I found this site through looking for info from and about men who like long hair, grow it long for cultural reasons or both.
I have always wanted to have long hair and had the support of one of my parents - my father. He wanted me to be proud of my heritage and I always have been. He wanted me to let my hair grow long, but it was not allowed.
Now, I am 48 years old and my hair reaches nearly the bottom of my shoulder-blades now. Partly because I like the way it moves, feels, looks, and frames my face. Partly also because of my strong ties to my ancestry, and as a statement that even after all that has happened to us, we are still here - we will still practice our ways and be proud of who we are. I will post again once I have a decent photograph of myself that I am satisfied with, posted somewhere on the Internet, and give a link to the photo.

Dave, I am moved deeply by your post here. I am glad you found us. There are many different reasons why someone would grow their hair long and you will discover many and various courses and progressions here as we share our journeys with one another. I must say, though, that your reasons, because of your heritage and your rich pride in that heritage, speaks to me passionately. I look forward to seeing a photo of you soon.
Welcome. It's gratifying to hear that you're now following the path that feels right for you and honoring your Native heritage as well.
I'll never forget the awe I felt when watching Dancing With Wolves and admiring Wind In His Hair's flowing hair! That is one of my favorite movies for several reasons. I like how the John Dunbar character's hair grew longer during the movie symbolizing his personal evolving.
That is one of my favorite movies, too, Jason.
Thank you, both. Letting my hair grow long has been one of the most righxt things I've done so far. One job I had would not allow mw to grow it out, else it would have already reached terminal length by now. I'm hoping that, in a few more years, it will have grown down to my waist as that is where I want it.
Don,t yet have a decent pic to share but will work on that this weekend.
I completely understand your cultural and heritage reasons. If our names are any indicator, we have similar backgrounds. Welcome to the site.
