Hi Guys,
I was chatting to a friend about growing my hair out and he suggested I check this site out as it might help me to have a support group when the going gets tough. I think it's cool that such a place exists!
This is a recent photo of me. I got a haircut the first week of May. Ideally I'd like to grow it out to just above my shoulders.
I've added a pic of what I hope to achieve.
Cheers,
Simon
Welcome aboard. For someone growing their hair this a
great place. Too bad it didn't exist when I started growing
my hair in 1964.
I started growing my hair long in 1954 and found out the hard
way how tough the road to long hairdom is. I got lots of resistance from teachers, school administrators, and employers.
And to put that into prespective look up how short the Beatles
hair cuts were in 1964 and yet that was extremely controversial at the time and I got lots of resistance at school. And that
was extremely short compared to what my hair was in later years.
(Many years later it got to waist length.) And of course the more the school administrators and teachers complained the more
I was absolutelty determined to keep my long hair long and keep it growing.
Thanks to everyone for their kind words and warm welcome. A little back story, I have grown my hair out to my shoulders twice before, so I have a relative idea of the process but this will be the first time in my adult years that I will make the journey. My motivation definitely stems from a dissident place. I actually come from a family of long hairs. My dad and his brothers came of age in the turbulent 60s so I guess it runs in the family ;).
Cheers,
Simon
Welcome.
Just throw away the scissors, resist the urge to go to a hair dresser and relax about it. Ignore anyone that comments adversely as well.
Good luck
Hey my man, the more the merrier!
You're pretty much come to the right place, especially since there aren't many sites that really focus on long hair (for men anyways.) You'll find alot of the guys here have been doing this for quite a while and have alot of tips n tricks regarding growing it out.
To be totally honest, it can seem like a pretty long journey and at times you'll feel like it hasn't grown at all, but if you are able to dedicate yourself to the program it'll seem like yesterday is only a stone's throw away. Along your travels you might face hostility and controversy but really it's just coming from people who have been led to believe we must fall under certain social stereotypes. If you take what they sayu with a grain or salt (or hell, a whole bag of it) it won't take long to reach your goal.
As a suggestion, when you reach your goal you should experiment with various styles, lengths, and methods to make your hair look clean and healthy. There's still a pretty big market for women who dig the long lovely locks contrary to what alot of other people tell you.
For a little inspiration I recommend you watch Justin's "For Men With Long Hair" series if you start to have qualms or people are trying to bog you down and force their opinions and ideals on you. I hope you'll find his series of videos as assuring and inspiring as yself and alot of the other folk here.
I wish you the best of luck on your journey man, peace.
