I got my hair cut for the last time on May 6th.
This is how it looked as of May 10th.
How long will it take for the sides and back to be long enough to pull into a ponytail--to get to chin or shoulder length? How many months, how long?
On average hair grows at 1/2" per month. You can do the math.
Growing hair long is take s lot of patience, at 1/2 inch per month it takes a long time to reach any goal that is set.
Hi Mr. Hair,
I am happy to hear you got your last haircut! I am not sure what type of hair you have. But, I would guess about 1 to 2 years for shoulder length. Probably at least 3 years for a good pony tail. Of course, this depends on your genetics and whether or not you get trims etc. along the way. I do believe your hair would look fantastic at longer lengths. I wish you magical growth powers and look forward to your future updates! Plus, the earring would look awesome with your longer hair!
Hope you have a great upcoming week my friend!

Wavy, somewhat curly hair.
Are you sure I couldn't have a ponytail in just a year? I'm not talking a long one. And I'm only growing out the sides and back.

Hi Mr. Hair,
Okay. Yes, for a ponytail this length you could probably grow that in 1-2 years. I didn't realize you were only going to grow the back and sides. Are you going for a mullet? It is still going to take a while because your hair appears to be cut tapered in the back. In other words, it is longer towards the top. Your hair has to even out before it can grow longer. Once the hair fills the taper in then it can appear even at the bottom in the back. Just be patient and it will happen. No more scissors! Hope this helps.
Ted
I wanna grow it like this--see how the sides and back are long? Do you think I could achieve that in a year--from May 6th 2013 (last haircut) to May 6th 2014?
Hello Mr. Hair,
I really do think it might take longer than a year to achieve this length. Of course, I could be wrong about this. If you figure 6 inches of growth per year average, maybe 1 to 2 years. The person in the photo has probably 12-14 inch long hair if it were stretched out. Your hair right now has the taper or fade in the back which must be grown out before you start to see the hair grow down. But with much patience and no trims you can certainly achieve this style. Hope this helps!
Ted
Ok. Hmm. Given the length of my hair then, as shown in my pic, if it grows the average rate, how long could you see it being in a year then? Just trying to figure this out. My ex really set me back because it was already starting to curl under my ears.
With no trims I think it would be solid collar length. I mean you could comb it all back and it would probably be all one length at the top of your shoulders. I could be wrong, but remember you have that awful taper or fade all around to deal with. Remember also I said no trims whatsoever.
Ted
Would that be long enough to pull into a ponytail? Yes I don't intend on any trims at all.
Hey Mr. Hair,
Welcome to the Long Hair Tribe! I'm glad to acknowledge you as my long haired bro!
Speaking from my experience I was able to put my hair in a stubby ponytail after ten (10) months of growth. At twenty (20) months of growth I was able to tuck my ponytail under the back of my collar. I am now at twenty-six (26) months of growth and there are still some hairs in the front of my head which do not quiet reach to the tie at the back of my head forming my ponytail. I expect that at thirty (30) months when I have fifteen (15) inches of growth then I should be able to gather all of my hair into a ponytail. Then the awkward stage will be over. So bro, after thirty (30) months of growth you should be able to gather all of your hair, even the hairs in the front of your head into a ponytail. I recommend that you let all of your hair grow out.
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
Hey there, Mr. Hair!
Glad to see that you're back, and I hope you've had a talk with that girlfriend of yours.
My advice for you is to just not worry about the length. From what you said previously, you've got curly hair. As such, you're not going to have the kind of hair that people like Rktect or Trolleypup have, unless you use some kind of straightener. The curls are going to eat length and give you volume, like a spring.
Just enjoy the ride and stop worrying. It's not a race, it's an adventure! Don't try and put it into a timetable, and don't measure more than once a month. (And even that's pushing it.) It's like trying to watch water boil. If you sit there having a staring contest with it, it's boring and frustrating. But if you leave it alone and come check it after a good long while, you'll have a pleasant surprise waiting for you!
Never stop growing, friend! Mind, body, and soul!

The best thing to do is enjoy your hair every day, but don't
worry about the length. If you concentrate on enjoying your
hair and stop woirrying about the length you'll be amazed that one
day you'll look in the mirror and be amazed at hos long your hair
has grown. But hair only grows at 1/2 inch per month so it will
take a long time.
