Today I've been playing with my hair in the mirror trying different pony tails ( I still hesitate to ponytail my hair because I dont like how it looks on me, but eventually I will have to do it since warmer days are coming in this part of the world).
Low pony tail looks really bad on me, for some reason I dont like it. But I found that high pony tail looks better (Dont know why, it just looks better).
Is it ok for a guy to weat high pony tails? Any of you does? I read that high pony tails in general are for women. I am not talking about a super high pony tail, just something in between -not super high nor super low-.
Honestly I stopped worrying about what is ok and not ok a long time ago lol.. I wear mine high a lot when its really hot out and even pull it up into a high bun in the summer. I french braid mine and do 2 braids one on each side sometimes it my hair I dont tell women how to wear there hair.. My wife helps me braid mine cause for the life of me cant braid my own lol.
At the ripe old age of 59 I gave up long ago with worrying about
what is Ok and not Ok.
It' my hair and i'll wear it the way I want to.
Now alot of the time I wear my hair loose, when it is stormy or
windy or when there is the potential for hair damage i'll wear the hair in a pony tail, braid it, bun it, or pig tail it. And when I pony tail it it i've done both low pony tails and high pony tails. But at the age of 59 I don't care what other people think.
I only ponytail my hair when I go to sleep to avoid tangles, etc. Also, by ponytailing when going to bed the hair looks straigther next day.
Hi Dave,
Glad to hear you're having fun with your hair! I just can't imagine you not looking good with anything! But if it's your hair, your rules. If you think a high ponytail looks better, then I would do that. To be honest with you, I don't care what other people think! I'm like you, I don't like tails that much. But I have seen some male lawyers with ponytails:)
Ted
Hi Ted, thanks for your kind words. I agree with you and eventually will start wearing high pony tails as summer comes closer around here.
Yes, there are a lot of lawyers, accountants and different male professionals who wear ponytails. Indeed, I have a professor in uni who is a young lawyer and wears his hair in a ponytail, pretty neat.
There is also a millionaire accountant here in Argentina -very young, he is not more than 30 years old- and is very famous, his hair is very long and wears his hair in high pony tails.
Look at him:
Now that I think about it, that is not exactly a pony tail -could it be a pig tail? Not sure-. But anyway, the fact is he has long hair and ties it somehow , and he is still professional and very successfull :)
Nice week to you !
Sure, it is ok to wear a Ponytail any way you want. Your hair = your rules. Simple as that and if other people don't like it? Well then, isn't that too bad for them. Glad to hear that your long hair is coming along so well.
Justin~
I appreciate your feedback Justin. I know that eventually i will have to start ponytailing my hair or i will die in the summer - summers are very hot and humid down here-. Also I will have to get used to seeing myself with my hair in a ponytail - I always wear it loose except when I go to sleep, I use a low pony tail -.
Even on the hotest days of the year i'll still wear my hair loose.
Call it built in shade.
I haven't experienced being a long haired in summer time. I started to gain length during this winter so I will see how it feels to wear hair down in hot days haha.
Hey Dave,
I'd suggest wearing your hair the way you like to, but there's nothing wrong with experimenting.

BTW, I like the pics that you have posted with your hair down.
Thanks for your reply and for your compliment.
I never used a ponytail before, except when going to sleep to avoid tangles, etc. So I will have to get used -first- to the fact of wearing a pony tail outside my house. And then, to the fact of wearing a high pony tail haha.
I know I will do it eventually.
well, the colour pink is for women but does that stop men from wearing it? nah, you can do whatever you want, just as long as you are comfortable with it. I'm sure your hair looks great worn any way
Lol I wear pink all the time just like the purple pink shade of colors
I will definitely start wearing high pony tails eventually. Also, low pony tails do not meet the goal of keeping mi neck fresh during summer, so that is another reason why I guess high pony tails are better.
The term 'Ponytail came in to use to describe the high tieback of long hair. As it does resemble a "pony's tail" as on the animal itself the tail sits high on the rump. However, it's use to describe the tieback of long hair at the base of the skull is erroneous, from a physical likeness standpoint. In that regard, I just refer to it as simply a "Tail" Though I do know that a short tail on men, tied back as in colnial American times. is referred to as a "Queue" Simply pronounced "Q". The word itself is a british term for a line, as in "Waiting in a Queue for theatre tickets" How it came to be used as name for a males hair tied in a 'Then' short tail is something for a lexicographer to discern. Frankly, I like the term 'Queue' better than 'Ponytail" but there seems to be resistance to this usage.
Thanks for sharing all this information. I love history and I love finding out why certain things are called the way they are.
I have to agree with the consensus on this one. There is no right or wrong. You have to decide what's best for you. That being said, there is a trend that follows gender. Most pony tails on men are worn down low by the neck and on women it's the higher type. That doesn't mean it's the only acceptable way, it's just the current trend. I personally wear a low tail unless I feel like wearing a "half-tail" where the hair on top of my head is tied back high on my head while the hair below the earline is worn loose. I don't like high tails myself, but that's just my personal preference. Do what makes you feel comfortable.
Yeah, I have seen some guys wearing high pony tails though -not the majority of course=, most guys wear low loose pony tails. I dont really find the point on wearing a low LOOSE pony tail. Why loose? I dont understand. Its the same as not ponytailing to me.
I think that a high pony tail will meet its goal better (keeping me and my neck fresh during summer time) . So I will give it a try eventually.
I understand where everyone coming from in saying do what you want, however I'm with Dave and would like to know what the social convention is on this?
You want to know what the social convention is on this? The social convention is that men should have short hair and no pony tail at all. So i'm bucking social convention by just having long
hair and wearing a pony tail no matter whether it is a high pony tail or a low pony tail.
But as i've said before is i'm 59 years old and I don't care
what others think. It's my hair and i'll wear it the way I want to.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Tying a ponytail in the middle of your head isn't particularly odd at all. I think we often worry about things too much. When i first started tying my hair back I thought people would comment and I was self conscious, but no one did. People with long hair tie their hair back! That's what we do, whether for practicality or style or both.
I say just take the plunge and go for it. You could always do it when your with a friend or something to get more comfortable though.
Doc
I would add that i'm 59 years old and gave up long ago litening to
nay sayers. It's my hair, i'll wear it the way I want to when I want. If someone doesn't like it then tough potatoes. The hair
is long, it is staying long, and i'll wear it the way I want to.
I would also note that when i was younger I got lots of complaints about my hair. Once I reached the age of 45 those
complaints stopped. Now that i'm 59 years old, my hair is still long, my hair has tons of grey, and the complaints stopped 14
years ago.
I started growing my hair long in 1964. Every time I got
a negative comment/complaint/etc. I took as an incentive to
let my hair grow even longer.
And now that i'm 59 years old everyone that knows me knows that
I have long hair, will have long hair for the rest of my life,
will have a boat load of grey hair, and will continue to wesr
the clothes i want to when i want to. And yes that means wearing cut off shorts all year 'round.
But one of the nice things about long hair is I can it in lots
of different styles to give me variety. And yes that has included high pony tails in various locations. At 59 it's my hair and I don't care what others think. Besides I learned long
ago that if I chopped off my hair they'd complain that my nose
is too big, i'm too short, i need to lose weight, etc.
I have had long hair for many years and when I put it up I find that the most comfortable way to do it is in a high ponytail. You can see a pic of it in the link below (look for the pic of me in a red robe). After all these years I still wear my hair the same way. And it is that way now. Just go for it! It is a great way to keep your hair when you feel like cutting it off because it is in the way. One day I said "either I learn to braid it or I am cutting it off" with that in mind, I learned how to do it and to this day I still have long hair.
