Check this crap out:
Texas, it figures. I went through this crap back in the 60s, you'd think this country would have moved past this crap by now.
I found it interesting that this 4 year old had hair that was shorter than the reporter doing the tv news story.
And then there is this story of a kid who is sporting a mohawk:
(I'm always amazed at these school administrators who complain the hair style is disrupting. If there is nothing in the
classroom to disrupt the kids will find something to distract them i.e. day dreaming, looking out the window, doodling, not
paying attention, etc.)
Check out this report from Gaza:
Forced haircuts in Gaza
---------------------------------------
This is unacceptable. If I was forced to live there, I would arm myself and wear body armor. Longhairs and other victims of brutal oppression there should band together, well armed and in large groups, (100 or more) to protect each other, from the corrupt police and other officials. (I don't normally condone this) but shoot first and ask questions later. If the officials there are themselves criminals, it is justified.
It will take massive organization to create a JUGGERNAUT to stop that kind of oppression. In this situation, a civil war might make things improve, in the area of human rights.
Here is a wish/fantasy I would like to see: 1000 longhaired very well armed bikers show up and clean their clocks, giving those Hamas scum the same or worse beatings, that they justly deserve.
This really makes my blood boil.
End of rant.
Scott
When I was living in communist-ruled Romania (before I left in 1988) I was chased several times by police trying to get me because of my hair. As I was using my bicycle to get virtually everywhere where I needed to go they were never able to catch me. One cannot chase a bicyclist with a patrol car or on foot... In 1974 a police car that was chasing me stalled in about 3 ft of water in a flooded underpass - I was able to pass through it with no other problem than wetting my sandals, while one of the police had to wade through the water. He pulled his handgun and ordered me to stop, but I was too far away (about 100 m or 300 ft), riding fast and erratically, for him to hit me if he fired at me.

Hi Linux Longhair,
I am so glad you were able to get away from the terrible conditions you were living under. Thank goodness you never got hurt. I cannot imagine going through that!
Ted
Wow, to think that your long hair was that terrible of a thing to actually
pull a weapon on you! Well I have to remind myself of where you lived
at the time but shutter the thought of that happening here in the US:(

-----------------------------
Wow, those cops were bloodthirsty, uncivilized barbarians. I just can't understand how someone can be so wicked as that. They had the intent of killing you in cold blood for having long hair. Fortunately for you, being 100 meters away from them saved you from being shot in cold blood. A 9mm handgun is just not accurate enough at such a distance.
It seems like there was some divine intervention protecting you in this incident.
Scott
Remember we had something similar in the US of A not too
many years ago. I still vividly remember those who wanted to
kill long haired protestors who protested the war in Viet Nam.
There were many violent confrontations between demonstrators and
police.
If you're too young to remember the era go read up on
things like Kent State and the many other college protests.
Hi Scott,
I'd say you are likely correct if the cop was using a 9mm handgun but the calibre was not mentioned really so who knows what it was.Actually I was able to hit a paper target at 100 yards with a 9mm carbine which actually impressed me at such a great distance.Of course that was a rifle with a longer barrel so that likely made the difference.
Mârk
I think that cop didn't intend to shoot at me, he just tried to intimidate me into surrendering. They had pretty strict rules regarding the use of their service weapons.
Romanian police used at that time Soviet Tokarev (TT-33) 7.62 mm pistols produced locally under licence. I shot TT-33 (and the AK-47 assault rifle) when I was drafted into the Romanian military. One can shoot a target with a TT-33 at up to 100m - if the target is stationary...
There was also a rail line and a slow moving freight train that somehow got between me and that cop...

Hi Scott,
I must agree with your rant. Very very unacceptable indeed. We can only hope.
Ted
Hi LHIA,
This is very unfortunate. As if they need anymore problems in the region. I really am dismayed by the discord in that region of the world.
Ted
Oh, and CEM, did I mention I also like your hair!:)
Ted
I've always been grateful - but feel more so, day by day, that I live in a wonderfully free, Christian democracy ...
Hi CEM,
Me likes Christian Democracies:)
Take care, Ted
This is ridiculous. Do they force the girls to wear dresses too? I guess they want to teach children to conform as young as possible. A word of advice for the parents: Homeschooling. There's not a damn thing that the school system can do to stop you, and it's bound to give your child a much better education than any school that enforces these sexist dress codes.
Hi Septet,
I agree. I just don't see the connection between long hair having anything to do with success in school. Some of the sharpest men I have met had long hair. Maybe if there were enough people who started homeschooling the public schools will pull their heads out of you know where.
Ted
This is the kind of crap that I was facing as a student in Romania during the communist rule. I am glad that I got away from it and that I live in a place (New Jersey) where my kids don't have to put up with this either.

For all of the 'love', 'tolerance', and 'grace' that Christian schools (or areas) preach, they seem to be decidedly intolerant of long hair. Of course, there are exceptions, but as a whole, the vocal (intolerant) minority typically get their way.
Notice how they even have "approved" styles for women, all of them
short?
Hi Runningball,
These are ridiculous haircuts. I can hardly see much difference between each one. I sure am happy I won't be living in North Korea anytime soon!
Ted
This is yet another example of trying to stop people being individuals. Yet there is a fault in their rule which could be challenged in law.
According to the Lytle Independent School District student manual: "Boy's hair must be worn as to not to touch the collar, hang below the ears, or be worn in a ponytail."
They obviously mean hair must not be long enough to wear in a ponytail, but a good lawyer could argue that the rule could also mean that it is not clear whether the "not" applies to the ponytail part of the rule.
No point in a legal challenge, however, as the narrow minded brigade would only change the wording.
This pathetic indoctrination should be resisted by parents.
Well, the ponytail bit is easy enough to get around. There are dozens of hairstyles besides the ponytail they could use. Pigtails, wolftails, plaits... Ooh! Maybe a bun would be conservative enough for them!
Actually a bun is an excellent option being the hair will remain off the collar and above the ears;)So how could they argue with that and when you get home just release the bun and you have your long hair back:)
Mârk
During all the years I had hassles with my hair in school, with parents, and at work I never tried wearing a bun. (in the 60s and
70s).
I loved having long hair, enjoyed every minute of it and I was stubborn and wanted to enjoy every minute of it. So I always wore it loose or it in a pony tail.
Even now I sometimes wear it in a bun but most of the time
I wear it down and loose or in a pony tail, braid, or pig tail. After 49 years my long hair is my trade mark, I don't want to
hide it. I do wear it in a bun sometimes to prevent damage,
Well I'm with you in not wanting to hide my hair but when I do it's to protect it from the environment I'm in such as at work. There I have it stuffed under a baseball cap but have to say I like it at the end of the day when I remove it and my hair isn't all snared up.I work outdoors a lot so you can imagine its windy at times and want to avoid my hair being egg beatered up.lol.I do bun it at other times while out and about but on occasions I will let it down if conditions permit:)At home its always loose.Cheers

I recently did a talk at a school where boys have to keep their hair short (Catholic school). I took great pleasure being an invited guest and "esteemed speaker" on campus with my almost shoulder length hair! Hehe, I'm such a rebel.
The story is just heart-breaking. And a public school at that.
