Allright, here goes nothing!
Inspired by guys such as Jusin and Christian here, for their own videos, as well as countless others' blogs, such as Jason and Mark S... I have decided to try documenting my own hair journey in video and put it on the tubes.
Now, please keep in mind a few things:
1. I am not an native English speaker, and I really should work more on my pronounciation.
2. I am not really used to youtube as an uploader, so the quality is only 360P (my font iPhone cam) for the time being.
3. I didn't want to mess with editing and shots, so it's all one take, and I tend to drift off sometimes.
All in all, 9 months in, this is it.
P.S- My hairline is showing sometime, as I promised Jason, so that is out there as well, hehe ;)
Raul.
My hair Journey Part 1
Wow. Simply Wow :)
It's a great job you're doing there. The video is nice. And you create an impression of a kind and sincere man. You're a really charismatic person, so your video-journal is a nice job for you to do, actually.
Now that I saw your hair in dynamics I can't do anything but to get so much envious (oh, in a good sense, nothing wrong in mind) of your voluminous wavy hair! Wish I had mine look like that.
I appreciate what you're doing. Greatly thanks to you!
Serge.
Heya Serge!
Man, those kind words really do touch, and give tons of encouragement for continuing both with the hair growing, the posting and the video blog, thank you so much, buddy! :)
Hope I manage to live to that impression you are describing in the day to day life, god knows I do my best to always grow and be a kinder, better person :)
As for the hair, this was really 100% my natural hair.
Washed yesterday with Head % Shoulders dry scalp, and conditioned with an argan oil infused hairmask, as well as having had applied argan oil to it after carefully towel drying it.
As you can tell, it's pretty much growing in all directions now, and the side part (or eventually the middle part) are my only options... starting to get into my eyes and annoy, and there's no way it's staying behind the ears at this length, so gel is pretty much one of the only ways to keep it in track, hehe.
I do envy you for your GREAT hair, both in length, color and texture... you are lucky, my friend! Just imagine how much length you can show about 50% quicker than me... be proud of your locks, they looks awesome! :)
Raul, you are without question a kindred spirit of so many here. You so eloquently, in excellent English diction, spoke from the heart about your true motivations and why its so important to you. How what others might think does not matter. Why something trendy is not satisfying it its not really you. I like that you obviously arent concerned what people might think of you documenting the journey. I got some flack too but got pleasure from the fact that I was being different, following my own path and not worrying about others perceptions.
Personally a see a mirror image of myself in that were a tad obsessive, nothing wrong with that! I literally chuckled to myself about your concern about your hairline!! LOL, its like the time I went into the hair restoration clinic and the guy took a look at me and said to my bald friend, Look at this bastard! I mean it only in the best of ways. Im sure Im far more obsessed than you. I was taking Propecia at 25 even before it was legal to do so for hair loss!
Its really cool to hear a persons voice for the first time that youve only known by text and pictures. It fills the person in even more. I do have a few youtube videos myself but havent done one for a long time. The last I did about hair was in 2009 when my girlfriend (now wife) brushed each others hair out. Ive done some braiding and headbanging videos too. Its fun and a nice change from just pictures. I really look forward to following along on your journey in all the formats that you use. This community is so enriched by your presence.
Yeah, Raul - Agreeing with what Jason said about you - and this video brings everything we already began to know about you in your written words - This youtube video is great - it is great to hear your voice - beautiful English, by the way - and the accent (well, never mind ;)It is great to see you in this venue and to hear your reflections - I, too, along with a lot of others here, look forward to future installments - each of you guys encourage me - but, I admit, that I am becoming a little obsessed, too.
Thanks a bunch for the kind words, Fitz!
And I completely agree, this place really does bring the GOOD sorta' madness outta' one, when everybody is so determined and focus on the goal of achieving long hairdom!
Thanks alot!
Hey Jason!
Thank you so much for that truly heartfelt, warm comment... as I said to Serge earlier, those sort of comments really touch the heart, especially when one exposes themselves in this manner. Means a lot.
I've actually thought about doing a v-log ever since first watching Justin's videos back in October, but as my modelling/acting career would suggest, I am much better standing still and posing for pictures/walking down the catwalk, than I am speaking in front of it... This was actualyl a lot easier than I thought, something that can be explained by the fact that I *did* speak from the heart on a subject I am passionate about, and actually have a lot more to speak about in the future :)
I know that no matter how fanatic I feel, there's ALWAYS Jason out there who is more hair-crazy than I am, hehehe ... and that is one GOOD and comforting feeling, my good friend! ;):D
So I should drop the worries about the hairline? I do hope so.. it might move a few cm's more during the years, but as long as it stays remotely close to now, I will be happy :)
Would love to see links to YOUR youtube videos btw!
Thanks for the kind words Raul. This place really is a great support space.
The two braiding videos in the Links section are mine. If you click on my moniker for YouTube "haircreature" (LOL), you can access the rest of them.
Here's a headbanging one! I try not to take myself too seriously and have fun with it. :)
The Small Hours (Metallica)
Thanks for sharing, Jason!
Loved the braining videos, and the headbanging was pretty rad as well!
Kinda strange to see the "old Jason" in those videos, full beard and a couple extra pounds and all... another reminder that we never stop growing as people :)
Thanks again for sharing, I subscribed just in case you might want to post anything more regarding YOUR hair journey! I am sure you'd gather lots of interest and inspire a lot of people to want growing out theirs!
I was so inactive then compared to now. On the one hand, it gave me better ends for my hair because they suffered less abuse but left me unhealthy and depressed more often. I'll take the trade for a healthier body and mind for sure!
