I coworker of mine is originally form Iraq He is Christian and fled Iraq many years ago. Recently he asked me, sincerely, How long I have had long hair. I explained "Since about 1964, It has been various lengths but never shorter than shoulder length. He than complimented me on my Tail and admitted he always wanted long hair. but in his culture it was not allowed. It is considered unmanly and fmeinine. and any male sporting such hair, even a visitor form another country, is laible to be taunted, or worse. He has MPB so he will not grow it out even now. I told him Hair is a matter of personal taste and is an exercise in freedom. He understood that point. Amazing stories have heard. We do not have any idea what it is like to NOT have the freedoms we bandy about so loosely, here.
I can imagine the resistance to longhair on men in many countries around the world, especially Iraq. There I wouldn't be surprised if it was punishable by death or if your lucky only a forced haircut. In spite of all the recent revelations about cyber snooping on the American public we still have more freedom here than any other country in the world. There was a reason soldiers died in past wars and that would be to preserve our hard fought for freedom.Cheers

What on earth makes you think that, Mark? How many other countries have you lived in for any length of time?
I've lived in the USA, in Canada, in France and in the UK. The USA sure didn't seem any freer than the others - and in some ways less free.
Iraq must be a whole different story though!

Most Americans think that because they constantly get told it.
Most of the Amendments to the US Constitution are rights that we have in England, and had back then. Where do they think they got them from? And the fact that they are Amendments tells you they were almost missed out, LOL!
Totally right, Alun. Americans get told that so often they actually end up believing it.
Freedom is hard to measure but the US never comes top of any list.

Hi Jason,
Very interesting story! I am saddened he won't grow his hair because of the MPB. This story definitely makes us aware of how we are fortunate to live in a free country. I am ever thankful to our men and women in the armed forces who make sacrifices for our freedom. Hopefully one day oppression throughout the world will be eradicated.
Great week to you my friend!
