Here are some pictures taken earlier today at work, thus the kindergarten teacher clothes ;)
My hair has been slicked back with gel a couple of days ago, and I like the way it looks the day after much better, as the wet hair look dissapeares, and the entire texture of my hair becomes different. More straight and heavier, if that makes any sence.
It's still not much, but it's starting to feel like something, and it's all mine! =)
Trying again, silly iPhone...
Hmm... hanging upside-down from the ceiling to make your hair appear longer seems a bit desperate--LOL :)
You've made excellent progress in just 4 months... keep it up, and keep us updated!
--Val
Hey Val,
Yeah, I´m a sneaky bastard like that.. will do anything to get my hair growing faster, hehe.
I guess I am doing quite fine with the growth rate. Been taking Silica + Multi B vitamins since day 1 of growing it out, and also used the Nisim FAST shampoo and Conditioner for a month, before realizing it made my dry scalp problem much worse and went back to the Head & Shoulders shapoo and Aussie conditioner combo. Been also massaging my scalp daily, and even if that doesn´t really help, it sure feels sublime! :P
Aha! I knew those reviews about Nisim FAST sent up the red flag and proved it was a snake oil treatment! That's exactly what others said about that product so you really confirmed it Raul.Oh well at least your hair didn't fall out but as the saying goes...let the buyer beware.
BTW, your pic looks great but I was getting dizzy trying to upright that shot on my iphone as it kept going back to upside down!LOL.Cheers
Mârk
Heya Mark!
Though I still don´t have concrete proof, all I know is that I´ve always had a rather dry scalp as well as dry hair, and whether my hair actually got more nourishing and grew faster or not, my scalp started getting flakey and that´s a no no in my book. Thank god I didn´t lose my hair, would suck having to start from scratch again! :P
As for the flipping and the iphone, I know exactly what you mean, as I experienced the same thing after uploading it. What really puzzles me, is the fact that I THOUGH I have gotten this all figured out by now, and that when uploading a pic taken directly from the iphone, I need to choose "Rotate counterclockwise 90 degrees", and it would upload correctly, even if the picture was actually taken nice and vertical originally (portrait mode). Well, not this time around. This board sure does kick my ass sometimes with the pics, maybe I should start emailing the iphone pics to myself, downloading them on my desktop and uploading from there.
Either way, thanks for the comment and kind words, bud! :)

Hi Raul,
This is exactly how I post pics to the board.I've never posted pics directly from my iphone but instead e mail the pics to myself so I can post them from my laptop.I guess the only downfall of that is if you are out and about and take a pic you feel would be nice to post immediately instead of later on when you get home.I did read Bill's comments above about taking cell phone pics and making sure they post upright.Anyway sorry to hear the mlhh is causing you to "pull out your hair" because of the picture issue Raul.Of course I didn't mean that in the literal sense my friend;) LOL Cheers

;)
I also used to like the aftereffects of gel. Once it had sealed itself and then dried, I used to put a brush through it and it would pretty much stay in place without looking like a helmet on my head.
You really have such quality hair to grow. Haha, it shouldn't be allowed for you to have it short! :)
Just curious, have you told anyone at your teaching job of your plans? I didn't tell anyone ahead of time at my work. I got the occasional inquiry about its length and then I would tell that person my plans.
Heya Jason!
I know exactly what you mean. After brushing the hair with the gel in it, it gets really nice and tidy, and one doesn´t look like a mobster with a helm slicked on... or the way one of my friends so poeticly describes it: as you´ve been licked by a cow... hehehe.
Not sure about the quality of my hair, and am definitely not liking the fact that I´ve got quite some gray in it, as well as fears of my hairline not being completely symmetric (I got a feeling the left side is a bit higher than the left), but it´s the hair I´ve got, and wavy or not, it´s going to be loooong! That much I am sure of! :)
As for my employers and colleagues, I have definitely mentioned it, and gotten a shocked respose of "noooo, don´t do that", but nothing more than personal prefference and taste. It´s really rather liberal and open here in north-western Europe when it comes to personal appearance, and modded people (stretched ears, tattoos and so on) and long hairs have no problem working pretty much everywhere :)
Thanks for the kind words, buddy! You are still an inspiration to me :)
You know, I never tried growing my hair while upside down. It HAS to be crazy enough to work...right!?
Joking aside, you've been coming along pretty well with your updates man, it's nice to see teaching professions become a bit more lenient in regards to looks and such. I'm guessing you want to become a full-fledged gradeschool teacher or something like that?
Hope the next few months are nice to your hair man!
Hi Andy!
As I said to Jason, I will try anything in order to get my hair back to it´s former glory, and much longer and healthier this time around, hehe.
