Just a quick update as we approach the end of yet another week of successful hair growing. I'm happy to report that even being in the throes of the much-maligned "awkward stage" is perfectly enjoyable.
Cheers,
--Val
Hi Val,
I don't think you are going to have much of an awkward stage! Your hair looks perfect! I just can't wait until it gets longer.I really think you will like it. Happy Thor's Day to you as well. May you also have a long and enjoyable weekend as well!
Ted
Thanks, Ted. As much as this stage is "tolerable-to-kinda-fun," I too am really looking forward to my hair being truly long again.
Cheers,
Val
we should all look so bad in our awkward stage!wow..looking great there my man...as we said in my generation.."you got it goin' on"keep up the growth and we will keep up your inspiration...Gordy
ps..thanks for the birthday wishes a few posts back...hard to think i am 52 in years and like 35 in my head!!!
Haha... thanks, Gordy! Your kind words and inspirational mane are much-appreciated.

P.S.-- Age is just a number, and still a relatively low number, in your case; youth is a state of mind :)
Hey Val, your hair + beard looks fantastic!I'm a bit envious that your beard still matches your hair colour as I only get that when it receives the same henna treatment my hair gets;)lol.Regardless you are making fine progress and will make an outstanding longhair in the future:)Cheers
Mârk
Thanks, Mârk... though the only reason I can say that my beard matches my hair is that they are BOTH getting plenty of silver streaks! I affectionately blame my kids, and wear my silver with pride :)
Have a good weekend, my friend!

My hair had this odd habit of going from really good looking to what I think is lackluster and sometimes it'll look as good as yours is now! It's a weird cycle that happens every 2-3 weeks also depending on how I sleep and how tossed arouund it gets what with it being flung about so much.
Are you planning to grow out the beard as well?
I know what you mean! It's interesting to observe the many "moods" hair can have, and the way it seems to cycle through various phases of body, texture, the way it lays on the head, etc.
As for facial hair, I like to keep a nicely trimmed beard or van dyke, and occassionally trim it down to a "rugged stubble," but really don't have any plans to grow it to an extreme length.
Take care :)

Hi Val,
Your hair is coming along very well indeed, and is thick and in good condition. Cheers and good luck on your future progress!
Keep it growing,
David
Hello David,
Thanks for the kind words of encouragement... have a good weekend!

I can feel your enthusiasm about your journey! That excitement and anticipation is the best feeling.
I notice a nice difference from your avatar and while it might not work for everyone, it's fantastic how you're weathering the awkward stage without using product in your hair. It's a great look for you.
Thanks, Jason. Yes, the enthusiasm is certainly here, combined with what feels like a sort of "quiet determination." I also noticed a discernable difference between my current hair length and that of my recently updated avatar... it's cool to be able to notice a change in such a short period of time!
I must admit to sometimes being tempted to use a bit of gel or hairspray from time to time, but I've learned that my hair looks and feels best when simply washed, conditioned, brushed, and left to decide what it wants to do on its own. It's been pretty windy here lately, so I have taken to carrying a small hairbrush with me everywhere I go, though. Once I've gained another inch or so, I might experiment with some subtle ways to use a small amount of product to keep the fringe out of my eyes (maybe mousse?), until it's long enough to tuck behind my ears. Of course, when I'm not at work, I'm having fun once again rocking the bandanas!
Hope you and your family have a great weekend, bro... is the weather going to cooperate and let you do some cycling?
--Val
Haha, the weather hasn't been especially cooperative since the beginning of February but I ride anyway. I'm pining for the day when I don't have to wear three layers and spend 20 minutes cleaning my bike afterwards! It will also be nice to ride on roads when the sand has been removed and I can take corners faster.
I hope you and your family likewise enjoy the weekend!
Great photo, Val!

Rock on, Val. Good to see you posting. :) Hope all has been well my friend.
Back at ya, brother. I look forward to hearing more about what your next adventure has in store for you.

Val,
Cool hair! Goes really well with the beard. Lookin' good!
Tony
Thanks, Tony :) I do prefer to keep a short beard... and my few attempts to go clean-shaven in recent years have been met with strong opposition from my wife and kids. They couldn't wait for last Halloween's "Gomez Addams" face to go away!
Cheers,
Val
Heya Val!
Hair is looking outstanding, buddy! I really like way your hair has just the tiniest touch of wave to it, nothing as crazy as mine... looks really good, and I am a bit envious of how you can wear it without any product in it (I think?) and still rock it like a rockstar! Hehe.
Hi Raul,
Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, it's starting to get some waves now. You can't see the back in any of these pics, but it's quite a bit curlier than the top and front. When my hair gets longer (at about the 10-12 month mark), it starts forming into ringlets on the ends.
You're right in that I'm not using any styling products at this point. Just wash, condition, towel dry, brush it out, and let it do its thing. Once it gains another inch or so, I'll likely experiment with using a SMALL amount of product to help keep the fringe out of my eyes, until it's long enough to tuck back behind my ears.
It's cool to see how quickly your own hair is growing out... you've got great hair to work with! Have a great weekend, my friend!
--Val
You should never dare to cut your hair again, Val... You look like a manga character! Great looks!!!
Haha... thanks, Walter! I don't know about "never," but I would like to maintain it at least around midback length :)
