Hey everybody,
I just realized I hadn't spammed the board with an update pic this month! Well, I have made it 14 months or so now. I seem to be making some kind of progress! I am definitely enjoying my hair now. My wife told me her friend asked her when I was going to cut my hair! My wife informed her that wasn't going to happen! I gues that's one way you can tell you're making progress! Thanks for your inspiration everyone!
Ted
Lookin' good, Kiddo! Keep it growing and flowing, as you like to say!
Don
Hi Don,
Many thanks for the compliments my friend! i definitely plan to keep it growing and flowing! Waist length is my first goal. Patience needed! Great week my friend!
Ted
Wow Ted, its looking pretty long! Congrats on reaching 14ish months.
Just curious, but have you measured to see how long it actually is? Are you hitting the .5" per month or are you faster/slower than that?
-Tommy
Hi Tommy,
Thanks a bunch for the compliments! That's a good question about the growth rate. I haven't really been concerned with that to be honest. I have been waiting for the layers to all catch up so it's easier to measure. But as long as it keeps growing, I will be happy! Waist length here I come!
Ted
"I have been waiting for the layers to all catch up so it's easier to measure."
Ted, I am curious - have you trimmed your hair at all so the layers catch up? How do they catch up otherwise? Are you finding the longer it grows the more the layers blend?
I am still at that place where over my ears curl up and flop out and do not reach length to pull it back into a tail. I have not been as daring with styles like our friend, Raul. So, I just comb it back and let it fall. Now it is beginning to find a natural part just right of center, but the sides still look kind of funky.
Fitz
Do you know by any chance what is the correct way to measure hair length?
The other day I measured mine (I had nothing better to do haha) . It was actually pretty hard because my hair grows in layers, it's not all one length. If I measured it ok, my hair length is about 42-45 cm (that would be 17.7 inches).
But again, I am not quite sure how to measure it, etc
Not really...I have one of those plastic measuring tapes that I use. I just do grab some random pieces and then try to the find the root and measure like that. I'm sure there is a better way to do it but it seems to be accurate-ish lol! I measured a few months ago and I think I was around 6-7 inches on the sides and the top.
I am going to measure mine again when I hit 1 year.
Ted-
this is fantastic... I'll bet you are pleased.
I'd like to entice you to give us a shot of how your hair looks from the front. Come on, now - let's see that handsome face of yours with the hair hanging down!
I find I still vascilate back and forth on growing my hair out. I can see as I move along the months that even a year's growth is not enough to give me a true idea of how my hair will look. I kind of laugh now at my first goal of growing my hair for 6 months without a hair cut. It was so short in June! Now that I have the goal of one year - even though I go back and forth in my mind as to whether I look all that great with long hair, I realize I can't judge at 12 months either and I need to restrain myself on the "two week rule" before I get the scissors out...
So, thanks for the update on your progress - as always it inspires me to keep growing and flowing...
Hi Fitz,
Thank you so much for the kind words! I will have my wife take a front pic when I get home from dialysis. However, I can't guarantee a handsome face after 4 hours on dialysis! I do appreciate the compliments though!
As far as your hair, I would just try to let it grow for at least a year. You just have to not think about it. I think it will take 1 to 2 years to really tell what you will look like with long hair. You are so used to seeing yourself with short hair. I truly believe you will look spectacular! But yes, always invoke the two week rule! It just takes so much longer to grow than cut!
I am glad to hear I inspire you man! Please keep us updated on your progress! On ward and downward my friend!
Ted
Hi Fitz,
Your enticement worked! Here is the pic from the front you requested. Not sure about all that handsome stuff... On ward and downward!
Ted
Hi Ted,
Have to say your mane looks fantastic in this new update even as I view it
here on the west coast in California:)lol. Now that it's already reached your
shoulders I can see it creeping down your back so certainly on its way to waist
length. Hope all is well with you my friend.Cheers
Mârk
Hi Mark,
Many thanks for the kudos my friend! I hope you're enjoying California as I miss when I lived there as a boy! Yes, we are slowly but surely making our way to waist length! I must admit I do like how it feels tickling my back without a shirt on! Hehe. Today was a dialysis day so I took a little while to reply:) Enjoy your trip and please be safe!
Ted
Looks great, Ted! Keep it growing and flowing brother! :)
Hi Mark,
Thanks so much for your very nice words my friend! Sorry for thelate reply! Dialysis kind of wore me out today.
I still feel woefully inadequate when I compare my hair to yours and other members here! Oh well, one day I will get there!
Ted
I haven't been here in a couple of weeks but I'm glad I came by today. Love seeing the progress =)
Hi Christian,
I thank you kindly for the compliments! I think I'm making progress! Sometimes I wonder though!:) Apologies for the late reply! Dialysis wore me out today:)
Ted
I have good friend that has Dialysis twice a week. My heart goes out to you guys. Hang in there =) and I apologize for the late reply to your late reply, haha. I sometimes don't find my past posts to see if there are even any replies..
Looking great Ted!
Its cool to see someone so confident about growing his hair out. I also like the fact that you get support from your wife on this journey.
That is very important as well.
Have a nice week!
Hi Dave,
Thanks so much for your very kind words my friend! I can tell you that I get a lot of my confidence from this site. The various posts and update pics definitely work to keep me going!
