When I had my last trim, the hairdresser told me I would have to come back in a month to cut off two inches more, because apparently my hair was a little bit damaged and it would split up all to the roots. She recommended me to come back in a month or so. Needless to say, I never visited that hair salon again, but one thing I would liek to know is, what can you do about split ends if you don't cut it?
I accidently said that I have to come back in a month twice in my last message. Meh, I should have paid more attention to what I write.
Coz you were so annoyed by her so obvious and transparent commercial ploy!!! :)
I would be too. She clearly wasn't really interested in your hair, just interested in making more money out of you. I'm glad you had the sense to not go back.
I don't seem to get split ends. No idea why not. So I can't really advise you on how to deal with them.

Indeed. Even back then, when I wasn't so educated on the matter, I could see that she was jus trying to get money out of me.
So am I, but it was somewhat obvious and I wouldn't have visited that hair salon again, because......as I know myself, I would have forgotten about that.
I see....Anyway, thanks for taking the time out of your day to respond to my thread.
Hi Michail,
Well I'd just like to reinforce what Damon said regarding that stylist as I too feel she is just trying to get you in her regular rotation of clients so as to achieve maximum profit. If you listened to her your hair would never get very long at all.Be like taking one step forward, then two backwards!
As for split ends I don't get many of those but I know its been said the "seek and destroy" method works well.Best to do it where the sun shines through a window so as to examine the ends in that kinda light. Then use a tiny pair of scissors to "nip" the end just below the split.Just do this on the hairs with splits, not all of it.After all at best your just trimming a quarter inch off to eliminate the split.I've heard this advice given by our own Ken in SF so this is what he does to deal with them:)Hope this helps my friend.Cheers.

Hey Mark,
Absolutely correct. It doesn't even make sense from a scientifical point of view. Cutting rarely ever improves the condition of your hair, unless you have seriously damaged hair, which is not the case with me.
Yeah, Iwas curious ever since Ken mentioned it the first time. I will have to try it and even if that doesn't help as much as I thought it would, I wouldn't lose much or at least not as much as what I would lose if I ever let a hairdresser anywhere near my hair.
Thanks a lot, Mark.
Hi Michail,
Ha! The salon lady recommended you to come ack so she could cut more off! However, I do believe these butchers of hair know just how much to take off to keep you coming back!
As far as the split ends, I probably wouldn't worry too much about it unless you brush your hair wet or do other damaging things to your hair. Or if you just have a tendency to develop them. If you do develop them, I would find a very trusted hair trimmer9notice I said trimmer not butcher) to carefully trim them. Hope this helps!

Hey Ted
Exactly. I knew she that was the reason she wanted me to come back, even though I didn't understand that much about hair anyway. I will take care of that myself, because apparently I'm the only one I can trust.
It's just that from the time I used to blow dry it and also rub it with a towel roughly, it has taken some damage from it, even though you can't really see it on the pictures. But I'm working on improving the condition. The split ends are something I never cared about, until it was too and I did have to cut 2 inches off, which was roughly one year ago. I should have better taken care of it, but at least I learned something out of it.
Thanks a lot, Ted.
Hi Michail,
When I dry my hair I lightly pat it with the towel. I think it causes some damage if you rub your hair with the towel. Not sure if it causes splitends though.

.
I see no need for any sort of regular trim schedule unless you want to maintain a particular length. However, I'll I can say the best my hair ever looked was right after cutting about 6 inches off. It had been elbow length and was more dry and straggly toward the ends. After the cut it just left the well-conditioned sleek stuff and looked really nice. But don't fall for that hairdresser trim talk. Remember their livelihood doesn't come from helping you grow your hair out. It only comes from cutting it.
Of course I'm not going to fall for that. This is something I would have probably done more than half a year ago or so, since I didn't know much about the matter back then. But not now.
