Hi guys,
I've been under the weather for the last 10 days so haven't been able to cycle so being the obsessive that I am, my mind wanders to another interest: my long hair! For better or worse, this means being subjected to another photo thread!
I do wonder though if I can finally say I've reached waist length. Waist on men is lower than on women I believe. My hair without question is continuing to lengthen albeit slowly. I think this may be the longest it's ever been. If I can't reach classic with my genes maybe there's an outside possibility I could reach belt-length.
At least getting close to waist...
A slightly different angle...
This is day two hair so it's a little greasy. I did a thorough coconut oiling on Sunday, left it until Monday evening and then washed the scalp, conditioned the length and applied a small bit of Ojon oil to my wet hair.
Hi Jason,
I have to say that your hair looks awesome these days, and cheers for achieving more length, and attaining what I think is indeed waist length. (I think Scott would have a really good idea as to what the actual definition of waist length on men is, and my impression is that it is close to the small of the back, just above the belt line)
I think that you are "good to go" for at least a few more inches, and good luck as you strive towards your goal of classic length.
Take care,
David
Hi David,
Thanks! I admit it's exciting to be at least close to this goal and hopefully it's just a stop on my way to a greater one.
Are you still golfing? It's been a beautiful autumn so far. Maybe you can try that Ojon oil once you put away the clubs! :)
Take care,
Jason

I would say you are at most 2 inches from waist length, Jason. (Use the height of your navel for reference.) If you gently tug to straighten out the waves, you are probably already there.
Long hair forever.
Scott
I checked in the bathroom mirror and when I pull my hair all the way down in the back, it's at the equivalent of where my navel is in front. I'm not sure if this "counts" because I had to pull out my waves. When my hair is wet, it must be at that length with no tugging on it.
---------------
Give it a few more months and you should have free hanging waist length hair. Next step is beltline length. Best wishes.
Long hair forever.
Scott
Well, I am impressed!
Your hair looks great-
Have you lost weight, too?
Thanks. I lost 45 pounds a couple of years ago. I've kept it off but have probably put a few pounds back on this past week with not being active.
Bad a** hair there sir! Man, wish my hair was that long now, but i'll catch up to ya in the future LOL. :) I'd say you are at lower back length just above waist length (about two inches away from reaching waist) but so close dude! Your ends look in good condition so I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to make it to belt or classic length.
Thanks Mark! You're going to have amazing healthy hair at this length. The last few inches of my hair are not in the best of health but I'm pushing forward at this point. I'm looking forward to following your regrowth journey.
Hi Jason,
First of all, I hope you are feeling better! I am so inspired by your hair man! The different colors I can see are amazing! I love being subjected to photo threads from you and your inspiring hair!
I do believe if you stretch the waves you are at waist. I surely hope you can grow to belt length and even longer! I can't see why not, given that your hair is thick all the way to the ends. I don't see much taper there my friend! The only thing I don't look forward to is when I no longer see growth so easily.
Your hair definitely seems to like the care you give it! I thank you for posting these awesome pics! Hopefully one of these days I will have hair that length. Right now it just seems like I am stuck with the dreaded triangle hair! Seems to just be growing out, not down! I know you didn't go through that! Right Jason? Please keep up the good work growing!
Ted
Hi Ted,
I'm really prone to seasonal allergy problems and once I get sinus issues, they're hard to get rid of. Slowly, I'm recovering. Thanks.
I'm glad my hair can serve as inspiration and that you're not bothered by the photo threads!
Hang in there man! Your hair is more dense than mine so that's causing it to bush out some now but you're going to be more than rewarded for your patience. With added weight, all that hair is going to flow down your back and will look absolutely incredible. I'll be green with envy at your volume!
I hope you grow to at least waist-length!
Thanks again!
Jason
Hi Jason,
Thanks for the compliments my friend! I just want all of my hair to be in the back like yours. I am pretty sure when I grow out all these stupid layers that will happen. Believe me, I am not giving in for amything! And yes, I am hoping to at least get to waist length! My original goal was mid-back, but that just seems so short! I am definitely looking forward to seeing your progress too!
I want you to recover quickly and get back on that bike! Please stay healthy my friend! Those allergies can be a real bear to deal with.
Ted
You've got a great mane in all the ways we look at one: It's thick, it's long, it has an attractive color and sheen, and it has just enough wave to give it bulk. Jason, it rocks!
