I've been browsing around the net, looking for interesting stories, and I came across this thread:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=116691411
It asks why long hair is discriminated against. In a shocking twist, most of the posters on a body building forum were jerky jock types. Inconceivable, I know.
As I read through it, I felt like I should be getting angry. After all, these people were insulting me, insulting us all. But I just couldn't bring myself to get worked up. Mostly because the thread just crashed and burned within the second page. It's fairly amusing.
I know that many of you may hear these kinds of things in real life quite often, and perhaps just as often online. But I think you should take a look at this. It's been captured from what is, arguably, a major opposition's stronghold. It's really quite fascinating what lengths they'll go to in order to preserve their image of unquestionable masculinity.
Also, they know about us.
Yeah when you post on the Misc for any reason you throw the dice... it's almost as bad as 4chan as far as trollish responses go. I'm into bodybuilding and have posted pics of myself there before... did not end well lol.
Lexodus from that forum posts here occasionally though, can't remember under which name, but he's pretty well respected and gets positive feedback on his mane. There's also guys like Valenzuelatech who has an awesome mane and physique to match who gets praise.
But most of them are conformists to the "norm" unfortunately... The Misc is not a place to be treaded into lightly.... "Abandon all hope ye who enter" sums it up nicely! :P
Wow, I am really really shocked for those IGNORANT answers. Because there is no other adjetive to them. They are just ignorant.
But let me point out a few things I read there that really made my day :
- "Who gives a **** about 200+ years ago?" . Following this logic, then why do we study history in school?
- "because it makes you look like a phaggot" - Well, that is not true at all for the following reason:
90% of gay men -in general- wear their hair SHORT because they have the same prejudice that straight men regarding long hair. Its actually not common to see gay men with long hair. Just google any gay porn actor, or any gay model. In general they are not long haired because due to the prejudice there is among long haired guys, they rather wear their hair short than long and because they always look for a 'masculine' kind of look , so they think than having short hair will make them look masculine, and therefore get the eyes from every gay guy . So actually, a "gay" hairstyle would be something very cut and clean.
"Long hair takes to much maintenance and therefore sucks. Don't care if long hair may look better because it's not worth having to put as much effort into my hair as a girl."
Well, to me its backwards. SHORT hair takes a lot more maintenance. Maintenance is not just keeping your hair clean and nice.
My hair grows sooooo fast. When I had short hair, I had to go to the hairdressers and get it cut every 10 or 15 days.
Also, having short hair requires styling products - like gel, mousse, etc- and spending hours in front of the mirror throughout the day so that you keep your hair in place.
So what is more 'feminine' ? A guy with short hair who spends HOURS - and money- going to the hairdressers, using styling products , and HOURS in front of the mirror? Or a long haired guy who just washes his hair, leaves it dry and thats it?
- "skinny/average with long hair = gay¨. Again, IGNORANCE on this comment.
Not only for discriminating long haired guys, but also for discriminating guys who dont give a fck about their body and are not interested on being muscled.
And again, I AM SURE that I can google gay male models or gay porn actor on Google and most of them will be muscled short-haired guys.
I wonder if too much anabolics probably ruined their minds. I also wonder if they are ignoran all day long or if they just take a break to have lunch. Who knows?
What would one expect from a bunch of mainstream, conformist, herd of jocks, buddy?
Of course that anything that is different than what their group mentality says is "normal" ain't going to fly, is going to get ridiculed. I mean, just imagine if one of them had suddenly wanted to buy a kitten, do some gardnering, read a book or god forbid, have longer hair?
Honestly, I really feel sorry for such people, because they are so insecure about who they are and what they stand for, that without a whole group og like minded people behind them, they would be simply lost. Even worse, they have to be negative towards others who are different and show no tolerance towards others, in order to feel good about themselves.
Shitty situation, but sadly- that's life.
This cracked me up honestly. I really love all the guys talking about looking alpha or beta. If you have to try to look and project yourself as some alpha male... you're not.
I have a few friends in the bodybuilding world, some of them professionals, one even has long hair. He has to put it in a bun for competitions, but he says nobody ever makes fun of him for it. Then again, he's a beast.