If I truly break into new territory with length, I do think I'd make a new video to document it. I'm not even quite sure where that would be. I'll have to analyze my previous longest lengths.
Thanks!
Hi Raul,
Man, this was an awesome video! I just love your voice and combined with the accent! I can't imagine why you don't like your voice on tape! And your smile is definitely admirable! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video and look forward to your future presentations my friend! And please don't be so harsh on your hair buddy! By the way, your command of the English language is very nice! You even use words which I wouldn't think a non native English speaker would know. Great effort!
Ted
Heya Ted!
Thank you a lot for the very nice and kind comments, my friend! I was a bit nervous putting this online, where I know people are 100% honest and have no restraints when it come to critiquing videos.. but at least here I know there's only love to get, and I appreciate that :)
As I said before, my hair here is 100% natural, no straightening, no gels, no nothing. It's really gotten rather humongous when it comes to volume, and I really can't say I like that... but time will definitely make it heavier, that much I remember from past experience.
Thanks for the comments on my English. It's rather funny, as it's always been my very best subject at school. I never really got math and physics, though in English lessons (as in learning the language), I thrived and managed to be well ahead of the curve at all times.
Then, you put a video up in English for your mostly AMERICAN friends to see, and there goes the confidence :P hehehe
Thanks again, buddy!
Well done Raul! Now let's push through that damn awkward stage together! My stupid hair won't stop blowing in my face! I'm about this much [] from being able to do a decent tail! Grrr! Also, don't think you're the only one with the dreaded poof crap going on! I keep telling my hair to just wait until waist length there won't be anymore of that sh*t! Onward and downward my friend!
Ted
Great video, Raul! Thanks for the mention of your inspiration from me, means a lot to me dude. Don't worry about what other people think like you said and just keep growing and flowing... hair's coming along nicely! \m/
Heya Mark!
It should be ME thanking YOU for your great blog and hair journal, as it has definitely helped in reminding me that even curly/wavy hair can look good in the end... around 30 months to go, eh? :D
What do you think, does my hair at 9 months resemble yours back then, if you recall?
I would answer yes, Raul. The middle stage was hard for me too, but in the end, grew way nicer with time and extra length added! :)
Jupp, that's pretty much curly-mullet me... :D
Hi Raul,
I would like to extend to you my personal congratulations on posting your excellent video, and thank you for sharing. Your long hair progress is coming along superbly, and by posting this video, you have inspaired many more men to embark on long hair journeys of their own.
Take care, and keep it growing,
David
Thank you so much, David!
Just the thought that I might have inspired someone to grow out their hair long is a really heartwarming one, and I definitely intend on both being a great representative to the long haired community, as well as keep on putting out videos and talking about having and growing long hair as a man :)
Hi Raul,
Very nice first attempt on the video and to think no editing! lol.Everything looks good with the lighting, contrasting background to show off your hair better, and overall presentation.Well done. Yes there is something to be said of a video over a still frame photo as so much more information can be conveyed:)Anyway your hair looks great as the best is yet to come my friend.Cheers
Mârk
Hi Mark!
Thank you for your positive comments!
I will definitely start looking into video editing for the 2nd one in a few month's time, and try to make it all look a bit more polished. At the same time, most of the guys I have been following on the tubes have this very same amateur-feeling to their haur-journey documentation, and I kinda' like that too.
As for the hair itself, yeah... I got plenty of comments from friends who thought it would be a lot longer by now, almost at the 9 month mark, but as I had to explain- you usually see pictures of me with straightened and or heavily stylized hair. This was going 100% hippie mode for me, so all natural and of course, the curls made it look a lot shorter! :D
Thinking of perhaps having another update at the 1 year mark, we shall see if anything substantial changes until then!
Wow man, way to step it up a notch!! LOVE the video, like so many others have said it really does offer so much more insight vs. a still photo. Super impressed with your English, given its what your 4th language?? I'm looking forward to many more video updates from you!
Congratulations on 9 months! Only a few more months until the big 1 year milestone!
-Tommy
Hey Tommy, bud :)
Thanks bro! English is indeed one of 4 languages I speak, though technically my 3rd learned language ;) I am, as well, rather sure that given a month or two in the states, my pronounciation and flow would definitely sounds ten times better... gotta' make that trip happen someday :)
But anyways, I appreciate the comment, and can't wait to see YOUR 1 year update! That is really when I feel shit is getting real, and we are well on our way to long hairdom! =)
Hah, you and me both are waiting for that 1 year update!! If you do make it across the pond you'll have to let me know! My wife has been saying for years we need to go to Europe, so who knows maybe Norway should be on our agenda when we finally make it over.
-Tommy
Nice video, you seem like a pretty cool dude, I see you posting all the time and like the progress, I made a youtube vid once,
my hair is 6 months ahead of the beard in the video, my hair be at 4 years come nov.
Raul,
Its very nice to see and hear you in "person" so to speak. Your
English is just fine, probably better than mine and its my
native language. And as someone else said I think you are being
way too hard on your hair, or on yourself about your hair. You
have great hair man! Enjoy it! Grow it!
This is a great video Raul, and I know that many guys will be inspired by it. By the way, your accent is really cool =)
Your English is perfect--both the construction of your sentences and your pronunciation.
Nice vid, man! Your English is amazing.
Damon

Raul,
Great job on your video. I only wish most americans could speak english as well as you do. You'd never know it's not your native toungue.
Looking forward to more.
