Just wondering does coloring damage to any major degree. I have been coloring for a year or two, as my hair gets longer I tend to notice the gray a lot more. And I just dont like gray on me lol.. What is your advice on coloring thanks Mike
The only coloring agent that won't damage your hair is henna (or other plant dyes) that you buy from a high quality dealer like Mehandi.com. Chemical dyes fry your hair, and much of what's sold as henna isn't. If your hair is light-colored and you just want to cover the gray, blond henna (which is actually Cassia obovata) will give the gray hair a yellow tone without a major hair color change.
There's always some risk for damage(however minor) with synthetic dyes, but in general darker colors are gentler on you hair than lighter colors and semi-permanent color is gentler than permanent. As long as you aren't perming your hair or bleaching it blonde you'll probably be alright. Just be sure to apply ample conditioners and/or oils at any sign of dryness.

I'm 58 years old and my long hair has a boatload of grey. I fully intend to not only keep my long hair long but to also keep my hair
it's natural color, be it all grey or all white.
For me all that grey hair represents all the people who told me
in past years that i needed to get a haircut.
God not only gave me the ability to grow my hair but also the ability to grow all that grey hair. So I fully intend to take
him up on that God given ability to grow my hair back to terminal length and to have it remain it's natural color which
right now is mostly all grey and will remain taht way for the
foreseeable future.
YMMV. What you do with your hair is entirely up to you,
i'd caution that some hair colorings will damage your hair.
Othes on this board can fill you in the details on that.
... 2 colour OR not 2 colour = 'THAT IS THE QUESTION' !!! ...
Hi Mike,
I would just agree with Dale. Make sure you always use conditioner when you notice dryness in your hair. Or you could use Henna like Mark does. The Henna is much better for your hair.
As for me, I wish my hair would hurry up and turn all gray. I have this crazy ugly light brown color with some gray in it. But I am going to let it do it on its own. My main thing is that it keeps growing! The color is secondary.

I, too, don't want to be grey myself--no problem with others' choices, it's just not my choice. So, I've been coloring my hair for years. When I tore a rotator cuff and had to wear a sling for six weeks I asked my stylist to do it, and I will never go back. She uses better products than the boxed stuff you can buy. More importantly, after the initial color she only has to paint the roots every 4-6 weeks, not keep coloring the whole head. Yes, I know you can buy home kits to do that but that has to be terribly hard to do, especially the back of the head. I compare it to washing your car by hand while you are still in it, and doing the back of the car looking in the rear view mirror!
So you'll never go back to this stylist who colored your hair?
Even though she uses better products? And can do the back of your head?
