I went into one of our local supermarkets today and there was another guy there with long hair, he was probably a bit older than
me. (Maybe in his 60s?) He said "Must be old hippie day here at the store."
And then after that I went into a local eatery to pick up some lunch to go, there was another older guy with long hair. I'm 58 I would guess he was in his 70s and had hair half way down his back.
Both of them had hair tied in a pony tail, I had my hair loose.
And both times I was wearing my usual cut off shorts.
It was great seeing these older guys with long hair.
Now about three days ago I went into get food at a local sub shop, and there was another older guy with long hair. He said "I like your hair." He proably was close to my age.
Maybe this is the start of a trend with older guys growing their
hair long?
Well, I will be 62 in August and mine is almost reaching my belt line. Who knows?
Steve
Hi Steve,
I'll just jump in here and say that your hair is looking splendid Steve!
Ted
Thanks, Ted!
Steve
Hi LHIA,
I sure hope this is a trend! And I also hope it keeps going without stopping! I am getting awfully tired of the men all having the same basic hairstyle. I myself can't wait to get my hair to mid-back length! That's pretty cool for the other guys to acknowledge your hair. Long live long haired old guys! Way cool man!
Ted
Hi LHIA,
And your hair is also looking splendid!
Ted
Thank you. Your hair is looking good too.
Being as I am 62 and my hair is now at mid back length. i love to see other old farts with long hair. We always acknowledge the fact upon seeing one another, even if its just a nod. Age is just a number. but hair speaks volumes.
GI was in town for a few hours yesterday and I too noticed a number of older longhairs around.
Great news, unless we are being cloned!
I was at my college reunion last weekend and let me tell you that I was definitely NOT the oldest guy with long hair. There were some long haired guys from the classes of 83, 78, and 73.
However, I seemed to be the only one from my class (88) who still had long hair. It's kind of odd seeing all these guys who I remembered having long hair now with short hair.
Somebody brought a bunch of albums and yearbooks from the 1980s. Quite a number of guys grew their hair out in college. You'd see the freshman face book (note: lowercase f) where they'd be clean cut with short hair dressed in a suit and tie. Then by junior or senior year they'd be transformed into barefoot long-haired "hippies" in cut-off jeans.
Another common thing was to take two pictures at graduation: one with the hair tied back in a ponytail, and a second one with the hair down and loose flowing over the shoulders. I guess one was to send to all your conservative older relatives and the other was for everyone else.
I had started growing my hair in 1964, by the time I graduated high school I had waist length hair, so by then I resembled those barefoot long-haired "hippies" in cut-off jeans.
By the time I graduated from college my hair was knee length
and I still resembled those barefoot long-haired "hippies" in cut-off jeans.
And now many years later at the ripe old age of 58 I still resemble those barefoot long-haired "hippies" in cut-off jeans.
I got a notice in the mail that my high school class is having
it's 40th reunion. I'm still debating with my self as to whether I want to bother going. There are only two or three
classmates from high school that I kept in contact with after
high school graduation and that was only until the 80s in college. So for me i'm not sure it is worth it to go to the
reunion.
Old longhairs never die, they just gray away.
Howdy LHIA,
Yes, I do find it very cool when I come across older men who sport longhair at their advanced ages.I'm am slowly,or more likely quickly, approaching that exclusive fraternity.lol.I started growing my hair out for the very first time in my early 20s and it has remained long ever since!I knew back then that longhair was something I adored as it never was a fad for me unlike some.I realize circumstances in life force some guys to cut off their long manes so in that respect I feel very fortunate.I was in NYC at the Hell's Kitchen flea market one Saturday and spotted this gent with his magnificent mane.I managed to grab a picture of him to share with you all.Cheers and enjoy :)

OK, here is the right side up view:)
Outstandingly beautiful hair.... and the way I hope my mane looks one day, when it's all silver :) Beautiful!
Well, as I often tell people whenever someone asks me my age, "I'm 24 -- I just look like hell for it, must have lived a pretty hard life so-far!" (LOL)

I live in the SouthWest U.S. where living and dress is very casual. Long hair is readily accepted here and there are more older guys with longhair than younger ones. I travel a great deal in my work and always notice this when I return.
I am doing my part.....just turned 70. (but I still think I am 26 and look like Tom Cruise.....giggle)
Hi Walter and as always you are being just so modest about your twin brother Tom and how you look. But for age,70? No way! Here is how I did the math:
70-26=44. And then: Born on a Leap year, so: 44 divided by 4=11. Add up the months from the beginning of the year (6) and then we have the number 17. And last, add in the number of weeks of this month (4) and I arrived at the age of 21 for you. OMG.......you are so lucky and just starting life and all kinds of new adventures!
Well Walter, knowing all of this I guess I better spend some time trying to fix my Time Machine today so that I can equal your age. Alas, it is presently overturned in my Sandbox with the name "Goo-Goo" written in Finger Paint on the side. LOL :-)
Take care Walter and my best to you always-
Justin~
Two things:-
1) We're getting older;
2) Some guys are growing their hair when they retire - no damned boss to tell them to get a haircut!
Count me in as well! I turn 60 in August, and have had long hair most of my life, since the early 70s, and one short haired episode from late 1999 to early 2004.
David
Maybe! I just started growing mine out in December - I've got a long way to go, but hope I can stick with it, too.
