.... What a straightening iron and some extra strong hold gel can do!
Quite a difference than my usual mophead! :D
Your hair looks amazing Raul - with or withouth flat iron-!
But hey, check if that gel you are using contains water. If it does, then stop using it after flat ironing. You're not supposed to use any product with this ingredient after flat ironing. If you want to keep the flat iron effects as long as possible try using oils or other products that do not contain water. If not, all the effort you put in flat ironing will go to hell because water reverts your hair to "normal" state.
Hey Dave!
The gel I am using does include aqua, but the funny thing is that while I constantly complain about my wavy hair, I kinda' like the wave on the top of my head, as it gives it a much fuller, flowing look, so I slick it back on top and sides, and only straighten the back.
Great tip though, thanks!
And thank you, of course! A great compliment from a dude with such lovely hair as yourself, Dave :)
Hi Raul,
I think your hair would look great without the straightening and gel! Do you always straighten your hair and apply gel? I believe when your hair gets closer to being one length and has sufficient length, you might not need the gel anymore. Don't get me wrong, you always take great pics and I really like your hair either way! At least you don't have a bunch of white hairs growing at the very front on each side! I may have to start coloring my hair! And I'll take your mophead any day! Please keep it growin' and flowin' buddy!
Ted
By the way, I really like that ring you are wearing. Way cool man!
Heya Ted! :)
Thanks bud! I actually do use both gel and the straightening iron at least 3-4 times a week, being as I exercize as many times a week, and I cannot do without washing my hair that is all sweaty and with product in it after the gym.
I am sure that once I get to a more even shoulder length, I will be able to start using these products less and less, eventhough I am pretty determined to either keep straightening the tips, or just plain finding a permanent treatment for it.
Here's how I look today, at the moment... washed my hair yesterday, and only applied argan oil and brushed it with my BBB.
Fluffy as f*ck, but at least it's soft and nice to the tuoch, hehe.
Hi Raul,
I think your hair looks just great here! I really don't see a lot of curl. I am happy to hear you are exercising frequently. That is great for your health. I have to just deal with my wavies because I am too lazy to use a straightening iron and all those products! I just hope when I hit waist length my hair straightens on its own.
You have to do what you want and need to do with your hair. I just know when you get longer lengths you will be content with your hair. As usual, this is a wonderful pic of you! I hope you have a wonderful week my friend!
Ted
Oh, and I forgot to remind you that I hold the title of Official Mophead around here! Hehe.
Ted
Raul,
From what I've read on this board you might want to be cautious
with the straightening iron.
Also very cool looking ring. I like rings to go along with my
long hair.
Thanks for the compliments and the warning, I am VERY aware of the consensus here regarding the flat iron... doing my best with protective serums, repairing masks and argan oil to be counter-productive and help it regain humidity :)
Yeah, I love wearing rings, as well as earring, bracelets and chains... a bit of an oddball perhaps, but it has always worked for me, hehe.
Maybe you could try natural, or just with argan oil?
You are not the only oddball then. My philosophy is that being
wild and crazy with my appearance is basically harmless and a lot
less destructive than being wild and crazy with drugs or alcohol.
Hi Raul,
Hmmmm, you are quite the "greaser"but can understand the logic behind you doing that at this stage.Fortunately once the length increases you can cease and desist on doing that to your hair;)lol.Anyway always cool hearing from you and hoping your weekend has been a good one my friend.Cheers
Mârk
Heya Mark!
Yeah, I do believe that once I will start getting more length, the usage of the gel will stop almost completely, and the straightening iron.. well, that shall remain to be seen ;)
From what I can remember from around 2008 or so, the first stage I will reach will be being able to gather the hair on the top of my hair into a "Ned Stark" half ponytail, then a full ponytail, and from the there on, the fight with the curls will be full on, hehe...
Thanks for the kind words, my friend, and here's to a GREAT week on! =)
Hey Raul :-)
Your hair is looking great and I am to see that you are having fun with it and doing your own thing. Fun is what hair should be all about. Take care-
Justin~
(Sorry Raul, I was typing so fast I left out a word.) "GLAD"
Hey Justin!
Appreciate the positive tone in your message, as always!
Yeah, I am getting some flack here for being a 'greaser' and for flattening my hair, but this is really just a way to get through the awkward stage, and to make me feel good about the way my hair looks, so as you are saying, that is the entire purpose- having fun :)
Sure is important Raul. What good is growing long hair if it is to torment someone? It isn't. Absolutely and the same goes for any hairstyle. It is a fun thing and the person is happy inside as to how their hair looks and really enjoys.
All the best-
Justin~
Couldn't have said it better myself, buddy! :)
And I understand the whole anti flat iron thing on the forum here, since most people are interested in reaching extremely long lengths and dread at the idea of harming the hairstraws, thus impending the potential of growth... me? I am thinking shoulderblade length for now, but it won't be helping anybody if I am getting there and am not happy with the way it looks, right? Better to straighten it a bit than to cut it all off after 2-3 years of work, me thinks ;)
Thanks for the positive outlook, as always! And had I not been such an atheist, I would say GOD BLESS, my friend ;) Take care!
Very Nice! I've done a very similar look the past few months, but I got tired of what you mentioned...after the gym especially the way it felt with all the gel and stuff was just gross. I have actually been letting my hair do its own thing the past several weeks, some days its super annoying and some days its ok.
Have fun experimenting and let me know what else you try, I may try it too :)

Hey Tommy!
I can completely relate to the whole tons of gel while working out thing... it melts and drips down the forehead and neck, and ain't no pretty sight, hehe... that is why I am trying to use just a little bit, alot less than what you might assume from the picture, just to keep the front of the hair going backwards, and not straight into my eyes.
At the same time, I have quite a bit more wave than you, and by the time I am done with an hour or two at the gym, mr. mophead is back in action! Tough, but a man's gotta' do what a man's gotta' do, eh? hehe :D
Keep up the great work man, we are closing in on a year! :D
Hi Raul,
Congrats to you on your continued progress, and your hair is looking good. Imagine where you will be with another year of growth!
Keep it growing,
David
I like you ring. Where did you get it . Thanks.
