Do most of you guys think it is overkill to have both long hair and a full beard? With this insane heat I'm thinking of either shaving my beard off or possibly getting my hair cut off a few inches or layered (thinned out?). Dallas
I don't think it's overkill. Personally, I think it's cool. I too had a full beard but I shaved my cheeks and under my chin, so now it's a thin beard.
Thanks for the comments guys... My beard and hair are both very thick and hot especially at work (construction). I think I will try to just keep my hair pulled back and shave my big beard off as it grows back pretty fast. Thanks. Yes a thick beard can get very hot.
Given the choice between which one gets the slicing due to the heat, I'd definetly can the beard, dude! Layering your hair won't make it any cooler either. Cranial hair all the way! Plus, it takes less time for a beard to grow (I think).
well, omaha is probably cooler than dallas, but it does get pretty hot. today it was 104f. i just put up with it. (of course my beard is not nearly as "full" as some.)
I wouldn't be so sure. I moved to Texas during the heat wave of 1980. At the time we drove through, it was either 117 or 119 in Nebraska, and Dallas only got up to 113 that year. This is the only time I've ever been in a car when it was cooler to have the windows rolled up! (we had no air conditioning)
Overkill? Hair is the divine destiny of men! Grow it where you got it baby!

Absolutely not. If you don't normally tie your hair back, putting it in a ponytail or braid and getting it off your neck will make a huge difference.
I personally have long hair and a big long beard, and frankly I don't feel it makes any difference when the weather is warm, *other* than when my un-restrained hair covers my neck.

Never thought of that and probably won't think of it anymore. Personally, I've found that if I tail my hair, I don't have the heat issues that I would if it's loose.

I would think twice about shaving the beard, because when I was a maintenance worker sealing asphalt, I found it easier to keep the beard and bear the heat, rather than deal with the temperature adaptation and awkward stage of regrowing a beard. Plus, having both hair AND the beard during summer shows impressive dedication!
