Hi, just saw this over at "cute boys with cats .net" and thought you might be amused like I was. Wish my beard was this thick, MY cat might even like to play in this jungle growth. She only likes mine when it's still damp from washing and unbraided.
I have somewhere a picture with a cicada in my beard - I have to dig it up...

A Linux Longhair
An intriguing idea.
As someone who has been owned by numerous cats over the years i'd caution that cats love to play with things like string (read: also long hair.)
That also could potentially lead to the hair (beard) getting damaged especially if the cat is one of those who chews on the hair.
After raisng nine cats over 30+ years i'm very careful now
to keep the hair from getting damaged by cats. So now when
i'm naar the cat in any capacity i'm always very much aware of where my hair is and whether the cat poses a potential danger
to that hair.
I love having long hair, i love my cats, and i'm determined to have both peacefully co-esist.
I can't speak regarding cats, but I have been pawed several times by dogs who took an interest in my beard. Dogs have claws that snag hair, and this hurts!

OMG. What a photo. Wonder what this guy looked like in real life and in color? Well, I am quite sure no birds ever built a nest in his beard! (Not with that cat around anyway.) LOL

I believe that is Hans Langseth.
There's even a website dedicated to his beard legacy:
