Alright! So my regular digital camera has finally given up the ghost, so these photos are taken with my laptop's built-in webcam. . .apologies for the quality. I had a topknot with dreadlocks until late summer of '09, then shaved it off. I started a neglect set of dreadlocks, until November of '11 when my wife spent a week detangling and combing them out. My hair was fairly damaged from that event, so she also did a small trim on my split-ends.
Now, midsummer '13, it looks like this (freshly rinsed and dried earlier today)
And the back
I use no shampoo or conditioner. . .once every couple of weeks I'll use home-brewed vinegar or kombucha to wash excess oil out of the hair. I use a vitamin E oil on the ends after rinsing, to help keep it detangled. Only doing thorough detangling when the hair is wet.
About a year ago I switched to a plant-based/whole-foods/wild-foraged diet, and cut out gluten. The year before that I stopped smoking cigarettes (though I do still enjoy a nice cigar whenever I can) . .the improvement in thickness and hair/scalp quality has been unbelievable. I don't mean to preach, but seriously :-D
Wow, your hair is AMAZING.
I had a friend with the same hair as yours - but his was blonde, very blonde -.
I wonder how long your hair would look when if its straight. I bet it should be way longer.
How longer are you planning to grow your hair?
Thank you kind sir.
That sounds amazing. A friend here in Norway has a son who is growing out his hair, and it is that platinum blonde as well. . .I can only imagine what it'd look like if it was also curly :-O
It reaches to just about 1/4-1/3 of the way down a shoulder-blade when wet or stretched out. I have been hesitant to use a flat-iron, but after reading your post on how to do it safely, I am reconsidering it...
For a good long while. I am sure that at some point I will end up with the dreadlocks again, but I'd like to see what my terminal length is first.

Please, if you decide to flat iron it send me a pic or post it somewhere. I'd love to see that ( Dont be afraid of doing it. Once in a while will not damage your hair haha)
Hi TBG,
Wow! This is just such a stunning update! You Have some seriously nice and curly hair! Your hair must be at least mid-back length if stretched out. I am happy to hear you stopped smoking! That is one of the best things aperson can do for their health. Of course, your diet is probably a big contributor to your hair's awesomeness. Please keep it growing as I would love to see your hair even longer!
Hope you have a wonderful week my friend! Stay well!
Ted
Yeah, and I feel so much better after quitting the cigs. . .and absolutely, I am going to keep it growing.
Thank you for the kind words,

Hey there Mr. Ball Guy,
That is one impressive head of curly hair you have, looks hands-down AWESOME!!
I applaud your ability to have and stick to such a strict healthy diet. I wish I had the self-discipline myself to eat more like what you just described; but since I cook for a living, I confess to enjoying a great variety of food way too much to imagine ever succeeding at something like that... But in any case, eating a lot of vegetables is at least something thank goodness that I do enjoy and encourage others to do as much as possible. What little success I've had at weight loss I definitely attribute to choosing to eat more plants over a heavy meat diet or certainly consuming highly processed foods.
Thanks for your post, very inspiring to see such a great head of hair!!!
