Some questions about skinny jeans:
1. How should they fit? Should they be somewhat loose
or should they be skin tight?
2. Is it true that someone should only wear skinny jeans
if their waist size is 33 inches or under?
In my opinion they should be skin tight and as for size maybe up to a 34 of course your height is a factor too.
Can't we include 36 too?
Hmmmm, maybe.LOL
That leaves me out. My waits now is a 38. Back in college my waist was a 32. (Nut then I was very much underweight for my
height. At 5'9" my ideal weight should be 160.
In my opinion there is no specific rules, I feel they can be as tight or as loose as you like (mine vary depending on if I go to gym or not :P )
as with size, I'm not sure but I guess if they look fine then go for it
Many years ago when I was severly underweight I could wear them.
Now that my weight is where it should be I can't wear them.
(Back in the 1970s my weight was 110 lbs. Now it is 165 lbs.
At a height of 5'9" my weight ideally should be 165 lbs.)
I agree with Mark's comment: "In my opinion they should be skin tight and as for size maybe up to a 34 of course your height is a factor too."
True skinny jeans (those with stretch denim) are comfortable to wear since they allow you to move without the restriction of excess material flapping around the legs (much like wearing tights). At the same time, because of their tightness round the pelvis and hips, they tend to force you to walk more elegantly; it's very difficult to shuffle along like a slovenly zombie in them.
Ultimately, the main point of skinny jeans, whether you're male or female, is vanity, to show off your legs. There's nothing inherently wrong with a male wanting to show off his body - whether it's his hair or his legs; males are instinctively peacocks. But ideally, the legs should be worth showing off.
Yeah, I've seen plenty of overweight guys with short legs wearing skinny jeans - but they do run the risk of looking like muffins on matchsticks, not a flattering image (despite the cartoon!). Personally, I think skinny jeans look best on slim guys with long legs that are in proportion to their body.
Age and gender are not factors; it's all down to body shape.

Hi Damon,
Very well put as skinny jeans are not meant for all physiques. If your going to wear them loose then why bother with skinny jeans in the first place, that's what baggy jeans are for.Yes something for everyone and I agree they do highlight the legs for sure. This is perfectly illustrated in this pic from two weeks ago when I was out in San Francisco.Cheers

Mark, I have a incere question. I do have long legs in comparison to my heigh. 5'9", a 30 inch waist and an inseam of 34 inches 26 with boot cut jeans. Isuppose I could wear 'Skinny Jeans' however, On part of the llok I am uncomfortable with is *And please forgive me( the bottom around the ankle. They look too short. I would imagine a bit of excess Closer rto a boot cut not flared, ain't talkin Bell Bottoms here, Though I did wear tight bells back in the day. at least form the knee up. Just sayin. the look would be more refined and would make the legs look even lmnger wit a "stovepipe or boot cut hem that layed just atop the shoe, or boot. It seems that most who wear tight jeans have that "High water " look. Just me. but I don't like that aspect. By the way. A great pic and it does the deed of showing some fine attributes.
Hi Rktect,
Ok, let me try and answer some of your questions on this particular pair of jeans. These jeans are actually a custom pair I had made up so I supplied all the measurements for this finished product. This is actually the second pair of skinny jeans I had made by them so my first pair actually had more flare at the leg end whereas this pair I kept narrow all the way to the leg end.In fact I made the length too long so I tried stuffing the excess in my boot since it didn't fit over it.Maybe the pic doesn't show that but the length is plenty long.Maybe I should have worn a different type of shoe with these. If I decide to order a third pair I could increase the bottom leg opening a tad so as to accommadate going over a boot but not spoiling the skinny jean look.My first pair definitely has a noticeable flare out though.Just remember these are custom so you have to experiment some before you get it right.Thankfully I like this fit so most of the numbers are a keeper:) Cheers

Nah, it just depends on your footwear and your mood. If I'm wearing clunky boots I always tuck the jeans inside. If I'm wearing normal trainers or "soft" boots (like Converse Hi-Tops) I either roll the bottom of the jeans up a bit (a cool look a couple of years ago) or drape them over the top like regular jeans. Yeah, my skinny jeans have a very narrow ankle but bear in mind that they are STRETCH denim so they can still stretch enough to go outside my Converse Hi-Tops. See the image of me above (yeah, my feet look HUGE but it's just the angle of the photo!).

