I haven't had a single trim in 6 months!
My goal is to make it 12 months total before beginning S&D'ing.
Currently I CO wash 6 of 7 days a week.
I take one day to give my hair a break from moisture.
No heat or styling products.
Wide tooth comb 2 times a day.
I switch between cones, and no cones, my hair loves both.
And I shampoo with organic shampoo 2-4 times a month, depends.
I also take a daily multivitamin and drink lots of water.
I have included an image of how much my bangs have grown in the last 6 months. I don't plan to start taking photos of the back until it reaches shoulder length, so hopefully by December.
Currently the back is duck-tailing on my collar, and very awkward, this is the hardest part I assume. I will be at what I consider long hair once I can gather it all up in a pony, maybe by Dec. At least for me. At that point I hope to put it back in the morning and forget about it until I reach a longer goal. Ultimately I would like classic length hair. :)
Currently my bangs are long enough to put in my mouth, first time in my life! Strange and exciting when you are able to do something random like that for the first time ever lol!
Happy growing guys!

Hi John,
Welcome to the MLHH! As you appear to have type 1a hair you shouldn't have much trouble getting to your goal. Even though your hair is straight it will do what it's doing at your collar. Once it passes your collar it should hang free better. You will look great with long hair and I look forward to your future updates. Please keep it growing and stay away from the scissors! Great week to you my friend!
Ted
Thank you for the warm welcome Ted! No scissors for me, I am avoiding a cut like the plague! I hope it stays straight to my collar bone and then gets waves, love that kind of hair. I will be sure to post an update in a few months. : )
You can rat tail it now, if you'd want to. Looking good, and welcome to the club!
I prefer to not trim the back while growing my hair out, but that should be the easiest to take care of. Now that summer is on, don't hunch over, keep your head tilted slightly forward, and your hair shouldn't duck tail too much.
I haven't trimmed any of the hair in the back. When I started the back was much shorter than the bangs. It has layers in it, which I think is making it seem to take ages growing!
I did try a little pony stump, this was the result.
Welcome aboard, John!
And damn all of you people with perfec 1a type hair, having zero problems looking like you have a mop or a dead raccoon on your head... just so you know ;)
Last time I tried growing my hair out, I also cut the back very often (every 3-4 weeks or so), in order to give the front and sides time to catch up and have one length hair from the start... that didn't last more than 6-7 months or so, so this time around, I am embracing my inner redneck and sporting my mini-mullet with pride! :D
Great looking hair, and you can already tell it will look splendid when longer, you are one lucky dude! Now stay away from them scissors, ya' hear?
I have done a lot of reading about haircare, but what is this hair type thing? Can you link me to a chart or page that explains it? :)
I have not cut the back at all, but it was very very short when I started and as the layers grow it seems to take forever. I did have to power through 3 months of very mullet-like hair! haha. I am glad I waited, it is starting to "normalized".
I am a recovering short hair, and have swore off the scissors :D
I had no idea about hair types either - so I googled it. See the link below. My own hair is somewhere between 1c and 2a.
Your hair is looking good, John.

Hair Types
Hi Damon,
And to truly find out what type your hair is you must wash it with a clarifying shampoo. No conditioner can be used because it can change the curl pattern or weigh hair down. Then the hair cannot be manipulated i.e. combing, brushing etc. It must be left to air dry without touching. Then you type it.
I can comb much of my waviness out when my hair is wet. Also, some conditioners make my hair appear less wavy. Hope this helps.
Ted
Ah! Thanks, Ted. In that case, my own hair is naturally type 1c - only a tiny hint of waviness. After conditioner, toweling it dry and combing (with a wide-tooth comb) it becomes type 2a or 2b - but I'm happy with that coz it gives it far more volume.

Hi Damon,
That's interesting. My hair does just the opposite it seems. Of course, I don't really care what my hair does as long as it grows! Curly, wavy or straight I love LONG hair! Hair is better than no hair! Take care and have a great weekend my friend!
Ted
When I shampoo I am between 1a and 1b. :) Thank you both for all the help.

Hi there John, welcome to the hyperboard:)Based on your post it looks like you've been researching the "longhair thing" which is good and can save a lot of headaches down the road.Too often guys over react and end up trimming their hair too much.Your hair looks great and has much potential my friend. Please keep us updated on your progress:) Cheers

I tried to find out as much as I could in the beginning while my hair was very short. I figure the healthier it is now, the longer I can grow it. And as a first time longhair classic feels like a forever away goal, but I am staying strong! I'll be sure to update, thank you for the warm welcome! :)
You have a great hair colour, and you seem very committed to growing your hair! have a happy journey, and with hair like yours I'd say you'll go past the awkward stage in more "ease". lol :)

Thank you. The only thing I seem to have a problem with is this "patience" and "waiting" everyone keeps talking about haha. See you on Facebook! :)
Welcome to the Board, John! It certainly sounds like you already know what you're doing. I wish you good fortune in your endeavors.
Thank you very much. Happy growing to you! :)
