Hey guys,
I've recently decided to start growing my hair out. Hair has always been a battle for me, so I thought I'd try some length! My last haircut was December 2012 and I decided in February that I wanted some long locks. It's about 2.5 inches right now, I've been using Hair Skin & Nails vitamins and some Omega-3 every day to optimize my growth. I know time is the only thing I really need, but do you guys have any tips on speeding up my hair growth? Also, I think I'm starting to enter the awkward stage and I have no idea what to do until I've got something to work with. Any suggestions would be awesome.
Thanks in Advance,
Timboe
Ultimately there is no way to speed up growth. You can take vitamin, etc. but ultimately your hair (if it is average) will
only grow 1/2 inch per month. You might luck out and have hair that grows faster but most of us don't fall into that category.
At a 1/2 inch per month you can do the math to determine how
long it will take to reach your goal length.
It's all in da genes bro! but try these out yo:
1). Drink lots of water daily
2) some kind of daily exercise
3) have a high protein diet, soy, seaweed, dark leafy greens, and salmon I noticed has helped improve the shine and quality of my hair.
4) when it gets crazy, sleek it back with aloe vera gel (get the organic kind if you can find it or close to it) Otherwise, it's just bandannas, beanies, and baseball caps for now until you can ponytail your hair.
5) try to stretch out your washes while your hair is short, cause if you ever get long like past armpit length, then it will be super challenging to train the scalp into this routine. Had I known, this would of been the first thing I did.
6) Start getting into the habit of oiling your hair and especially your ends with organic virgin coconut oil or any other oils that might work better for your hair. (only you can determine this by trial and error).
7) replace your pillow covers with satin or silk covers since it is more gentle on the hair and doesn't suck out the moisture.
8) Do you know your hair type already? Is it straight, wavy, or curly etc.. What type of hair do your parents have and go by that if you don't know yet. This is important because each textures have different routines.
9) Avoid all heat tools, blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons, etc., at all cost!
10) make sure you get plenty of sleep and that you don't deprive your self of sleep.
11) Take good care of your self, your health is the key for hair growth. If you notice lots of shedding then go see a doctor and get blood work done. Your health will also reflect in the quality of your hair when it grows out.
These are just a tiny amount of information, and you'll find many more information, but it's all about having fun and trying out things that will work specifically only to your hair. Everyone is different , therefore your routine will be unique, but only you can figure that out by trial and error.
The best thing to do is enjoy the journey.
I started giowing my hair long in 1964. It was a very long difficult journey, I got lots of hassles from teachers, school administrators, and in the early years from my parents.
My parents got divorced early on so that hassle dissappeared early on but I still had all the hassles with teachers and school administrators. But it was the a great time to be a long hair,
I thoroughly enjoyed the journey from 1964 to when my hair really long years later. Despite all the hassles from teachers and administrators I loved the journey from beginning to end. I desperaretly wanted long hair and pesisted in my journey to having long hair despite all the suspensions that I had to deal
with in my school years.
Well it is now 48 years later, my hair is still long, I did graduate from high school, graduated from college, got many
jobs over the years and still managed to successfully keep my long hair long.
At 1/2 inch per month hair grows very slowly. But it was really
exciting to wake up each day enjoy watching my hair grow, watching the progress, and marking all the milestones. And each time I got into trouble with school officials about how long my hair was it became more of an incentive to keep my long hair long and continue growing it. They would continue to insist I cut it and I continued to flatly refuse. It also helped me greatly that I had very good grades so that helped in the battle.
Hello Timboe,
Thanks for the nice update! You seem to have good hair to grow out. It appears to be straight and has great dark color. As far as speeding up the growth, that is kind of hard to do. I think you should just sit back and enjoy the journey. Your hair will surprise you with the different phases.
I think you have a ways to go before you hit the awkward stage. But then again, with your hair type, you may not have much of an awkward stage. I hope you keep growing and please keep us updated on your progress. I don't really think the vitamins are going to speed your hair growth. But they are good for your general health:) Take and great week to you my friend!

Hi Timboe.
Great that you have decided to take the journey into Long Hair. You will be well rewared. 2.5" is 6+ months still to go before hitting the awkward stage. Some guys who have never had long hair before will tell me that when it is just touching their ears that they are right in the middle of it and are annoyed because it is "tickling" their ears. I simply tell them to take advantage of the tickles and have a good laugh. LOL Best suggestion of all at this point is to look in the links section here where there is about all you would need to know about how to grow your hair out. Best wishes and good luck growing out your hair.

Hey, cool you decided to grow your hair out !
These are a few tips I can give you:
1- On the picture it looks like you have gel on your hair. I would recommend not to use gel since it contains very harsh products for your hair and it will damage it . Basically, it will dry it out and you seem to have very nice straight hair and you dont't wanna dry it out haha
2- For hair growth, I would suggest you take BIOTIN. You can find it at any retailer store. Biotin is also known as vitamin H or B7. It is a water-soluble B-complex vitamin . Biotin supplements are often recommended for people with deficiencies in this vitamin to counteract hair loss. Many people also take an increased dose of the supplement to increase their hair growth rate, which effects can vary from one person to the other depending on several metabolism factors.
A very large number of people report that Biotin helps their natural hair grow faster and stronger (thicker). Although Biotin is created from yeast and bacteria, and is naturally produced by our bodies, increasing the dose we naturally create stimulates the creation and growth of hair and new skin cells, making them healthier and more abundant.
Personally, i never tried it because my hair already grows pretty fast, but I've heard a lot of people trying biotin to help their hair grow faster . You can even google or youtube it. There are tons of info regarding Biotin.
3- I think you're havent made it to the awkward stage yet. You will realize when you get there because your hair will not be short as to be considered short and will not be as long as to be considered long. Basically, your bangs will be long but you wont be able to put them behind your ears. Your hair will not be short nor long. It sucks.
4- During the awkward stage is very important not to listen to other people's opinions. They will always say things like "Its time for a haircut". So here is when you have to be stronger about your goals because this is the part where 90% of men fail at growing their hair.
5- Google some pictures of long haired men for inspiration. Browse for YouTube videos of people in the same situation as you.
6 - Do not check for your hair every now and then. Just let it grow. The more attention you pay to it, the worst. Just forget about it and let it grow.
Hello Timboe, welcome to the board! The main thing you're gonna need is patience. Not only in waiting for your hair to grow, but also in dealing with other people.
I've heard that cucumber juice can be good for hair because of its high silicon (not silicone) and sulfur content. I haven't seen any conclusive evidence on this, so you'll have to see for yourself if it works. But on the bright side, it's gotta be cheaper than pills and such.
I don't think you're quite at the awkward stage yet. That stage usually begins when people start asking you if you need some money for a barber, and ends when you can put your hair into a decent tail. The barber offers don't usually end, though. I'm currently coming up on the end of my awkward stage, and through most of it I just powered through. If I was going somewhere where formality was required I might put gel in, or put it into a topknot, but for the most part I just went around with my hair loose.
I wish you well on your journey, and hope to see you again soon!
