It's been a couple of years since I last did any cutting, but it seems to become necessary about that often. My hair gets longer, but not evenly. The unevenness and waviness of my hair combine to cause a huge tangling issue. It gets to the point where I spend over an hour each day detangling, which causes even more damage. I finally got fed up and cut the bad part off. I only removed about 4 inches, so my hair is still quite long, but the tangling is no longer an issue. Does anyone else develop this problem as they near terminal length?
Hi Michael,
I feel my hair has reached maximum length and haven't had a professional trim since 2005!lol.For the most part my tangle issues are minimal but then my hair is straight and I take precautions against tangling when outdoors.My newest method is to bun my hair, instead of wearing a ball cap,since I still want to show off my hair.On some occasions I'll wear it loose outdoors if its not hot/humid or windy.Your hair texture is likely different from mine but maybe you need to try beneficial oils on the ends.Cheers

Hi Michael,
That's unfortunate you have to spend so long detangling your hair. My hair is not stick straight, but I don't seem to have any tangling issues. That may change, but I hope not! I constantly comb my hair for fear of tangles. And I never touch my hair with brushes of any kind.
How long was your hair when the tangling became such an issue? Maybe you can just maintain at the length where the tangling isn't such an issue. It may not be as long as you want, but it's better than dealing with all the tangles.
Hope you have a wonderful week my friend! Please stay well!

My hair is about to the bottom of my shoulder blades now, but it was about 4-6 inches longer before I made my cut.
I think I'll do just what you suggested, at least for now. I'll maintain this length until my hair's health improves and the damage is grown out. At that point, I should be able to grow it longer again.
In a nutshell, Yes! That's why I do two important things in order to prevent myself from having to go into a salon to have a professional trim take place:
1) I regularly go on "Search & Destroy" missions, chasing after individual split hairs that need to be snipped off above where the problem area is;
2) applying beneficial oil into my hair ends (my preference being olive oil, but I've also used Kukui nut, Almond oil, and Jojoba in the past) has really helped cut down on the dry, damaged, and split ends.
I replied to another user here about this very same topic -- as I remember, I think it was Ted's post about poofiness... Just scroll down the page a bit to where you see my titled reply re. Olive oil to read more details of what I'm talking about...
Hope that helps!
