My hair doesn't grow all around my hair evenly (darn genes)and I got fed up with it so asked my sister to shave it off. I used a beard trimmer, big mistake seeing how the guards were extremely short; sizes 1,2, and 3(used this one). I talked about this earlier this year in the forum and bit the bullet and asked my sister to shave it off. All the hair shaved off was only about 1 inch max and was straggly/nappy and very unappealing. When she did it the hair covered about 2 inches all around my ear and now it looks sort of weird to me. You can't really tell when my hair is down, but when I put it up to work or workout it looks like I'm a sumo wrestler as I am a pretty big dude. It is more or less a undercut look but not as drastic as doing the entire back and sides. By the way, I'm at the 23rd month of growing and think 'm way past my desired length and am considering to cut some length down my back so my front hair could catch up. May post a pic of it later.
Impossible to visualise wha youm mean.
Hi trill,
Everybody has a different appearance they want to project. If those hairs are bothering you by all means get rid of them. At 23 months of growth you must have a great looking mane! Yes, a picture would be most helpful to illustrate what you mean. I can, however, visualize what you're talking about here. I can tell you that I trim my sideburns even with the top of my ears. This is because I find my eyeglasses fit better that way. I never cared for sideburns anyway.
You can do microtrims of the back to allow the front to catch up. Many people do this when they are growing their hair out from a shorter cut. This keeps the hair from looking like a mullet. This is what's so fun about growing our hair. Everybody has differnt hair and genes so they do different routines. Please keep your hair growing and flowing my friend!

Trill - I think your hair looks pretty awesome that way. I hope you won't cut the rest of it, but no way did you ruin it. Of course, I don't know what it looked like before you cut it, but if it was bothering you the way it was, you sure haven't ruined it in any way. I'll bet you are the kind of guy that can pull this off with no problem...
The area shaved off shown in the second picture is where I believe the terminal length was about a 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches in length. The area shaved hasn't grown past these lengths in the 23 months I have been growing my hair. Some people actually complimented my hair at work today saying it looked nice.
Hi trill,
Wow! I sure am happy you decided to post pics of your hair! I am having serious hair envy over here! Your hair looks fantastic and i don't think you have made it look bad at all. If you don't like the way it looks just wait and it will grow back, as you know. I sure hope you don't cut too much off. I can see in the back how it is longer in the middle. My hair does the same thing if I just let it grow without trimming. I believe those are called fairy tale ends. Looks great please keep it growing my friend!
Ted
Thanks Ted my Mom even likes it shaved like this too. She says it looks neat and cleaner this way. As I told Raul, I think I will refrain from shaving it entirely next time and just get a slight trim from time to time to keep it neat. The funny thing is when I first started regrowing from scratch was when a barber gave me a huge undercut and I only had 1 year of growth at the time. It didn't look as nice as it does now and the overall look didn't appeal to me.
Hi trill,
Whatever you do, please never cut your wonderful hair! I am inspired! Great week to you my friend!
Ted
Hey trill!
Thanks for posting that picture, makes everything a lot clearer! :)
I think your hair looks really great and the ear area looks nice and tidy, but as you said, it looks like the start of an undercut, something that is rather tough to maintain without progressively going deeper and deeper up the temple, so if it was me, I would let it grow all natural there too :)
Either way, hair looks awesome, as said earlier, hope you decide to keep it! =)
Thanks for the feedback Raul, I noticed you had posted some pictures of yourself with an undercut before you started growing your hair from scratch again. I think I will keep it lightly trimmed this time when it grows out and shy away from shaving it entirely.
Hey again Trill!
I actually misunderstood the placement of the cut in the initial post, as I thought you were speaking of the back of the ear and the upper neck area.
Either way, I am rather conscious about the choice to start trimming anything at all, as I know a slight undercut might become a much larger one with time, and I will end back exactly where I started in mid 2012 ;)
This is a picture of me from that time with my hair set up, actually. Funny thing is that since the har on the back of the head was completely shaved, I could get to a "ponytail" alot quicker than I ever could now, with more months of growth in my pocket :)
Wow Raul, you did have an extreme undercut back then. Maybe that's
why you are leery of undercuts. Mine is much lower than what you
had.
Hi Raul,
This is yet another great pic of you! Just sayin'!
Ted
Sorry Raul I beg to disagree. There is no need to keep going
higher up the temple unless whoever is doing it is extremely
careless. With care he should be able to maintain that indefinitely.
I see your point, MG. I guess I am just not a fan of the undercut anymore. But I am sure it can work out with care and patience :)
Kind of looks like a very low undercut. Looks OK to me, kind of
cool actually.
I don't think it looks bad. I've actually been contemplating doing something similar, as my hairs in that area are super scraggly and very short. When my hair does get longer, I was actually considering trimming the very similar neck hairs and keeping them short because they look all sorts of weird!