My feet look more normal in this pic! :)

I love that pic but your jeans are so skinny I didn't spot you at first. I thought you were one of the suspension cables! :)

Totally agree with you, Damon.
In my case I am 1.68 mts and my weight is 59 kilos. I am considered slim by most people. In spite of not being that tall, skinny jeans suit well on me. Actually, If I were to wear baggy jeans, they'd look awful on me because since i am short they make me look even shorter.
But I dont know, for some reason when I go out with skinny jeans I get the stare from many males in the street and that does not make me feel that comfortable.
You need to move to the UK! Even in the provincial town where I live (let alone London) dudes wearing skinny jeans are so common that nobody gives them a second glance. They're just normal.
Damon
I agree with you and Mark! I will stick to things I'm better at, like growing hair! I must let the proper guys handle the skinny jeans! Like my Grandpa used to say
"you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear"! Okay, I'm done ranting!
Ted
Well if I am seeing what I think I am in that picture, it looks like a proper fit for Skinny Jeans, unlike baggy jeans, means your pants are not on the ground. But with Skinny Jeans for a true proper fit, your wallet should be on the ground.{Smile}(Pic. right foot). If you had that wallet in your Skinny Jeans you could just cough when you had to make change..LOL
I have toned muscular legs and wear them, and my thighs are huge lol :P
To respond to your question I decided to google some pictures to give you a better idea.
These are slim fit jeans:
These are skinny jeans:
As you can tell, slim fit are slimmer than regular jeans . Skinny jeans have to be skin tight.
When I was a teen I used to wear regular baggy jeans. But then I realized that baggy jeans do not look good on me because I am short (1.68 mts -not sure how that is in American measure). So baggy jeans do not look good on me because since I am short they make me look shorter.
So I tried skinny jeans -not the slim fit, skintight- and they look better. They make me look taller I guess.
When I visited the US I havent been able to find real skinny jeans. I have been to Urban Outfitters in NYC and all I found were Levi's slim fit jeans but I could find super tight skinny jeans at H&M, but they were super super super tight. I could not even get out of them after I tried them hahaha.
Also, for some reason I havent seen too many guys in NYC wearing skinny jeans. When I visited L.A skinny jeans rocked everywhere. Not sure why.
Google says your this tall in "America" Dave :) 5 feet 6 inches
Just my own personal I observation, it seems that mostly teens and early 20s folks wear these jeans in my part if the country. And it's always someone who is stick thin wearing them!
I've never worn them but not sure how I'd feel. Im not a huge fan of my clothes hugging my skin! I'm 6'0 and 159 lbs so most people say I'm "skinny".
Thanks for that Tommy!
Here in my country skinny jeans are used by anyone, no matter what age. Well, I would say anyone UP TO 35 or so.
Where do you live btw ?
When I've been to L.A I've seen a lot of guys wearing skinny jeans. Even guys with overweight . So probably it depends on where you live.
I like skinny jeans just because regular jeans make me look shorter , even the slim fit ones .
I agree, now that I think about it they do make one look taller as they accentuate the legs. I live in Indiana, around Indianapolis. I'd say overall Indianapolis is definitely not as trendy as NYC or LA.

Hi Tommy D,
I've seen shorter guys wearing skinny jeans and I have to agree with Dave as it does give the illusion that you are taller than you actually are.Guessing it gives the impression of height since your legs look longer with those kind if jeans. I agree they are not for everyone and physique does a play a role in how they work for someone. As for who wears them well I'm 51 and it doesn't bother me to wear these jeans just as it doesn't bother me to wear long hair at my age.I wear what I enjoy and I like the look and feel of skinny jeans. Of course I do have regular jeans that I wear when I want to do something different but definitely no baggies! Lol.Cheers my friend

Most of the time i'm wearing cut off shorts, but I do have a number of regular fitting jeans, as well ss overalls, and baggy
jeans (wide leg JNCOs.)
I don't have the body for wearing skinny jeans, so i'll stick with the regular jaans, wide leg jeans. and cut off shorts.
What is the difference between skinny jeans and tights?
I would mention that around here in the part of the US of A school
dress codes forbid the wearing of skinny jeans.
Well, skinny jeans are made of jean material basically . I guess haha.
But aren't they supposed to fit the same?
Not really. Skinny jeans fold a little bit. Tights dont.
How or where are they supposed to fold?
I posted several pictures on this topic showing the difference between slim fit jeans and skinny jeans.
You should probably see them to realize how skinny jeans should fit.

Well like Dave said skinny jeans are made from denim fabric and tights I'd assume are like what were called leotards.Do they even call them that anymore! Lol.Cheers

Yup. A lot of people haven't got a clue what skinny jeans are. I regularly come across comments like the following on internet forums when the issue of skinny jeans on dudes is raised:
'Girl: "I don't mind skinny jeans on guys so long as they're a bit loose and not too tight."'
No 'Girl', those are NOT skinny jeans then are they? She's actually talking about "slim fit" jeans that she THINKS are "skinny" jeans - because either she hasn't got a clue or that's what the manufacturer put on the label or the shop put on the sign in an effort to fool people like her into believing the jeans are cool.
Jeans like those in the image above - made by a well-known Italian company and advertised as "skinny" - are just a laugh! It's hard to believe that ANYONE could think those jeans are "skinny" but that's how the manufacturer describes them (see link) and they cost a fortune! Amazing!
Over here in the UK, skinny jeans are by definition skintight; anything else is NOT skinny jeans.

