Some questions for guys here about Skinny Jeans,
what is the difference between skinny jeans and slim fit jeans?.
Are skinny jeans supposed to be skin tight? I was trying on
some and was noticing how loose they are. Are they supposed to be that loose?
No, not here in the UK. But I think the USA and the UK have different standards. In the UK "skinny jeans" are meant to be skintight; they have elastic lycra in them so they cling very tightly to the leg and hug the ankles. But I've seen trousers advertised as "skinny jeans" in the USA which we here in the UK would describe as merely "slim-fit jeans"; they have more of a straight leg, so they are a little looser around the leg and don't hug the ankles.
The jeans you tried on might be described as "skinny jeans" in the USA but would be described as merely "slim-fit jeans" here in the UK.

Hi LHIA,
Well here is my two cents on this subject since I'm deeply involved in it!LOL.Yes here in the USA there are slim fit jeans and skinny jeans.Slim fit jeans are generally cut slimmer in the waist and seat with straight legs that may be snug on the thighs but not below the knees. Also they are made of 100% cotton so there is no stretch factor that the skinny jeans have.I have both slim fit and skinny jeans and they are totally different. Also it depends on the size you buy.Say you are a 32 waist but buy slim fit jeans in 34s so of course they will be loose.I generally size my jeans down so as to enhance the tightness with the fit they were made to resemble. To me slim fit or skinny jeans are supposed to be tight, otherwise what's the point. It's really a matter of personal preference as I like my jeans to fit tight and will push the limits.I could go into much greater detail but I hope you got the idea.Damon's response was very good also.Cheers

Hi Hairball,
Well I just received my first pair of skinny jeans from make your
own jeans and I am very pleasantly surprised. I must have got
all my measurements just right. I also ordered the material with
the most stretch (3% I think). Anyways they are skin tight all
the way and just about as low as you can get and feel great. As
Damon UK says they give you an erotic feeling hehe.
Thanks for turning me onto that site! A perfect accessory to go
with long hair!
Hi MG,
Thanks for letting me know how you made out with "makeyourownjeans" :)Sounds like you got great service by getting them so quickly.Yes the first pair is always a gamble if you are off with some of the measurements but it sounds like you've nailed it the very first time!I agree with you about how erotic they feel with the combination of the 3% stretch and the over all snugness of the jeans.I currently have two pairs from them with each being different as I tweaked the second pair for an even lower rise and tighter legs at the calf:)My first pair had more of a flare below the knees.Anyway I'm happy someone such as yourself benefitted from them as I feel they are a great outfit to deal with.Enjoy your jeans my friend:) Cheers

ps: I totally agree as tight jeans and longhair are purrrrrrfect together:)LOL
Generally speaking, skinny jeans should fit snugly in the seat and thigh and have a close fit in the calf. You would have to go to ultra-skinny jeans if you wanted a snug fit in the calf. If you're finding them fitting loose, then you need to try on a smaller size until you get the fit you desire. Sizing is all over the map from brand to brand, and typically the lower rise jeans tend to run a bit larger for a given waist size. I guess they figure your hips (where low rise and skinny jeans tend to fit) are going to be much wider than your normal waist (which isn't necessarily the case for some of us). :P
Slim fit jeans on the other hand should fit close in the seat and thigh but not as close in the calf area. Slim fit jeans should fit those of us with a small butt much better than regular cut.

That's an American distinction that doesn't apply here in the UK. In the UK ALL "skinny jeans" are by definition skintight and snug on the calf. The terms "ultra-skinny jeans" or "super-skinny jeans" here in the UK simply indicate that the jeans have even more lycra in them and thus eliminate even the tiniest creases. They are really little more than denim tights. But ALL types of skinny jeans here are tightly fitted to the calf. Any other fit is not "skinny".
Yup, I don't have much of a butt either but those old saggy jeans I'm wearing in the pic do it no favours! Yuck!

