1) Did any of you guys here rock a mullet back in the 80s and 90s?
2) How exactly do you define a mullet? I ask because I believe my father wore a style which most would consider a mullet, but I consider it between truly long hair and a mullet: He wore the back and sides long. The length in the sides started just behind the ear. It was not long simply in the back. At times, the bangs in front would be as long as his eyes--and therefore I don't consider that truly a mullet.
Mr Hair,
Any cut or shaved sides or bangs constitute a mullet. Doesn't matter how long the tail is or has been! Been there, done that.
Completely mullet recovered at this time.

No I did not have one. I've kept my long hair long.
In fact in the 80s I had hair down to my knees which would not
qualify for a mullet.
A mullet is defined as short in the front, long in the back.
Mullets
Hi Mr. Hair,
I guess I must admit to rocking the mullet back in the day! Time and place for everything I guess!
I think the main thing about a mullet is a noticeable difference between front and back lengths. Also, I think most of the time there is little to no layering in the style. A lot of rock stars have kind of a layered type mullet hairstyle. I like to think of it as a smoothed out mullet. However, there are many different variations of the mullet. In my eyes a true mullet is cut to make almost an L shape style around the head. That's the only way I can think to put it. The mullet hairstyle is for people who can't decide if they want long hair or short hair. My 2 cents of course.

What about something like this?
Remember like I said, the growth of the hair starts immediately behind the ears, and you can see the bangs almost reach the eyes
Those styles almost look like some type of bob hairstyle. Although I think a bob usually covers the ears more.
Business in front, Party in back. I must admit I had a mullet, or to use the satylists term of the day. A "Bi'Level" cut. down ro my shoulders in back and a cantilevered wedge of hair in front that actually served the same shading purpose as the bill on a baseball cap. I I pulled it own over my face, it came to my chin. However it was short ebough on the sides that my earslobes were expose. A very 80s look. Hell. I even drove an '84 ElCamino. Just completed the picture, along with acid washed tight jeans and Izod Shirts. My hair went through many stages between its midback length of the 70s and the mid back length I enjoy, today. Mid back seems to be my "comfort" length. I feel most at peace with it at this length. As for a Mulet. Been there, done that. have the T-shirt. No desire to go there, again. (Wish I still had that ElCamino, though)
... my current style & length came & originated from a mullet = ( pic. taken 12th Sept. 2010 ).
Hi CEM,
I would say you've come a LONG way baby! Your hair looks wonderful-even in a crazy mullet! Good day to you friend!
Ted
LOL = FANKZ EYE FINKZ !!! :)) cheers teddy ! :0)
My current style originated from what was technically a mullet as well. I say technically, because while your and my hair was shorter on the front it was styled to look like longer hair rather than where the front is styled to look obviously short.

Hi Dale - I totally agree with you in full = a true Mullet is UGLY: ( IMHO ) = but a 'grown-out' Mullet or a somewhat tempered or modified: ( layered ) Mullet: ( to me ) is very attractive & becomes more so as it grows ... then as it keeps growing it eventually ceases to be a Mullet any more: ( the 2nd. Mullet pic. = ( 3rd. Jan. 2011 - approx. 4 months on from the 1st. pic. ) ... cheers to you bud & have a great day !!! CEM. :0)
Grown out mullet looks fantastic on you..
Great look on you.
1) I was a 90's kid. Wish I could have experienced some of the 80's though. Anyway, I totally rocked a mullet as a child. As well as a bowl cut, never going there again.
2) I define a mullet as any hair cut where the bangs are above the eyebrows, the sides are at or above ear level and the back is down to the collar or longer. I think that those lengths are what make the mullet look.
If you are thinking about cutting it you could always trim the back until the front and sides catch up. But the more you trim the slower you reach your goal. Happy growing! :)
Feel free to chat on Facebook!
I never rocked the mullet, though many of my friends did. I was still too young to have any say over my hair back then. Though I did have a rat-tail for a while. I managed to sneak that one in while my parents dropped me off with family for a couple weeks one summer.
I define mullets as a haircut that is short in the front but long in the back. I had a friend who had an awesome mullet for years (still does sorta, but the front is getting borderline long now). He was a newscaster in Guam. He would tie his hair into a pony tail, and with the business looking front, nobody seeing him on camera ever knew.
A mullet is the least awkward way of growing your hair out. It's also the natural consequence when you don't cut your hair while growing your hair from a buzzcut.
Objectively, a mullet is three times longer in the back than in the front.
I never wore a mullet but I saw a wide veariety of mullets in the 90s. A mullet is short in ffont, long in the back. How long in the back varied from person to person. Some were a few inches longer, some were as long as waist length.
While the mullet was the style back in the 80s I kept my hair long, by the 80s my hair was down to my knees. I flatly refused to cut it into a mullet. The front was long and I refused to cut it where a mullet was short in front and long in the back.
Even though i found knee length hair to be too long at that point in the 80s I only cut it back to waist length (front and
back).
