Happy Friday, everybody! =)
Here in Norway, we are heading towards the last workig day before we hit the long awaited easter vacation, which means 9 days off, and tons of time for one´s leisure and hobbies... how awesome is that? :)
I was recently feeling inspired by a colleague at work with a great beard, to actually do something I´ve never done before, and *try* to grow out a decent full beard myself. Now, this is in no way or form any sort of journey as my long hair journey, and I will probably only see how it looks and get back to shorter, trimmed facial hair after a few weeks or so, but for once, I feel like seeing what color / texture and how does it feel having a fully grown beard. Lumberjacks, here we come baby! :D
As for my hair, on the 27th it will reach it´s true 4 month anniversary, and I am rather pleased with the growth from the start, which was about an inch on top and half an inch on the sides and back. The curl is definitely starting to show on the sides and back, but it´s all good, since I know what to expect!
I will be leaving you here wit han updated picture from a few minutes ago, and wish you all a happy easter, whenever that may be in America, as well as the rest of the world... take good care of yourselves and the peopel you love! =)
Maybe now?
Experimenting with facial hair is fun. You should definitely try growing your beard a bit especially if you've never done so before.
I have no interest in growing a really long beard but I've enjoyed letting it get somewhat longer in winter and then much shorter and even shaved off in the summer. I've also tried the long goatee. The nice thing is that it's pretty easy to get to where you want to be with facial hair (excepting a long beard) unlike growing long head hair.
Alas, my beard has far much gray and white in it now than my head hair so I'm more inclined to keep it closely cut.
Heya Jason!
You've hit the nail on it's head, that is the exact thing that is interesting to me with facial hair.. and hair in general- experimenting with different looks, finding out how do things look and pass one self and finding my own style. Fun for life, and in the case of facial hair, it really can be shaved off and grow again rather quickly :) Fun stuff!
You guys both nailed it! Facial hair should be fun! I change mine frequently usually shifting between a longer goatee and moustsche clean shaven and a full beard. Typically I have a preference for the longish goatee which is whet I'm wearing now. Over the summer ive thought about keeping some nice stubble going. My beard has a good deal of grey at 44 but I like it!!! Matches my wife's silvering hair!!!
Hi Raul,
As usual, a very nice pic of you. You always take such good photos. I believe your beard would look awesome. But you have to wear your facial hair the way you like it. Either way you look fabulous!
I sincerely hope you and all of our members have a Happy Easter. I hope you really enjoy your Easter vacation! Maybe your hair will get some super growth progress! Please be safe and enjoy your vacation with your family and friends!
Ted
Hi Ted,
Thanks for the compliments, buddy! :)
I am most curious to see just how long I can sport the beard before I get mad, as well as seeing if there's a lot of silver in it or not, as my hair sure is showing signs of me soon turning 30, hehehe...
Thanks for the warm wishes, and I wish you and your loved ones a wonderful easter vacation with nothing but health and joy!
Hi Raul,
I much appreciate the kind words! I am at dialysis for the next 4 hours so I can't wait to get through it. At least I have the computer to keep me occupied.
You don't look a day over 18 my friend! I know your hair would look just great if it was silver. I kind of wish mine would look like Gordy's. Take care buddy!
Ted
Looking good Raul!
Your thick stubble is cool and think it will look great when it is fuller and longer. Great color btw!
peace,
jonalbear
Hey Jonalbear!
Thanks! I've been growing the beard for around 1.5 weeks now, and can definitely begin to feel some itching. I sort of like the look for now, but as I said, unlike the hair, this is a short time commitment... the moment I get bored, it all goes away, and back to my "beckham" facial hair type I've sported for the last 5 years or so :)
I've found that keeping the neck shaved up to the jawline pretty much eliminates the itching (and looks better, in my opinion).
--Val
Exactly what I am trying, even though I ofte itch at the actual "mustache" (hair above upper lip), but shall probably try some aloe vera gel to get it to relax :)
Raul,
The longer your beard grows, the less it itches.
peace,
jonalbear
I think the "rough stubble" you're sporting here suits you very well, as would a short beard. Actually, you're blessed with an enviable resemblance to Adrian Paul (pictured above, from the Highlander TV series), and probably couldn't look bad if you tried!
