It was 45 years ago tonight when this long haired boy heard the news that RFK had been shot. 45 years ago.
I often wonder what the future would have been had RFK, JFK, and MLK not been shot.
Hi LHIA,
I would venture to guess it just might be a better place. Those three people were what I would consider humanitarians. In my opinion their loss was a hefty one. May they Rest In Peace.
I just watched the piece on the news about RFK.
Ted
I still vividly remember the day each of them died.
And if you go back to your Civil War "roots" I think the country,
at least regarding civil rights, would have been a lot better if
Lincoln had not been shot.
Maybe maybe not. Sure Lincoln ended slavery, but I doubt he would have gotten much done in the way of civil rights. Especially not with the southern states. If he had pushed civil rights maybe it would provoked another civl war or prolonged the one we had?
If JFK had not been shot he would presumably have ended the Viet Nam war, Johnson would not have become president which means you would not have had Johnson to push through civll rights. The 1964 civil rights bill got rhrough congress because you had Johnson pushing it through congress. Maybe the massive anti
war protests might have been replaced by much worse race riots?
Now presumably JFK would have served two terms, followed by RFK. Maybe no Nixon, no Watergate,
You could speculate alot about what would have happened if JFK RFK and MLK had not been shot, but it is only that speculation.
Now there are speculative fiction books written from the angle of what if such and such happened in history.
Now to bring it back to hair maybe if JFK had ended the war in his first term maybe long hair on men would have been much more common, as there would have been no draft and no mandatory haircuts in the military for draftees.
Finally if JFK and RFK had not been shot and the war ended in JfKs first term would they have followed the lead of others and grown their hair long? Would long hair become more acceptable as it would not have been tied to anti war protestors?
You could go on all day speculating would could have been
had JFk/RFK/MLK/Lincoln not been shot.
If I write a book someday that might be a good topic.
Hi LHIA,
Excellent points. You probably would write a great book.
Ted
My main point is that with Lincoln gone the Radical Republicans
were free to deal with the south as they wished and all they
wished was to punish the south, not rebuild the country. This is
what let to carpet baggers, the rise of the KKK etc.
Now to keep this on the subject of long hair, how can you tell
if a guy has long hair if he's wearing a sheet over his head?
Hi MG,
I would totally agree with this statement. Abraham Lincoln was quite the man.
