Hey there,
I used to have really long hair for almost 10 years. And i am hispanic so it was quite dense and a bit curly. I had a good dishevelled/rugged look going on. I think if anything it made me look more manly and slightly older (i'm 25).
I cut off all of my hair to a number 2 on the razor for a government/uniform career about 18 months ago. And after 18 months of 'getting used to it' i still hate it.
Having long hair really suited me, my friends preferred it, the ladies preferred it, i looked more handsome and it suited my quite liberal/alternative personality. I have decided that i would rather just grow my hair long again even if it means finding a different career, as i feel that it was a massive mistake cutting it off and i feel like i have sacrificed a part of me.
I've started growing it again, but its currently just over 1 inch long. What are the best things that i can do to get my hair to grow out as fast as possible?
And i know that this can be a silly question, but how long do you reckon it will take to grow out to the start of ponytail length (10 inches roughly)??
Cheers
Marcus
1/2 inch per month of growth means it will take about 20
months.
The best way to grow your hair is to not cut it.
Agreed... it will be about half an inch per month, give or take a fraction of that. Your growth rate is determined by your DNA. You cannot speed it up. That being said, you can take steps to keep it healthy, which limits the amount of breakage you will experience. Keeping breakage to a minimum means the hair will retain its growth instead of losing some ground along the way, which gives the appearance of faster growth. So keeping your hair healthy is the best way to reach your desired length as quickly as possible. Nobody can advise you on exactly what that means, as everyone's hair is different. You can experiment with different shampoos, conditioners, oils, and even frequency of washing. Personally, I avoid silicone-based products unless my current hair style involves the use of irons or other heat-generating instruments (the 'cones' act as an insulator and protect the hair), I don't comb while my hair is wet, and gently separate tangles with my fingers rather than a comb. I never use a brush, and use multiple hair ties to keep my hair from tangling when I sleep.
Good luck and keep us updated!
As long as you keep up with your diet, exercise, use the products suited best for your hair and do the little things such as scalp massaging and waiting, it'll grow as fast as it can. Give it about 1 year and 3/4 andit'll probably just be at the ponytail spot.
Hi Marcus,
Welcome to the board first of all! It sounds to me like you are supposed to be a long haired guy! I am sure your hair will look awesome when it's longer again. I would definitely keep it growing since you feel like you have sacrificed a part of yourself. And you have!
The best way to get your hair to grow as fast as possible is to not cut it. Of course, you already know that. I have had some people suggest Mane and Tail shampoo and conditioner. They tell me it makes the hair grow faster. I think a person's genes control a lot of our hair growth. Hopefully you have great genes for supernatural growth! I think 10 inches will take you about 18 months roughly.
Please keep your hair growing and flowing! Great rest of the weekend to you my friend!