Thanks for the compliments, I am trying my best to supply it with the best care I can while growing it, even if month 4 is nothing more than the very beginning. Heck, even last year this time was I at a longer stage, right before I got frustrated by the curls and got it cut in the asymmetrical hairstyle I´ve been sporting for the last few years again.
As for my career, I have actually completely 2 of the 4 years of getting my bachelor in Preschool teaching, a different one than gradeschool teaching here in Norway. Due to moving around the country so much in the last few years, I never got to complete it, but I am enjoying my work as it is, even if the pay raise would be significant. Deinitely on my to do list :)
or should it be "floating?" LOL Well, here you go Raul with the photo and I think that your hair is looking fabulous right now. Applause! And yes, I agree. The second day is always better than the first day after the wash routine. Congratulations and just let all continue to grow. :-)
Justin~
Hi Justin!
More like this board and it´s compatibility (or lack of) with iphone browsing and uploading pics, are kicking my ass! ;) Thanks for the flipping though! :)
Thanks for the kind words! it´s still about 10-20´´ too short, but hey, I´ve got all the time in the world, and I know it´s gonna´ get a lot messier before it gets any better, hehehe.
Hope all is well with you, my friend!
Hi Raul,
I must say your hair looks very thick and healthy to me. I just know it will look very good when it gets longer. Instead of gel, last time I grew my hair I used hair tonic. It stays flexible yet the hair stays in place and doesn't look too wet. This time I haven't been using anything. I have just been combing it back often.
I find that my hair is more flyaway and even somewhat straighter on wash days. This is more than likely due to using sulfate containing shampoo and silicone containing conditioner. I also find that when I use anything which is supposed to moisturize the hair, my hair shows more waviness. In other words, moisturizing=waviness. Not sure how this will work out with added length though.
Keep up the great work with your hair and you will be glad you did. I sure wish I had a cool teacher like you when I was younger:) You rock my friend! Take care!
Ted
Heya Ted!
Thanks for the kind comments, as usual! :) It´s an interesting theory you have there, and one that makes me wonder, what is the desired amount of moisturizing in comparison to achieving the least amount of waviness and curl. Even if much straighter, completely dried out hair is not a good solution either.
I remember back when having long hair, one of my all time favorite products being the KPAK Deep Moisturizing Mask, a procedure I used once a week, leaving it in after a wash during the night. It used to make my long hair feel TONS softer and more managable, and is definitely a product I am going to get into again once I get some length, despite it being extremely expensive here in Norway.
I would love to do your routine, and sometimes do try it, by not doing anything else other than combing back my hair after a wash, but at this stage it´s simply too short, and I end up with that lovely "mop head" look where the top of my head is all round and puffy... imagine a mushroom if you will :P I absolutely have to use some gel the next day, or at least hide it all under a beanie or a ballcap when going to work, hehe.
In a year or two, Ted, we´ll forget all about these minor problems while growing it out, and enjoy long, healthy and rather wavy hair, which I believe is going to look completely awesome! Keep on playing the waiting game, bro... and no cutting or trimming, you hear me?! ;)
Here´s a picture taken last July back when I was visiting my family in Israel. Going hand in hand with my baby sister down the street :) Back then I was also trying to grow my hair out, but constantly trimmed the back of my head to allow the hair on top and sides grow at the same speed and rate as the one in the back. Neater look, but not someting I am going to do this time around.
Gonna´ keep rocking that mullet until I can do a high half-ponytail, and not even think about scissors until I have reached shoulderblade length! hope you do the same, I think it will be that much more rewarding seeing the hair grow the way it wants to, completely natural :)
Hi raul,
You are off to an excellent start, and you have great hair to work with, since you have sucg good thickness. I look forward to following your future progress.
Keep it growing,
David
Hi David,
Thank you, appreciate your comment! Lets hope all this thickness actually works in my favor in the long run, heh.
Repeating the explanation given in a thread below, since the subject of the message didn't reveal the real subject and may have caused some of you to miss it....
All cameras have an "up" and a "down". This is less obvious on a cellphone camera than on a standard camera, but it is still so. If you look at pictures from old cameras that were gotten as prints, you can just rotate the prints in your hand, so you don't think about it much. Also, if you look at pictures on your cellphone, you can just turn the cellphone in your hand.
Further complicating the matter is a newer encoding in digital pictures known as EXIF data. If the camera has a gravity sensor in it, it will encode which side is up into the picture. Some cellphones and computers will read this code and rotate pictures for you. This will fool you into thinking you had the camera right side up when you took the picture. Apple computers are more apt to do this than those of other companies.
This rotation will NOT happen when pictures are in a web page, like the ones you see on MLHH. After all, web pages contain text, and maybe even other pictures, and the web page if it can be rotated at all would all be rotated together.