The jeans in the image
... Hell do they need 250 dollars for a pair of jeans? If I'm going to pay that much for a pair of jeans, they better be made out of woven gold.
Yeah, staggering isn't it? And they ain't even "as advertised" (i.e. "skinny)!
Here's the link again for those who missed it (it was hidden below a long post in my previous post):

I like how the brand tag line is "For Successful Living". I would consider myself to be "living successfully" but I'm sure not going to spend $250 for a pair of jeans! They should change it to "for people who have so much money they don't know what to do with it all"

Hi Guys...
I'm Bill's short haired husband, but he told me about this thread on here about "Skinny Jeans", since I wear them, and he thought I'd be interested in reading what you've all been saying. I enjoyed all of your comments!
I really like the look and the feel of skintight skinny jeans and have for a long time. I like the lower rise jeans, too, so I've been happy to see the skinny, low rise jeans become popular again.
Here in San Francisco they are somewhat popular, and I see quite a few guys wearing them, but more guys still seem to wear slim fit jeans than the skinny. I wish it was like what you guys in the UK say you have going with lots of skinny jeans being worn.
For a long time I've been trying to find skintight jeans with boot cut bottoms, since I wear boots all the time, but no one seems to make them. The skinny jeans are tight all the way to the ankle and the boot cut jeans aren't tight enough. Levis made a style 597 that was boot cut and somewhat low rise (9-inch rise) and tight for a short time a couple years ago, but they didn't make them for long. Styles come, styles go.
So like Mark-Hairball, I had a couple pair custom made by Make Your Own Jeans Co. That seems to be the answer. You can specify exactly what you want your jeans to look like, including the exact waist size, the length, the rise height, how tight you want them around your legs, how big you want the bottoms, and the style you want for the pockets and other stuff including regular or stretch denim material. The $50 price is not bad either. I've been happy with both pair I've got from them, and I plan to order more.
Larry
Hi Larry
I've never heard of skinny jeans with boot-cut bottoms! It sorta defeats the ob ject. That would be like looking for a Ferrari with carriage shafts so it could be drawn by horses! :)
The whole idea of skinny jeans is to be worn tucked INSIDE the boots unless worn with trainers (or 'soft' boots like Converse Hi-Tops). It's part of the 'look'.
But yeah, the beauty of ordering custom-made jeans is that you can have them anyway you want. I wanted extra-wide belt-loops on mine so I could wear a wide belt with them. It's kinda nice to have your own style.
Glad you like skinny jeans. I love 'em myself.

Larry is part of a group that has a particular interest in boot cut jeans. He founded a group for "bootmen" (that is what they call themselves, like we call ourselves "longhairs") that is similar to MLHH. Larry and I often compare the two groups. One comparison we've made is that longhairs debate when and where to let their hair down or put it in a tail, while bootmen debate when and where to wear their pants outside of their boots or inside of them. :-)
Bill
Interesting site, not quite what I was expecting, but each to their own!!
Wow! Thanks, Bill. There's a whole world out there I never knew existed!
But hey, if those guys love boots so much you'd think they would DEFINITELY want to wear them OUTSIDE their jeans. What's the point of buying awesome boots and then hiding them INSIDE their jeans???!!! :)
Those boots I'm wearing in the pic above (taken last winter) are only cheap garbage but I'm wearing even those with my jeans tucked in.

Hi Larry,
Great seeing you here commenting on this particular thread.I have to admit before I discovered that makeyourownjeans (myoj) company it was always a struggle finding a brand of jeans that fit like true skinny jeans.Yea I went the slim fit jean route too and they were alright when compared to regular fit ones but just not really that exact fit you want.I actually first heard about myoj from an ebay seller I was buying jeans from.He was even nice enough to loan me two pairs of his myoj creations to try on:)We must have been the same physical size as his jeans fit me perfectly! On his jeans he did prefer a flare at the bottom for wearing boots so that's how he had his made.My first custom pair was made just like his but my second pair was made a true skinny with them tight all down to the ankles. That was the pair I was photographed in during my SF trip on the Golden Gate Bridge. So its nice having the ability to really get what you want at an affordable price:) I see more of those customs in my future also.Cheers

I would point all the stores around here have slim fit jeans,
none of the stores carry skinny jeans.
And even if you do find a store that has "skinny jeans" they
apparently are actually slim fit jeans.
I gather skinny jeans (or at least *true* skinny jeans), like long hair, have not caught on as much in the US as they have in Western Europe. Apart from a few spots on the East and West Coasts, I wonder if most American men are far more terrified of even the tiniest thing that might be perceived as compromising their masculinity? It certainly seems so from what I read.
