Hello, my longhaired brothers! Almost 2 years passed since I last had a haircut. I started from a short buzz-cut and didn't have a single trim since then.
Decided to make an update on how my hair looks right now.
I must say that an attitude to my long hair changed a bit. Firstly lots of people told me I should get a haircut. Now the situation is a bit different. There are people who love how my hair looks like and support me, and there are those who hate it.
I'm a programmer and I'm a bit into music, so I don't look too much outrageous. Many people say that I look like a typical guitar-player with my hair loose, worn jeans and a gig-bag behind shoulders. Have got nothing about such complaints :)
I'm wearing my hair loose almost all the time as it's the most comfortable and natural way for me. I enjoy feeling how the wind plays with my hair, so just can't make myself tame it when outside :) By the way, I got my BS-degree this year, and I decided not to tame my hair when defending my final project in front of an independent commitee. I didn't notice any prejudice, as I got my A mark.
So... Here it is.
I made some photos with my hair from different sides. So please, look at the other my photo-posts among replies to this topic.
Thanks!
Serge.
GREAT SHOT! love it...
Awesome picture, buddy! :D
You've got a beautiful head of hair, Serge - congratulations on your progress and your degree! My son is about 6 months behind you in your hair growth. His looks great and he has been my inspiration for finally making a serious attempt to grow mine out. So, you young guys are making serious influences by going your own way in life!
Wow! It's always great to see that some parents can be really supportive and are even opened for different ideas!
I just searched for your photos here, and I must say I'd be interested in seeing you with a longer hair!
Thank you for your great comment!
Serge.
\ I just started growing mine out - haven't had a hair cut since December...
Just wonderful Serge! I love it!
Ted
Hey Serge, first of all thanks for the awesome update photos:)It's almost hard to believe just two years ago you had a buzz cut and can only imagine how different that made you look overall.Well my taste has always been long hair for men as it just gives them a softer, more approachable appearance if you can picture that:)Your hair is identical to mine as we longhairs with straight hair have may advantages such as easier to brush out and longer length faster since we have no curls.I'm happy to hear you do get positive comments to offset the negative ones being too much negativity often discourages the longhaired guy into thinking he should go back to short again:( Well your hair is FABULOUS my friend:)Oh, and congratulations on your degree as that's a great accomplishment. So enjoy that and your mane and please do check back in with us as your a great inspiration:)Cheers
Mârk
Hey Mârk, greatly thanks for your nice comment! Yeah, I've just looked at my pics from a few years ago - the difference is so much noticeable :) And I don't want to come back. At least, not now. I love being a long-haired. It's a part of what I am. And I'm not going to stop yet, and probably will grow for some more time.
By the way, seen your photos in some of your messages addressed to Michael earlier on the board. Your hair looks sooo great! Oh, and the beard. I know that you used hena for your hair. Do you use it for your beard too? The color of your beard seemed so much similar to your hair color :)
Thanks again!
Serge.
Hi Serge,
Thanks for your reply and its good to hear that your want to continue your longhair journey:)I'm sure it will be a blast for you.As for your question to me the answer is yes,I also henna my beard so it matches my hair:)Didn't do it originally when I first started doing henna but later incorporated it into my touch up treatments:) Hope your having a fabulous day my friend.Cheers

Serge.