The best tack when taking pictures for the Internet is to always take your pictures in "landscape" (wider than tall) orientation with the top of the camera facing up. Then they will always come out right side up. If you don't know which side is up on your cellphone, you can experiment to find out which side is. Mark one edge as "up" and the next time you take a picture for the hyperboard if it gets on line upside down, relabel the opposite edge of your phone as "up".
The "rotate photo" option offered when you post can be used if you took a picture in "portrait" orientation (taller than wide) AND if you noticed which way you rotated the camera when you took the picture. Or if you know the way your computer shows the picture is unrotated by EXIF data. That feature was included before use of EXIF data became common, and it was intended to accommodate photos taken in portrait orientation. Thus, 180 degree rotation is not offered and the feature can't be used to correct photos that were taken upside down.

After seeing all the problems guys have with pictures coming
out upside down/sideways/way too big/etc. is it possible when
someone posts a photo to show them a "preview" screen with the option to adjust the photo before it posts to the board?
One thing i would mention when you do post photos is to make sure
you turn off geographic information on your phone. A number of
cell phones when you take a photo imbeds things like the location the photo was taken. So when you post a photo you also may be
revealing your home address.
Hi LHIA,
I agree there! If the little preview pic here would change as we choose different "rotate this and that" options, all the mess with wrongly turned pics would be solved! Not sure how easy or hard that is to make happen, but it sure would be great!
The problem with this is that it would require two operations, and this can greatly complicate the process of posting. You'd have to send the picture to MLHH, the MLHH server would have to show it back to you, and then the second operation would be that you'd have to tell MLHH how to rotate it. Your tech guy could probably program this in, but it may not be compatible with everyone's web browser and some need of authentication of each posting would be required, and this may involve logging in or something similar. This complexity is the same reason MLHH has not allowed people to make a post and then preview it before posting.
Another option would be to add a button with the "rotate" options to use EXIF data and rotate accordingly. There are modules in the cpan library for that, and I've played with them for my own use, but they are a bit dicey. Every camera or other image creation means has its own flavor of encoding, and new cameras are coming out all the time.
When you get into this level of complexity, compatibility with the web host's server also becomes an issue. What works today may not work tomorrow. So it takes more birddogging by the tech crew.
Yes, indeed. This is how the McAfee guy who was hiding from the police got caught. He allowed a picture of himself with a non-descript background to be taken to taunt them, but the GPS info the camera put in the photo's EXIF file nailed him.
Bill
Thanks for the lengthy and detailed answer, Bill!
The way I usually take pics with my iPhone, it's always in the "natural" position of the phone, which means in portait mode without turning it upside down, using the lower res, inwards front camera.
Either way, I will take Mark's suggestion and simply ALWAYS mail the pics to myself, then post them from here on my Desktop, much safer bet :)
As I recall reading, the iPhone's "top" when taking pictures is one of the long edges. The article said this confused a lot of iPhone users, and that Apple's logic in designing the camera that way was because most cameras are designed with landscape photos being the norm, which means the top is a long side. The article went on to say that most iPhone users don't really hold the phone vertically when they talk on it, they just think they do.
Computer monitors have a "landscape shape" and thus landscape orientation works best on the web. If you take pictures in portrait orientation, more people will see them with the tops and bottoms cut off, plus more empty space on the side. Personally, I always take pictures for the web in landscape, and then if there is something along the edges that I don't want, I can always crop it out.
Bill
Raul,
Your hair is looking great. I like the slicked back look!
Keep on growing
Tony
Hey Growlur,
Thank you for your kind words, means a alot :)
The slicked back look is the only alternative I've got to the afro mop I usually get naturally, so it will have to do for now, hehe.
Man, I wish I knew how to walk on the ceiling. You've got to show me sometime...
All kidding aside, your hair is looking very nice! Much better than mine did four months ago, at any rate. Not to mention that stylish goatee! I believe it is a scientific fact that 99% of men looks better bearded. The other 1% live sad, beardless lives...
~Never stop growing, friends. Mind, body, and soul.~
-Septet
Hi Septet,
Man, I'm never going to hear the last of that upside down pic, am I now? :P
Thanks buddy... and I agree with you on the beard, eventhough I can only admire real beard growers such as yourself from afar... I love me some facial hair, but can never really seem to grow it long, as the mustache area really itches when it gets too long and messy.
Can't wait to see some new pictures of your glorious mane, brother! :)
Not all of us can grow the beard, unfortunately :( I love beards (and I'm a programmer after all :) ), and would like to try growing a beard, but I simply can't :(
I'm 20 years old and still have very thin, fair-colored (although my hair is also fair ) and soft beard and moustache. So I have to shave it off every week or two.
Damn, all my body is covered with thick hair, but got no facial one :( I'm not sure if it's simply too early for me to have it, or I'll never gonna have it :(