Cheers,
Val
Hey Val,
Funny you should say that, as I always have heard I look like Billy Zane (The bad guy in Titanic). This dude does look a bit like me, and we definitely have almost the same sort of hair type as well! FRO's FTW! :D
The beard suits you well, and compliments your hair nicely.
Go for it!
- Oren
Thanks Oren, will see how long I manage keeping it before it drives me insane! Hehe.. working on week 2 now ;)
You look great Raul but so different when dressed like that since it covers your many tattoos.lol.Still you hair is visible so that's very important:)It'll be cool seeing you with longer hair in the future. Then when you look back at a pic such as this you'll wonder why you waited so long to grow your hair out;)LOL.Cheers

Hey Mark,
Yeah, I guess it is kinda strange seeing me looking all ´normal´ and all, hehe. That´s actually something I love doing. Meeting new people while having long sleeves and a jacket on, then all of a sudden drawing up my sleeves and showing some ink. The way people immediately react is priceless :D
Thanks for the kind words! The hair is slowly but steadily getting longer, and I am really looking forward to getting to the 1 year mark, as I haven´t hair that long in over 6 years now. From there on, it´s only fun and good hair times ;)
I started growing my hair long in 1964, it is still long now
in 2013. But i'm not particularly macho looking. Yes I do have a moustache, for a number of years I had a beard, I have hairy legs,
but i'm only 5'9" and have a rather slight build. And where I almost always wear cut off shorts and long hair I am mistaken for
a woman from the rear (usually only happens about 2 or 3 times per year). The difference is obvious when I turn around and see the moustache, (the beard when i had one), and the hairy legs. But after all these years the long hair will stay long until the day I die.
I loved having a beard and not shaving especially when I was out for a number of days mountain climbing. But it was difficult to keep clean so the beard eventually went. But even though the beard went the long hair has stayed long all these years.
I'm actually a bit jealous here. Probably a genetics issue but for some reason I can't grow a full beard like that, I have what you might call "bald spots" where it's completely clean, not a single stubble. Maybe I'm just going nuts but it feels like I'm one of the very few with this problem.
But in any case it suits you well man, gotta make sure the ladies don't dogpile you!
Heya Andy!
Yeah, I have always looked at my rapid facial hair growt as a hassle and a pain in the ass, but I guess I should be thankful for not being patchy when wanting a full beard...
Either way, I am sure there are plently of beard styles that can work for you as well, just a bit more subtle than the lumberjack look, hehe
I feel like seeing what color / texture and how does it feel having a fully grown beard. Lumberjacks, here we come baby! :D
Hi Raul,
Living here in the "land of lumberjacks" (Oregon), full beards are quite the thing. If if feels itchy, especially as you go for the full natural, try using conditioner on it. Right now, in the stubble stage, moisturizers and skin stuff like aloe can do the trick but as it gets the "truly manly" stage, Conditioner is the ticket. Your future partners will thank you too. Softer face is more fun to stroke, etc. So, next time you are conditioning your mane, just do the face too, and see if it does the trick. You have all the genetics to have a fantastic beard. There are dozens of great beard sites which can give you some ideas too.
Happy Holiday, -Daniel
Thanks, Daniel! Will definitely begin using my aussie conditioner on the beard as well! I am sure the little lady will appreciate it! ;)
My inspiration is actually Opie (Ryan Hurst) from Sons of Anarchy, that hair and beard are MAJESTIC! :D
Oh, you're working in Norway ? What do you do there, if I may ask ? I lived one full year in Trondheim. Snakker du norsk ?
Vivien.
Heya Vivien,
Ja, selvfølgelig at jeg gjør det, har jo bodd her i snart 10 år vel ;)
So yeah, as I said, I've moved here to Norway back in 05 because of a girl I met and fell in love with, got married and all that stuff, and been here ever since! :) Lovely country with amazing nature and a climate which suits me just fine :)
What were you doing up north in Trondheim, if you don't mind me asking?