John
Thank you for such a great comment, John! I don't often get nice comments, and I do appreciate yours! Yes, I'm going to let it grow for some more time and then I'll just let my freak flag fly :)
Thanks!
Serge.
Hi Serge,
How nice it was to see your fantastic update this morning! I must say your hair is just looking awesome! You have made really good progress from a buzz cut! I don't think you look typical at all. I don't like when people stereotype others based on long hair. And as far as the people who complain of your hair, they deserve no response. It's your hair and that's all that matters! They are probably just envious!
I am so happy to hear you wear your hair loose all the time. That's the way I am going to wear mine also. I am not going to hide my hard work and patience! Congratulations on the BS degree! That is awesome- a longhaired guy with a degree! That shows the complainers that long hair has nothing to do with nothing! Keep up the great work!
Hope you have an awesome weekend my friend! Please take care of yourself!
Ted
Hello, Ted! I'm always so happy to read your messages! Firstly, thank you for your compliment! Now, after two years of growing, I can't even believe I lived 19 years with a really-really short buzz-cut. I wanted to grow my hair since my early teen- years, but I was so much dependant on society's opinion! University atmosphere helped me to defeat some of my complexes, and here I am :)
Concerning stereotypes. I noticed that some people somehow feel comfortable when they think they can categorize everyone. It's wrong, yes, but they continue doing it.
By the way, about fun things. In recent days one of my female friends asked me to lend her my hair. It sounded pretty fun :)
Concerning my BS. I'm not even going to stop yet! Just a week ago I successfully passed exams and got a chance to keep studying to get a master's degree! Huh, hope everything goes fine with it.
Thank you, Ted, really! I wish you a great and safe week to!
Serge.
Wow. That looks terrific! And to think from a buzz cut to your hairs present length in only 23 months. Fabulous! Best of luck to you with the long hair.
Justin~
Thank you, Justin! I must say I'm really thankful to both you (because of your inspirational videos) and MLHH! This commnunity is really supportive and informative, and there are so many great open-minded people here!
Thanks!
Serge.
Hey Serge!
Awesome hair, Dude!
Like you, I had a buzz cut (guage 4) when I had my last haircut on Mar. 9, 2011. I have not had a haircut or a trim in the last twenty-seven (27) months. My bishop said that my hair was falling in my face and it could prove to be a distraction to people who may concentrate on the hair in my eyes rather than on what I am saying. He asked me if I wasgetting my hair trimmed. I told him that I was not. I told him that the hair in the front of my head is just not quite long enough to reach to the back of my head in order to get caught in the tie forming my ponytail. I bought a can of hair spray in order to hold the loose hairs in place so that I might appear professional and kempt. I usually wear my hair in a ponytail and I try to keep the ponytail under the back of my collar so that my hair is less obtrusive to those who ob ject to a man having long hair. Like you, I like to wear my hair loose and let it fly freely. I really like it when the wind blows my hair. I am beginning to feel my hair touch my traps and shoulders. It is an awesome, sensual feeling. Maybe, you can relate? Like you, I don't want to cut my hair soon, like never. I would like to let it grow to terminal length.
Your hair looks totally beautiful. I hope that you decide to let it grow to terminal length.
Congrats on earning your BS degree.
Like you, I feel that my hair is part of my identity. I think that I have wanted to let my hair grow long for my entire life. People told me that girls had long hair and boys had short hair. At fifty-five (55), thanks to the insiration of this hyperboard I decided to take the plunge and let my hair grow out. I like it and I feel differently about myself. I feel greater self-esteem and a kinship with other long-haired bros. There are some who make negative comments and want to associate me with certain groups because of my long hair? What do you do?
Anyway, I think your hair looks great; keep it growing. It would be cool if you and I could connect someday.
Your long-haired bro,
Raymond

Your hair is looking good. What it your goal length?

Hello Serge!
Dude, this may come off really funny sounding, but if there was ONE dude here I would kill for his hair, it would have to be YOU! :D Hehehe... and I mean that in the most friendly, non psycho way possible, you have AMAZING hair!
Both the dirty-blonde color, the fine complexity and the very slight wave on the otherwise perfeclty straight hair... damn dude, you are one lucky guy! :) LOVE IT!
Congrats on the BS, and it's wonderful to hear that even in Russia (I belive it was Russia, not the Ukraine?), which is typically a bit more conservative, you are being accepted for what and who you are, a smart dude with great hair! :)
Again, LOVE IT!
Looks absolutely great man. Congrats on the recent degree as well.

Can't wait for your hair to get longer to see how it looks !
Hi Serge,
Thank you for sharing your most excellent update, and congrats on achieving such good growth in 23 months. Your hair looks great, and I will be looking forward to your future progress. Keep up the good work!
Keep it growing,
David
Hey there, your hair looks awesome. can you post a chronological photos showing the progress of your hair from buzz-cut? i'm kind of looking for inspiration on how to deal with my one-length bob hair now (i'm a little bit above chin-length bob hair) as i can't have my hair in ponytail yet and this annoys me. hope you can post it someday?