Yes, my wife loves me growing my hair! She thinks it's cool and is very open-minded. Possibly that's why I have been married to her for so long! You are correct-it is very important to be supportive of each other!
And may you have a very nice week as well sir!
Ted
.
Yeah, Ted, you can always tell you're making progress when people start commenting! I personally think you're doin' a great job and that it looks awesome. You oughta be proud. Keep right on goin', my friend.
P.S. - One day I knew I had started making real progress when one of my wife's friends wanted to know what was up with my hair, saying, "Steve looks like a caveman!" LOL!
Hi Steve,
I really appreciate the very kind words my friend! I do plan to keep growing to at least waist length. And yes, I love when people give me funny looks in public! Now you have me looking forward to being called a caveman! Haha! I love it!
I do apologize for the late reply! My dialysis was a little rough today!
Ted
Hi Ted,
Cheers and congrats to you on another outstanding update, and your hair continues to get better and better every single day. Keep up the good work with the growin', and I look forward to your future updates!
Keep it growing,
David
Hi David,
I thank you kindly for your compliments my friend! I am definitely enjoying the journey to waist length! I haven't mentioned it before. But when I realize how much I have saved on haircuts, it keeps me going! Growing long hair has more than one benefit! We save money and also have a wonderful journey to a great mane! Sounds good to me!
I do apologize for my late reply as dialysis kicked my butt today!
Ted
Hi Ted
Great update and you are now getting closer and closer to the day when your hair makes it over the shoulders which is perhaps about the biggest event along the way of growing out ones hair. Looks as if you WILL have it with about 3-1/2 to 4 or so more inches for sure. After clearing the shoulders really, all is a happy downhill free-for-all fall of cascading long hair fun. Just wait, you'll find out! :-)
All the best-
Justin~
Hi Justin,
Thanks so much for your very kind words my friend! Yes, I can't wait until my hair really sits behind the shoulders! That will definitely be a happy milestone for sure! And you are correct! I am looking forward to the free-for-all! I am ready to find out-now! Thanks much for your inspiration!
Ted
...........funny thing too. It seems to do it all of a sudden. You wake up one AM and behold, it did it!
After that it is on and off for a spell just as in the Awkward Stage. A final try out of the blue to curl up at the ends and then pow, the hair gives up in defeat and you have won! :-)
Justin~
Hi Justin,
Thanks so much for the inspirational reply! I really am curious how much length I will have to give up due to the curl factor. I might like to have enough wave to give the hair nice movement.
And you can bet I will win the battle! I am so determined to get to waist length! I so remember your beautiful long dark straight hair! Talk about inspiration! I do like how my hair is kind of moving when I walk though! I am having so much fun growing you wouldn't believe it! One of these days I will be able to update that avatar;)
Please have a great rest of the week my friend!
Ted
Hey Ted!
Hair is looking REALLY greay, and has fantastic flow and color to it! You ought to be proud, my friend! =)
Hi Raul,
Much appreciate your very nice compliments my friend! I must agree with you! It does seem to have nice color and flow to it! For a while there I was hating my color!
Please keep growing your wonderful hair too buddy! I definitely look forward to your updates!
Ted
Magnificent. Your hair has reached quite a length and it looks better with each cm.
I despise such people. It's none of their business, but maybe she had no bad intentions. You are going to hear that shit more often in the future, though it won't really matter because you are too tough to give in.
Hi Michail,
Thanks so much for your very kind compliments my friend! I am happy with my length so far!
As far as the questions about cutting, I don't really care about it. I just take it as motivation to keep growing. It lets me know I'm making good progress! She didn't have any bad intentions. I think until we get to a certain length, people don't think we're serious. Little do they know! I'm going for waist length baby! Keep it growing and flowing my friend!
Ted
Ted, your hair is without a doubt looking TERRIFIC these days -- and more & more length is also without a doubt increasingly noticeable as well; so a huge CONGRATS to you!!!!
I also got a big kick out of your use of the word "spamming" the board... Hey, if you call that spam, then please give me a thick slice of it so I can make me a big old sandwich -- and hold the pickles and the mayo, please, just slather on some mustard and a slice of tomato (LOL)!!
"Onward & Downward!"
- Ken
Hi Ken,
Many thanks for your very kind compliments my friend! I am glad you are noticing the increase in length! I am very happy with it so far! Waist length here I come! Can't wait to get there!
And yes, I will definitely serve up that special spam sandwich to you! I just wish my hair would hurry up and grow! Then I might be able to serve you a "Dagwood" sandwich for a change! LOL! And yes, onward and downward!
Ted
Looking great, Ted! It is sprouting along nicely.
- Oren
Hi Oren,
Thanks a bunch for your very kind words my friend! I am patiently waiting to get to waist length! It's taking forever, but will be cool when I get there! I do appreciate your inspiration! Long locks forever!
Ted
I see you've got plenty of replies, I guess that's an indication of how well you're doing, I might as well add mine, your hair looks impeccable :)
Hi Stickeelion,
I definitely didn't expect so many replies! I have so much further to go! But I do thank you kindly for the very nice compliments! I sure hope you keep your wonderful hair growing my friend! You will love it! Onward and downward we go!
Ted