Same as Damon UK.
Here in Argentina skinny jeans are super tight, they almost look like women jeans for being so tight.
Slim fit jeans are tighter than regular jeans but not as tight as skinny jeans.
I dont understand why so much difference in clothing size between countries.
For example, an American "M" t-shirt is as big as an "L" size here in Argentina. Its like american sizes are way bigger than the ones here.
I wear size S t-shirts, but the S t-shirts I found in the USA are more like an M size. So If I want to buy a real S size in the USA, I have to get a XS.
That's extremely annoying. It's called "vanity sizing", and this has evolved as Americans have statistically gotten so fat. I have some 30 year old USA "M" size stuff that barely fits me. However, now I often buy "S". Pretty ridiculous since I'm 5' 10" and 160 pounds (178 cm/72 kg). It's made buying stuff online very hazardous unless it's by the numbers instead of simple size.
For slim jeans, I like "cowboy fit" such as from Wrangler. Skinny fit doesn't allow enough movement for me, plus I like pockets. Cowboy fit is the compromise.
Hi Dave,
Ha ha, yea I agree as I always go with the smallest shirt size as possible just because of what you mentioned.Sadly what you said just confirms to me that Americans are just too supersized.lol.Don't know if you've ever visited the states but there are some quite large people about. Not sure what it's like by you but that's what I've observed.Cheers

Are there any stores that sell real "skinny" jeans in the US of A? I'm leary about ordering jeans through the internet. (I like to try them on that way I don't have the hassle of returning them. Around here returns are a hassle.)
On shirts I prefer them big (my shoulders are broad so I have to
wear an XL shirt even though it is too large over the rest of my
body.) Also I prefer longer shirts. I hate shirts that are too short. I hate shirts that end above the waist. Even though I often go shirtless in the summer when I do wear a shirt I prefer a good amount of length.
--------------
There are stores that so sell skinny jeans but then I don't know what stores are in your area. I shop for skinny jeans either online or go into Manhattan where I have no problem finding them at either major dept stores or boutique stores but then they are expensive at those places. Your best bet, if you are brave enough, is to try on skinny jeans from the women's dept. as those are easier to find in more common stores that sell clothing. True men's skinny jeans are harder to get but not impossible. Levi's do have their so called skinny jeans so you could try them for starters but those don't stretch so if really tight will take some getting used to.Your better off with the ones that have at least 1 or 2% spandex or Lycra content. Let me know how it goes if you find any.As for shirts you could look for ones that are tapered so they cut into your waist better than those others you describe.Cheers

Sadly what you said just confirms to me that Americans are just too supersized.lol.
Hi Mark,
I think you guys hit the nail on the head here! I believe clothing is designed to allow extra "wiggle room" in the U.S. Only in America...
Ted
I would note that while the vast majority of men in the US of A
are supersized their hair is not. For many years now us
long haired men are still a distinct minority. But then i've
still got long hair so you can say my hair is "supersized."
Yes, I have been to the States this year (been to New York and Los Angeles, I havent been to small towns or anything so I dont know how people are there haha) but yes, Americans are way too big.
Although I live in South America , in my country people are more like the Italian kinda style (not that tall, slim bodies) and thats because we received a lot of immigration from Italy, Spain, France. So we dont have the typical latino kinda look although we are latinos.
So, back to the clothing issue, I must admit that I could never buy clothing from the USA online because I would get a surprise haha .
Its also true that in the USA you have everything setup for you to gain weight. For example, one thing I noticed in the US is that when you have dinner at McDonalds or some other restaurants, you can ask for a free "re-fill" of what you're drinking (Coke, most of the times). That does not happen here. There is no re-fill policy haha. That is probably a little thing and a stupid example but providing free Coke to people as many times as they want also makes them gain weight.
The amount of fast food restaurants there are is incredible also.
Hi Dave,
Very nice post! The cola example is actually not stupid. Non-diet sodas are responsible for much of our overweight issues.
Ted
Hi Ted,
Unfortunately, it is. I heard that New York is going to stop this re-fill policy they have everywhere to stop people from consuming so much non diet sodas in restaurants.
I would mention in this regard that in a number of cities you
have what are called "food deserts." In other words the only place to get food is a fast food joint be McDs, BK, Wendys, etc.
They have no food stores, no place to buy fresh produce, etc.
In a number of these downtown areas the only way to go to a
supermarket or grocery store is if you have access to car to
go to the suburbs. And in a number of hose cities there are
no buses or mass transit to those supermarkets or grocery stores.
And then there is the issue of the prices at many of these fast food places have gone down in recent years but the prices for
fresh produce/groceries have skyrocketed.
Hi LHIA,
Excellent points. I have always been amazed how it's almost cheaper to eat at a fast food than it is to cook at home.
Ted
Hi guys,
I don't wear skinny jeans. But I wanted to tell you all that I appreciate the excellent info you have provided about them. I never realized there was so much to them! So, with that being said, keep rockin' those skinny jeans my brothers! They are cool looking, I must admit!
