Mentions that he's long-haired in article. Thought it might be of interest to some in this forum since it shows a long-hair in a positive light.
I'm still lurking, even if I haven't posted. But seeing a lot of new posters and some great hair from the old-timers. This forum is as strong as ever.
Professional slackliner Reinhard Kleindl walks a high wire
In a positve light? As someone who did rock climging in college
with ropes, and other safety measures i've got to ask if this guy
is in his right mind? One misstep/loosing his balance/etc.
and splat.............
Does this guy have a death wish? Is detemined to commit suicide?
I've never understood the appeal of doing something like this.
Positive light in that he's not yet another long-hair in the news as a crime suspect (The latest being the alleged killer of Leila Fowler, identified by her brother and a neighbor as a scruffy long-haired white or Hispanic guy. It turns out the guy doesn't exist). Or some other biased story painting short hair as neat and attractive and long hair as sloppy and unattractive (Like how actor Johnny Depp looks SO much more attractive since he cut his hair short and removed his beard, possibly for a movie he's now working in).
Reinhard Kleindl also studied particle physics (His thesis is online here: http://physik.uni-graz.at/itp/files/kleindl/diplomarbeit.pdf), which makes him a highly educated longhair (some people can't comprehend that due to personal bias towards long hair on men in general). Slacklines are flat and he used a climbing harness with a leash attached to the slackline itself which trails behind him. Look closely at the picture, and you can see the harness. Visit his blospot page and there is a post for Tre Cime Highlines towards the middle, with a video at the end (You can move up to the middle of the video). It shows him and another slackliner with long blond hair both walking a slackline (and falling at first). Nobody dies, nobody gets injured, nobody goes splat; he's not foolish like a few who go freestyle.

Now in the original article you posted was this:
"Reinhard Kleindl, 32, used only his arms to balance as he walked twice along a 98-feet-long polyester rope anchored to the two wings of Frankfurt's U-shaped skyscraper Tower 185 above hundreds of cheering supporters. "
That says nothing about any Harness, just his arms to balance.
That to me screams foolhardy.
It says he only used his arms for balance. Doesn't say a thing about any safety equipment he may or may not have had. I think the writer was making the point that unlike some high line walkers he wasn't using a pole or anything else for balance.
Thanks for that comment. And again, he's wearing the harness in the picture in the article, even though the article doesn't mention it. You make a good point about the pole, often see them used by high wire enthusiasts; the author may indeed have been intending to make a point in mentioning the use of arms for balance.
Hi Carol, great seeing you post again after such a long absence:)It's nice seeing long haired men shown in a more positive light instead of being criticized for bending the rules of what a man is supposed to look like.I know other sports where more men are long haired which is nice to see at that level.Possibly some are in it just as a fashion statement or trend unlike myself who wears my hair long as trends come and go.LOL. I don't follow trends but present myself in a way that appeals to me:)Cheers my friend.

A while back there was an article in the NFL news that stated there were 63 men with long hair in the NFL. I had never realized that there were that many but it was good to read that.
That was several years ago and I haven't seen any updates recently
on that.
In my email each day I get a round up of NFL news and that article was among that round up.
Tom Brady comes to mind, wife Giselle Bundchen encouraged him to grow it long. Then he cut it off saying he likes to change it up. Trends come and go. All the celebrity females running to get the trendy "pixie cuts". I noticed several have been letting their hair grow. Reported fashion trends are that long hair will be back in fashion in the fall. Guess we will see them all running to get hair extensions. Never understood fashion and grooming trends. Forge your own path, be an individual. ;-)
How great to see you....and it is good to know that you are still with us.
Thanks for sharing.

Still here, nice to see you too! How's the "herd of Calico's"? I still remember you posting a pic of the kitties being awed by a rare snow storm.
