks awesome!

Hi Damon,
You make some excellent points. However, I will still not accept peoples' intolerance and ignorance when it comes to long hair.
Ted
I totally agree with you, Ted. My observations on how society reacts to long hair on men are meant with a wry smile. ;)

I just like to kinda live the stereotype and all, and it makes me smile when I get to see someone's reaction when I tell them I'm studying in a networking program. It's a good thing the IT industry for the most part are pretty flexible about trivial things, couldn't imagine what it would be like if they were as firm as marketing or anything to do with constant media interaction. That being said I love being a social butterfly!
To me it's like wearing my true colors in a sense. Yeah I listen to that particular style and the people who can't take me at face value lose the choice to talk to someone who's potentially really easy to talk with. Of course I'm going to be labelled as a "hippy" or a "druggie" or especially the ever so popular "you look like a girl" comment and its variations but it really doesn't bother me unless they do something that starts to violate my personal space or right.
One of these days I'm going to put on a suit and tie and see what kind of reactions I'll get!
Yup, I've had all those too. But like you, they don't really bother me. Most people I know using those phrases are only kidding anyway but if they're serious, then I generally take the same attitude as you: if those people can't be bothered to know what I'm really like it's their loss.
Haha! Go for it! If you're like me, you'll love stirring the pot and watching the reactions. It's all part of the fun of daring to be individual and challenging boring conventions! :)

That phrase is geting so old now.
As I keep mentioning most of the women I see now have hair that is
much shorter than mine. As I venture around the area here in Albany I find that most of the women have hair that is shorter than mine. That may have been true years ago but the last time
i got that comment was in the 80s. Once we entered the 90s and
the 2000s women did what they wanted to do with their hair and
for many of them that meant shorter lengths.
BTW, I do look like a hippy and i'm proud of it.
Thrasher Andy, you are doing very well with your journey to longhairdom so don't fret it that your hair isn't super long at this juncture. With the texture that you have it does take a little longer but you'll get there my friend as long as you endure:)It has been great with the new influx of aspiring longhairs as it keeps us all young so to speak!lol.Certainly don't want to get stale with no new longhairs joining the fold.Anyway great update and do stop by more often:)Cheers

Your hair is looking awesome, Andy. Thanks for stopping by and giving us an update... don't be a stranger! :)

Happy hair-iversary, Andy! Your hair is looking very good, and as a fellow metalhead, I'm pleased to inform you that it has reached the minimum length necessary for proper headbanging.
Rock on, you crazy diamond!

Man, you have no idea how good it feels to have this pseudo-mane back. The fact I can properly headbang and feel it growing down my back gives me relief and suspense for the next few months. It's going to be a while before I am able to windmill it although I've never really had the want to. I'm hopin' to look like the next James Hetfield!
