With the tornadoes in the Oklahoma area is OKCDude, his family and the other posters in the Oklahoma area OK?
I sure hope so.
Thanks for your interest and concern. I really appreciate it. My family lives in the northwest area of OKC and the storms have been all on the south side. As of now, 51 people have been killed as a result of today's F-5 tornado. Officials assure us that the death toll will be sure to rise further. Please pray for our city.
Steve
Hello Steve,
I thank God you and your family are fine. I have been watching with horror the devastation your fair city has sustained. I shall pray that everything gets back to normal with Godspeed. May you all come through this as best you can. God Bless you all.
Ted
Thank you, Ted. I am just numb after seeing and hearing everything that's gone on today. There are still rescue workers digging through rubble as they search for so many that are still unaccounted for. At the same time, a large number of displaced kids of all ages are being housed at various places while they wait on their parents to come for them. It's such a hurting, empty feeling to imagine what those little guys are thinking at after 11:00 at night, as they wonder where mom and dad are. I take comfort only in knowing that God still is in control. Am so glad that He can make some sense out of it, because I'm having trouble myself.
Hi Steve,
Yes, God is still in control and He shall make your city whole again. Be well my friend!

Thank God you are alright, Steve. I pray that God puts a hedge of protection around you and your family.

Thanks, Scott. I receive that!
... shocking beyond belief - global warming: ( In full swing ) ...
Frankly I feel the "Global Warming" argument is bogus but when you want to score political points it comes in handy.Just my opinion though.Cheers

are the answer. These can withstand earthquakes, tornadoes, and hurricanes without damage. ALL house structures in tornado alley should be of this construction. Due to being round, winds FLOW AROUND them.
High rise office buildings could be made cylindrical out of 1/2 inch thick steel plate for the skin. (Think of a ship hull on end.) Windows could be of 3/4 inch thick polycarbonate plastic. The high rise design is my idea and should work for a 40 to 60 story building.

I would have to disagree. You're probably alot better off
with a safe room/storm room which a number of people
in tornado alley have been using in recent years. Escpecially when you've got many buildings in the Oklahoma area that have
been destroyed by this severe tornado. I have real doubts about
whether a round buiding would survive and not be picked up and
deposited many miles away by the 300+mph winds a tornado can
contain. Do you have information that this type of round
building can withstand those sever tornado winds?
I don't see how being round would help. After all you've got powerful tornado that just pick up the entire sructure and move it/destroy it.

There's an expression among engineers that "any damn fool can design a bridge if you let him use enough steel". Construction techniques have to be weighed against cost. Before achieving a tornado-proof building it would be cheaper to just bury everything. This is not done because of cost.
It would be easy to see if round structures are invincible. The plains states in tornado alley are chock full of round grain silos. Just ask around whether any have ever collapsed. (This would be a silly exercise - tornados sometimes leave them in the next county.)

This is a shot I got with my iPhone this afternoon. This used to be an exclusive luxury-type movie theater before the storm hit. It's a shambles now.

Which to be expected since Oklahoma got smashed with winds in
excess of 300 mph. And it is a miracle that alot of
residents of Oklahoma survived that.
If I lived in Tornado Alley i'd seriously consider buying a tornado safe room.
