Just wanted to stop by and say hi. I am a doctor in Pittsburgh, where I have lived for the past 15 years who also happens to be a longhair. I grew my hair out as part of a "midlife crisis" according to my family, but really enjoy it. To all those who say you can't have long hair and be professional and successful I say yeah right! The irony of this is that I actually get compliments on my hair from patients! Continue on everyone.

Hi Jeremy, welcome to our community here:) That's very cool knowing your a doctor with longhair....and in Pittsburgh!LOL.Go figure:) Well I always felt its never too late to become a longhair so whenever you embark on that journey can't be soon enough.Your hair looks fabulous with great color and texture:)What are your plans for length or are you sticking with what you have now?I suppose there are some limits being you are a doctor but that's a wonderful mane my friend!Cheers

I totally agree, Jeremy. I am a dentist in Florida with the same experience as you. My hair is just a little longer than yours. Keep it going. SJ
Hi SJ,
I just wanted to thank you for growing your hair out and being a dentist. That's way cool man! Seems like society has this preconceived notion that "professional" men should have "short hair parted on the side". I say pooey to that! Rock on good dentist! Great week to you my friend!
Ted
Great looking hair, and even more so on a doctor! Welcome to the board, Doc! =)
Your hair looks great! Hopefully you will change some minds out there about long hair not being professional =)

Welcome to MLHH, Jeremy. Your hair is really thick and full. What is your goal length?

Hey Doc Jeremy:
I can see why you get compliments from your patients. This picture shows you've got great hair - why not enjoy it longer? Bravo!
I work in a senior center - I am surprised at the number of people who have made positive comments about me growing my hair out... It seems I thought I might get some flack, but so far not one person has made a negative comment and I've got some compliments from both the men and the women...
Glad you joined us - look forward to hearing more from you and some more pics if you decide to share them, too.
Hi Doc,
I am so happy to see a doctor with beautiful long hair like yours! The color and waviness is very admirable and your tail looks just lovely! Very nice to see that you are going against the grain and letting your hair grow! Nothing wrong with having a little mid-life crisis! I think that's very cool you get compliments from your patients! Seems like you're attracting good patients to you. Please keep it growing good doctor! Have a great week my friend!
Ted
I was in for a routine physical last month and they asked if a student doctor could do a first-run exam before my actual doctor. I agreed to it. About halfway through, he started asking me about my hair! I was surprised but pleased that he took an interest. He asked me how long I had been growing it and said that it was "impressive".
He happened to have fabulous hair with great potential and a total waste to be short. It almost seemed like a light bulb went off in his head. Perhaps he'll grow it out at some point. If not during his intership, maybe once he's more established.
Hi Jason,
I just read your post. And you reminded me of a visit I had to the VA hospital. I had to go and have my dialysis catheter taken out. The radiologist that took it out was an Asian young doctor with the nicest straight, thick ponytail. His hair was probably at least mid-back length. It was very cool and I complimented him on his hair. Also, one of the surgical nurses has hair that is probably past mid-back length. Pretty cool to have long haired guys working on me.
Ted
Hi Ted,
Thanks for sharing your experience. That is really cool that you were attended to by some men with great long hair. I know your constant medical followups can be draining so every bit helps to make them more enjoyable.
Hopefully they too took encouragement from your compliments.
Jason
Hi Jason,
I just remembered that in the Urology department there was a guy who always complimented me on my hair. This was when I grew it in 2011 before I cut it. It was about 3 inches below shoulder. He didn't have long hair, but obviously was open minded towards long hair on men. I consider that a very good thing!
Ted
Definitely a good thing, Ted, and more people like him, as well as people like Jason and yourself, who love to share and inspire others towards open mindness, are invaluable to our society :)
I would have to agree with you Raul. We sure could use more tolerance as it would make things much better. Thanks for the nice compliment my friend:) I pride myself on being tolerant-the way my parents raised me. That's the only way.
Ted
I went in for my annual check up when my doctor came in with longer hair which he had in a pony tail. Not particularly long but also not particularly short. But it was long enough for him to put it in a pony tail.
Hi Jeremy,
First of all, welcome to the hyperboard, amd I am delighted that you have found us. Cheers to you for growing such a great head of hair, and for emphasizing the fact that long hair really is for everyone. It is awesome to see people from all professions growing, and promoting, long hair.
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks for all of the compliments and good to know there are others out there!
A bit more about me. I am 46 and a surgeon who has been growing his hair for not quite a year, though it was not super short to begin with. I have thought about long hair off and on for years, probably since high school but have never gone for it until now with the wife's permission (though the kids hate it). I definitely will grow it longer as I would like a solid ponytail, but how long I am not sure. Thanks again.
Hi Doc, thanks for sharing. I work in a lot of various professional environments of my clients, including many doctor's offices, so this is encouraging!
