I've lurked here for a bit and finally decided to post. Always had long hair since 13 and never want to change. In fact I try to get it longer and longer but manageability always reigns supreme and I keep it shoulder length. No styling product EVER touches my hair other than shampoo/cond. which is good because it is super thin strands. What I do works for me and I have alot of advice to offer as well as hope to get alot of advice from others.
Hi Simfan,
Welcomes to the hyperboard, and I am decided that you have decided to "de-lurk" and share your story with us. Your hair looks good, and good luck with your future growing!
Keep it growing,
David
When new guys always come out of hiding it always surprises to me to see how great their hair looks. I'm sure the board is definitely willing to accept your advice, speaking of which, what is your secret to get that hair working that way?
Could be just me, but you remind me ALOT of the actor who starred in one of the Stargate shows. Trust me, that's a pretty good compliment since he's pretty well known. All that being said, I hope you find more time to contribute with the board!
Is this the one you are referring to? (From SG1)
BTW, the show died when O'Neil retired. Farscape SG1 just didn't work. Neither did Stargate Atlantis.
Is this the one you are referring to?
Hm...I don't think that's him, it's the guy that did the one TV series that was a rip-off of Conan the Barbarian, and he was in an episode of Xena the Warrior Princess.
"speaking of which, what is your secret to get that hair working that way?" Well I use only a blow dryer and a round boar bristle brush. Has to be boar bristle because it conditions hair as you use it. I have a combo one that is plastic and boar bristles otherwise it won't grab my hair because it's thin strands. Sometimes I get fed up because it doesn't seem like it but my hair is thick meaning it take like 1hr to dry. The layers make it look less than what it is. If you get a layer cut that's how your hair will lie if you dry it back. It works for me because that 70's/80's flip/feather is coming back.
Just remember before blow drying it's suggested to use products to protect your hair against hotter temperatures to keep it from becoming damaged and forming frizzies. Usually what I do is a patting method with a towel to dry my hair a bit and let it air dry after. It is a bit of a pain because my hair is at the point where it takes 2 hours max to air dry all of it. I've heard some people say 2013 is the "in" year for shoulder length hair for guys, but then again it's coming from the same people that expect your hair to magically grow out of nothing.
You are right with the towel patting. I do the same with an old T-shirt re-purposed as a hair towel because regular towels are bad to dry hair due to roughness that causes breakage ESPECIALLY with fine hair like mine. I do let it air dry mostly before drying. Even though i do faithfully dry my hair everyday, I make sure to use as little shampoo as possible because I have my hair "trained" to produce just the right amount of oil to protect it from heat styling which in turn allows the follicles to bend without breaking. The only other thing I do is deep condition once a week with a bit of mayo, yes mayo because of the acidity and egg/oil moisturizers. That ALWAYS makes my hair good afterwards. Oh, and I take apple cider vinegar twice a day and soy for hair strength. That's it!
Welcome to the grup! Beautiful hair! :-)
Thanks Walter!!!
Welcome aboard, Simfan! Beautiful head of hair you've got there! :)
2 questions:
1. Are you a gamer, and is your nickname based on SimCity, or am I totally off here?
2. When did you get separated from your long lost twin brother, Kevin "Hercules" Sorbo? ;)
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001757/
First, Thanks Raul
1) Played the Sims disgustingly too much as a kid. Not so much Simcity, just the regular Sims.
2)Didn't know who that guy was so of course Google'd him and was like "Yea! Ok, that dude! I watched that show when I was like 7!" lol.
THAT's the guy I was trying to refer to, been so long since I've seen him I completely forgot his name.
I think you look like, and have hair like, Kevin Sorbo(sp?) perhaps even better looking...
Hi Simfan012000,
Welcome to the mlhh and hope you enjoyed your lurking now that you've broken the ice and decided to post:)You hair may not be super long but it does look fantastic! My hair is very fine as well but I keep it as long as it seems to want to grow which is lower back.I'm sure if I kept it at a length such as yours it would be much easier to deal with but I've learned how to deal with the length over the years.I hardly even think of it as a chore as its just routine maintenance at this point.Anyway thank you for jumping into the fray and please do post again my friend.Cheers
Mârk
Great hair! It looks like, like me, you have it professionally styled?
Thanks! No stylist needed. I do it, so I'm my stylist lol.
Just noticed how huge my "avatar" was when replying. Guess I have to resize :/
Hi Simfan,
Thanks for the nice update photo? Your hair is looking fantastic! Are you going to let it grow longer? It would look awesome if it was longer I think. I do understand about the manageability issue. My hair isn't even that long and it sometimes frustrates me.
I am glad you came out of lurkdom and look forward to your future updates. I hope you have a great week my friend! Keep it growin' an flowin'!
Ted

Your hair looks great. More length is possible but more maintenance is necessary with that greater length. (Mine reaches my knees and needs quite a bit of maintenance.) I have fine hair like you averaging 65 to 70 microns and keep multiple hair bands on it.
