No matter how much I trim I get them a good bit. Will my hair still grow long and then when I get to my goal length which is lower back, could I just start trimming the ends then or should I cut back now? My hair is for the most part in very healthy condition.
I have had them for the last 3 years and still been able to reach lower back.....I say wait and trim once you reach your goal
Of course it will still grow out.
Just let it grow and keep the ends tidy. You may find that you need to trim a little more from time to time - ask Jason - as you get a lot of straggling hair where each hair has grown differentially and losing a little makes it look a whole lot better.
I've been trimming off individual split ends, one by one. It seems to be helping.
I have almost waist-length hair and hardly any split ends, despite double shampooing every day in really hard water. The natural ends of your hair can't really split, so trimming would be more likely to cause them than to get rid of them.
Also possible that it's a dietary thing. I eat a fairly high-fat diet, including lots of olive oil and a quarter pound of chocolate daily.
You could try doing a neutral henna (the real stuff, not store-bought) just on the ends. It fills in the nooks and crannies of your hair, so it might act as a sealant to keep the splits from getting worse.
I occasionally cut split ends but not often. Using leave-in conditioners everyday helps to minimize damage to the hair. The hair salon removes these using a roller brush with wet hair. This is especially needed to work on the back of my hair. When I trim my hair myself, I need to use a hand held mirror in front of the large bathroom mirror. This can be awkward and not as accurate.
Don
I barely have split ends , but whenever I notice my ends are dry or split I apply olive oil.
Last night for example, I noticed some dry ends and applied olive oil (natural olive oil, not warm, on the ends) and they looked great. It really worked.
Also, some people suggest to apply olive oil on the ends before you wash your hair. Not sure why. I havent tried it . Tonight is washing hair night to me so Im gonna try it to see how it works .
Thanks for the responses everybody. I'm gonna just let it grow to my lower back with very small trims every few months.
