Today I decided to take some photos from my hair to show how my progress goes.
I know these ARE NOT the best quality pictures you've ever seen but I basically wanted to show something for you to get an idea of how long my hair is now and I think these photos meet that goal.
Sorry that I took these photos without a T-shirt on, but my hair is pretty dark and most of my t shirts are dark too haha.
I started my journey from something like this:
This is my hair today, after 1 year 4 months :
On this one, you can definitely see the V shape :
View from the front. A few more inches and it will get to my nipples haha
Current hair routine:
- I am using L'oreal "KERA-LISS" shampoo and conditioner. These products contain Keratine, which is a natural protein that hair has. It nourishes and seals the cuticles making hair look straighter.
- When I have split or dry ends, I use a Dove serum to seal them and that has been working pretty good to me because I am not willing to trimm the ends at this point. Probably when I achieve a longer length , not now.
- I shampoo ONCE a week (in general, on fridays). The other days I only co-wash once or twice.
- if my hair gets too frizzy due to the weather (I live in a very humid city) I use a Loreal oil . This oil contains different natural oils from flowers and it smells great.
- The color is not natural. My natural hair color is light brown, probably very dark blonde.
Please comment, rate and subscribe.. Oops, this is not YouTube :P
Oh, Dave - if only I were that young and good looking.
Your hair looks great - very nice - It's difficult to imagine you in lighter hair color.
The other guys can probably give you a better assessment than me, but for what it's worth from me - it's looking good.
Wow fitz, thanks for you kind words.
I think that being young and good looking is nothing if you're a bad person. So to me, the most important is the personality and the good vibes the person prompts. I met really young and good looking people who were bastards so... It's all relative. And I know this sounds like a clichè but I swear its not (at least to me)
Also wanted to thank about your opinion on my hair. I am really working a lot to keep it in a decent look :)
Keep growing and nice rest of the weekend.
I totally agree with you... but, it sure doesn't hurt to be good looking and a nice guy - so good for you - good for giving good vibes and being kind to others - it breaks all the bad boy rules that some think of when they see a young guy with long hair. Kudos to you, my young friend.
Hi Dave,
Thanks so much for the wonderful update! I have to agree with Fitz! i think you would even look great if you took a picture of yourself with a dirty camera lens! Can you say handsome lawyer? I was just looking at the sands of Buenos Aires in that one pic and got kind of jealous:)
It looks like everything you're doing is working very well. Your hair is looking fantastic and you have made excellent progress! I do like the dark color in your hair. I like how you posted your routine. It's always interesting to see what works for other members. Please keep it growing and flowing my friend! And I really like the tat on your chest. Way cool man.
Ted
Hi Ted !
Thank you so much for your nice comments. I think that growing hair out is not just sitting and waiting until it grows, but also taking care of it. So that's what I am trying to do right now.
Some people may be focused on getting length, no matter how their hair looks and once their hair is longer they worry about the appearance.
I am not really worried about the length -for now- . I prefer it to look decent haha. But hey , I was looking at my hair in the mirror yesterday and decided to take some photos and well, here they are ..!
Hope you have a nice rest of the weekend.
Your hair looks awesome, Dave! Although I may be a tad biased, seeing as it is almost exactly the same as mine in everything except natural hair color :) Your routine is definitely better than mine was at that length (which was basically none)
Onward and downward,
Jarvis
Thanks Jarvis! That is a nice compliment coming from someone with perfect hair :)
I really take care of my hair and try not to damage it. Let's see if I can keep on working so hard on my hair as it gets longer ( I am sure I will haha )
Nice weekend!
I wouldn't say perfect hair, dark brown and almost stick straight gets kind of boring. But it's mine, so it's ok!
Heya Dave!
Man, what an outstanding progress you are showing, and you've definitely got sa wonderful mane to be proud of!
I absolutely love the way the Keratine treatment has made your hair all silky smooth and straight, looks amazing! Is that the treatment with the more risky stuff (which is supposed to last for good, or at least until the roots get too noticable), or the milder version, which needs to be taken every 2-3 months?
Oh, and you don't ALWAYS have to have the duckface on, eh? :D
Kidding! Looking good, bro! Hehe.
Hi Raul, I have just realized that you are back to the board haha.
The risky treatment you're talking about is called "Japanese Straightening" (or Thermal Straightening ).
This is the most dangerous and EXPENSIVE straightening treatment and you have to be 100% sure you want to do it because your hair remains straight no matter what you do to it and there is no way to revert it. Also you have to be very constant because you have to re-touch your roots every 6 months or probably less because otherwise it will awkward.
The one I got is a keratine shock. Keratine is a natural protein that your hair naturally has but it goes away as time goes by. When your hair looses keratine it tends to look poofy beause the cuticles are not sealed any longer by this protein.
So what this treatment does is it provides a keratine "shock" to your hair so the final result will be the restoration of your hair, making it look straighter, not poofy and not frizzy . It is true that you have to re-do this treatment every 4-5 months so the more you get it done, the better results you will get and the longer it will last.
And hey, i am a duckface .. can't avoid that ! hahaha
Wow! That is hair to be envious of! I really want to grow mine out just like that. May I ask how you take care of dyeing it? do you redye the entire hair or just do the roots? and how often?
Hey! Thanks for the comment :)
The most important thing when dyeing your hair is to make sure that you deep-condition it after you dye it. Dyeing dries out your hair so it is very important to do some deep-conditioning treatment after you do dye it.
It depends. Sometimes I redye my entire hair because some layers fade out so instead of black I get reddish areas (for example now I have some faded areas so next time I should redye my entire hair). If not, redyeing your roots only will be fine. I don't dye my hair too often but only when I notice that my roots are really noticeable.
No, Thank you Dave, One more thing I forgot to ask, which dye do you use and do you do it at home or at a salon?
I do it at home with my mom's help.
Since the color that I choose to dye it is black, I dont really buy always the same product because all of them are exactly the same.
So I usually try to buy dyes that do not contain ammonia (thats very harsh for hair and scalp).
Hey Dave, wow that is great progress in 16 months! I really like the way you comb/part it, I have been doing something similar, but hopefully it will stay better as it gets longer. You look like a natural dark haired fellow, the color suits you well!
One thing I've noticed on myself is the longer my hair gets, the lighter the color seems. I always used to consider myself a dark brown, almost black haired guy, but now my hair is very light brown, even reddish in some places!

Hey Tom,
Thanks for your kind comments. Yes, indeed my hair grows really fast. That is one of the reasons why I decided to grow my hair out. Before when I had short hair, I had to go to the salon at least every 10 days to keep it short. Waste of time AND money.
I read somewhere that you dont like the middle part on you. The same thing happens to me. For something the middle part is not to me. it makes me look dumb haha. So I always side part it.
Regarding hair color, the more it grows, the more the color fades. Dont forget that long hair is basically old and dead hair. The sun and or water fades the color a lot.
