Hi, I have really dry hair and it only starts feeling soft or silky 3-4 days after shampooing, but i rarely dont shampoo this long. Some ppl have said that they shampoo only once in a week or two but im afraid my hair will just get filthy or scruffy looking after such a long time of not washing. Would substituting conditioner for shampoo for the two weeks help to keep my hair clean and does conditioner also strip hair of its natural oils?
My experience with shampoo suggests that no matter how oily the hair, or mild the shampoo, it always strips ALL the oil. It may not be that way for everyone. My hair also, after 3-4 days, feels really oily and is more managable but after awhile it gets to the point where I can't stand it, and I wash it and theres NO oil left. I have not found a conditioner that works for me either. I usually plan ahead and wash my hair a few days before an event that I want it to look good. As for substituting conditioner for shampoo I dont know. For me it seems to have the same oil-stripping property that shampoo does, but I may be using the wrong products.
I have an other real big problem. The day I shampooed my hair it is very dry until I go to bed. When I wake up my hair is so oily that I have to wash it again. What to do?
You want to cream rinse (condition) everyday to keep it clean without stripping it but shampoo only once or twice a week (deep clean) depending on your hair type and activity level.
I use Aussie Moist conditioner which seems to work the best for me everyday. Aussie Slip is also very good for an everyday rinse and detangler.
Give that a try and let us know how it's going in a few weeks.

...When you DO shampoo, use VERY LITTLE. Pofessionals recommended
using just enough to clean but NOT enough to make suds!
I've tried that and it doesn't dry out my hair.
If your hair is still dry, try Frizz-Ease serum
Don't use anything except water. Shampoo strips-out everything hair needs (remember hair's natural oils prevent head-lice and such better than anything else).
Shampoo is a very recent invention, though herbs and other natural products have been used throughout the ages. The best product for hair is water, so the natural oils do their job. It takes about fifty days for the natural oils to do their stuff, and hair can look pretty strange until that happens.
I have curly hair down to the middle of my back, and have spent tons of cash on hair-care products, until I read that natural oils do it better.
Now, I don't know how straight hair reacts to this, but I bet people had straight hair prior to the advent of shampoo...
