Tips for people who flat iron their hair.
The other day I had a very important event in my city and needed my hair to be as neat as possible. So I flat ironed my hair.
A lot of longhaireds are against this because it damages your hair, but I will try to give some tips for those who still flat iron their hair in order to avoid damage:
1 - Old flat irons come with a fixed heat temperature that cannot be changed. This means that when you use this type of flat irons, it heats up straight to 450 fahrenheit deegrees . This is the number one reason why lots of people say that flat irons damaged their hair. Simply because through years, a lot of flat irons came with a fixed temperature , so everyone - no matter what tupe of hair they had - used 450 deegrees on their hair.
Nowadays there are flat irons that you can choose which temperature you want. Some people will need certain temperature , others may need more heat, others less.. All depending on the type of hair and also, depending on how much damaged your hair is. So if you can buy one of these flat irons, it will be better.
2 - Using heat protectant is very important before you flat iron. If you apply heat directly to your hair, it will absolutely damage it. Not using heat protectant when you flat iron your hair is like having sex with no condom and you dont want your wife to get pregnant -basically haha- . Sorry for the example , but is VERY important for people to understand that applying heat protectant is a must when flat ironing.
3 - Check out the material that the plates are made of. Flat irons plates can be made of plastic, titanium, ceramic, tourmaline, others are made of plastic and coated with ceramic on top.
So , be sure you find out what the plates are made of before buying a new flat iron (or find out if the one you currently have is made of ceramic, titanium or what). This is important because some materials will help damage your hair .
Flat irons with plastic plates are TERRIBLE for hair. As well as the titanium ones. The best in the market right now are the ones made of 100% ceramic (check that they are 100% ceramic, not coated). Some of them are made of plastic and COATED with ceramic on top. Tourmaline is a new technology on flat iron plates and are the best also, they are less damaging.
4 - Do not flat iron every day. Professionals recommend not to flat iron your hair more than 3 times a week.
In my case, I dont flat iron every day because:
a- I don't need it.
b- Even if I needed it , I wouldnt do it because doing it every day damages hair.
c- I also do it every once in a while when I have an important ocassion and need my hair to be perfect.
d- If you are not very used to flat ironing your hair, it takes time so I am not willing to spend that much time doing that often haha.
5 - During the days you dont flat iron, take care of your hair, use oils and give it all the moisture you can in order to avoid damage.
I hope these tips help people ! And let me know what you think.

PS: Last night I went to this event that I mentioned , my hair was flat ironed - of course it looked longer - and received a lot of compliments from strangers.
A guy wanted to touch my hair to see if it was real or not haha So it made me feel great about me growing my hair.
