Hello everyone, after a five year brush with short hair I've decided to grow my mane out again. I'm not exactly new to this board, though to be honest I have been absent most of the last five years. I still see many of the old faces on here which is great, and I'm excited for all the new faces as well. MLHH was a huge inspiration and support when I first grew out my hair and I already know it will be again this time.
I never really did the progress picture thing before, but now it is something I would like to do, if only for my own records and possible inspiration to others. I have very fine, straight hair on the top and sides, with wavy hair in the back. It makes for a really annoying awkward stage, but it really starts looking good once my bangs reach about chin length.
I had grown my hair almost to ponytail length a few years ago, but damage and a very conservative captain (I work on a towboat) forced me to cut again. Luckily things are a bit different now, all the wheelmen I work with now support long hair and even sported it themselves for most of their lives. One of my crew mates even has some very nice looking mid back dreads.
I'm looking forward to long hair again, but I'm trying to enjoy the process. That's why I'm so glad this board is around, it makes that journey so much more pleasant.

Hi CJ,
Glad to hear you're going to grow out your mane again! Also happy to hear you have a better situation with your job. Nice to hear one of your coworkers has dreads. I am definitely looking forard to your future updates and know your hair will look great long. Embrace the awkward stage and go for it! Hope you have a great week my friend and welcome back home!
Ted
Although it's short now, I can tell your hair will look amazing once its longer ! Do you have any pics from when it was longer?
I'm a big fan of fine, straight hair. But unfortunately my hair is not like that :(
Good luck on your hair growth journey !
I have a couple laying around, here's one from right before I cut it. Not the best pic ever but you get the idea.
Wow, I love it.
So thin and straight hair!!
You have(had) great looking hair, very similar in texture to what I have. I think the biggest challenge with fine straight hair is keeping it protected from damage. The benefit you have this time around is knowing what to do and not do to get it to your desired goal.
Good luck! I can't wait to see to see how it looks along the way. :-)

Absolutely fantastic CJ! I knew your hair looked awesome long! I appreciate your inspiration! Please keep it growing!

Huh, looks like we've got similar hair types. Mine has different color (blonder one), hairline and it's a bit wavier (just a bit), but it's also fine, just like yours.
Huh, it'd be interesting to see your updates.
And yeah, welcome aboard and good luck! :)
Serge
My thoughts exactly, Serge... definitely same hair type as yours!
You and I are in exactly the same boat right now. After 2 and 1/2 years of keeping mine buzzed short and spiky, I just recently decided to regrow my long hair as well. I'm only about 6 weeks in after my last buzz so I won't post any updates for a while but I think it's cool someone else is starting their journey so close to the same time as me. Race ya! :)
You're on!
I'm glad to hear you've decided to regrow. If you're like me than you just never felt right with short hair. Good luck to you on your growth.
Heya Siege!
Welcome aboard!
I know exactly the feeling you're describing about having cut off long hair and feeling you are not... whole.
I sported long hair between 2004-2007 or so, and cut it in early 2008. Have been going around with different shorter hairstyles ever since, but always missing my long hair. I think it's almost a part of our DNA, having long hair- something we must have in order to feel we are ourselves, the way we want to be.
Either way, I love your hairtype, nice, straight and fine... you will be there again in no time! :)
Keep away from the scissors!
Amen, brother, well said.
Hi Siege,
I'm glad things are more favorable for you this time to grow your hair. Do enjoy the process! The journey is really part of the fun.

Having a boss that is understanding of the plight of a first time or repeat longhair can be very freeing. Happy growing, please post updates as you reach your goals. :)
