The other day I was watching the news here in Buenos Aires, when I see the news of some bands in downtown that "steal" women hair.
What they do is, when they see a woman with pretty long hair , they attack her and cut the hair.
These attacks are carried on by two people (in general). One guy stands in front of the lady so that she can't keep on walking, while the other guy on the back fights to cut the hair.
These bands sell the hair they steal to hairdressers or people who later will use it for extensions. In Argentina, you can get 1,000 dollars for a good amount of straight natural long hair.
This also happens in many other parts of Latin America such as Brazil and Colombia. During this last time has been going on in Argentina as well.
I saw the testimony of a lady who happened to get her hair "stolen" twice and she decided to cut it off because she was affraid of getting injured in those attacks.
It seems like they don't do this with long haired guys, since all the reported attacks involved women. But who knows ??

Does this also happen in the USA or anywhere else in the world? I read something in South Africa also, about guys stealing dreadlocks.
These bastards are in Argentina now too? Best advice I can offer is to watch your back.
I'll occasionally see isolated stories about someone's hair being stolen and sold on the black market; but it's usually just that, isolated. I rarely see anything about roving gangs of hair thieves. Most of the other stories will be about hair being cut for revenge of some kind, or people being shorn for "moral" reasons. Check out this link to see what's going on in Gaza right now.

As someone who has woken up to the threat and growing cancer of radical Islam, I am well aware of some of the profoundly undemocratic religious and social systems of CONTROL over people who live in nations where Muslims are in the majority. The ideology of Islam wants to impose itself on Muslims and non-muslims alike and this forced haircuts on men is one of them.
In Indonesia (which is a close northern neighbour of Austalia) in the fundamentalist Muslim controlled province of Aceh, police have been rounding up young men with longish hair and forcing them to have their heads shaved in an measure designed to attack the so-called "western culture". This was reported in an Australian newspaper recently and a forlorn looking line of young males were shown having this done on them. It mad me made but then I do not like the ideology of Islam one bit.
I no longer support the Palestinians since they elected Hamas, an extreme Islamist terrorist group who use Islam to indoctrinate young children to kill Jews. I realised that there will never be peace whilst Palestinians follow Islam because it is a religion that encourages and urges on it's followers to be intolerant of other cultures including the long hair one.

Hamas being idiots doesn't alter the way that Palestine is oppressed by Israel, and isn't why they do it. Israel want their land.
I never met anyone who has been through this before. I do have some friends with really long blonde, straight, thin hair that I suggested to watch out while on the bus or on the streets. I wouldnt like to see this happening to them :(
I think this is insane. So far I am not worrying since my hair is not perfect and long enough for someone to be willing to cut it off or steal it from me haha .. I guess most of these bastards look for people with dreamed hair. But again, who knows?
I have seen stories about people with long hair suddenly finding their long hair missing after a public bus ride or some other such event, never to find out what happened to their hair, but I don't know whether to chalk that up to an urban legend or not.
Some people are just jealous and they envy what others have and what they can't have. It's sad though

I am not sure if this has happened in the USA. But I will tell you anyone who tries to cut my hair will have a confrontation on their hands. You are right, this is crazy. And I will turn crazy if someone lays a hand on my hair. I am growing more and more tired of the intolerance of society. I was not raised that way and will never be that way. I have one simple rule I live by:Live and Let Live. I truly believe the world would be such a better place if everyone would observe that rule. May we hope that happens one day soon!

It is assault and a bunch of fives is a valid response and perfectly legal. Of course, that is another reason why the victims are female.