Unlike with women, most men consider their waist to be where their belt is. This is because most men don't have a vertical profile that wavers due to child-bearing hips. Men are usually taller than women, too. These two situations mean an average man has to grow longer hair to reach his waist than an average woman has to to reach hers.
Yeah, bending sideways can get you there. Try bending forwards! Your mane would then reach your knees. [wink]
Cool it's still growing!
Bill
LOL, I might even get floor length if I bend far enough. I've had so much fun with my long hair journey. It's nice to get a little excitement back as it appears I can still reach some new goals. Of course, if I end up only at this length, I'll be very content.
Until I read through this thread, I was thinking waist-length and belt length were more-or-less the same thing. But then of course most men now wear their belt closer to the hips than the natural waist.
I know this isn't quite the topic, but your hair is very striking because of the variation in color, i.e. natural highlights/lowlights.
Chris
I used to think that as well but I've since come to think of waist as being more around where the navel is. I'm definitely hoping that I can achieve hair to where my belt would be too.
Thanks about the color variations. My hair does have a mix of shades that are especially brought out in various lights.
Hi Jason,
Very nice update as you hair is really looking fantastic! You mentioned it's day two hair as I can tell
it looks a tad flatter at your scalp but mine is the exact same way.Of course that's due to the natural oils produced so lately I've been washing my hair every other day since by day three its really oily looking.Funny though as it brushes out nicer at that point so a bit of a trade off.As for length it would be great to eek out some more and looks like you should.Like you if my current length is as long as it gets I'll be totally satisfied as at least I still have all my hair.Cheers
Mârk
Hi Mark,
Thanks! Yes, it's a trade-off between manageability and cleanliness. By day two, I love that the frizz is gone and I can brush my hair through much more easily but I don't care for the weighed down look if it's too severe. Someimes day one can be the perfect mix of the two. I find it depends on how thoroughly I shampooed and how active I've been since.
It appears that my hope for more length rests squarely with treating those ends with extra care. So far, so good!
You have achieved a fantastic length as well and it's good that we're both happy with what we have. A day doesn't pass that I don't thank the hair gods for so far being spared the ravages of MPB and I'm sure you feel the same!
Don't even say or write those three horrible letters, Jason! YIKES! :o
Hehe...
LOL!! Good thing I'm not superstitious but I hear you!
It kills me to see guys with great, thick hair never grow it long or even experiment. It's such a waste.
DAmn buddy, I don't think I've EVER seen your hair looking better! Love the slight wave, and especially the color! It all looks so natural and free.... Absolutely fantastic, and you are definitely not far off waist length!
Fantastic! :)
Why thank you! With fine hair like mine, I just can't get away with doing nothing extra and hope to achieve extraordinary lengths. Oiling appears to be the key to unlock greater length.
I can't wait to see your hair at this length! With your hair's greater thickness, it's going to look a-m-a-z-i-n-g!
Looking superb, Jason!
Waist length - a rather fuzzy term. The consensus seems to be lower back, between the rib cage and sacrum.
- Oren
Thanks Oren! Well, I guess I'll just have to keep growing to cover all the bases!
Hey Jason,
Your hair is looking SUPERB there -- so I for one will not be one to bicker over whether it's "technically" waist length or not!
I like the tilted head version! Whenever I tilt my head downward myself, I easily reach my knees (and am tempted to tease Scott that by me tilting it even more, my hair is then longer than Scott's because it can hit below my knees that way - LOL)!
Anyway, great update, and hope your mane will continue to eek out yet even more length in the future!
- Ken
Hey Ken,
Thanks, I appreciate the superlatives! I think we're in the same boat as far as getting extra length thanks to our oiling routines. It sounds like you're very regular in your olive oil applications after showering and it's definitely led to fantastic results with your mane continuing to lengthen. Who knows? Maybe you can eek out some more length too!
Jason
It is an interesting topic you bring up Jason. I guess everyone definition of your waste is slightly different. I always considered it to be where my hips are, but it sounds like it may actually be higher up! I guess what I was thinking would be more "belt line" length as a few have mentioned!
It seems to vary on the individual as well. I'd say for most men, waist is 2 - 3 inches above the belt.
Indeed. Particularly on men. I chuckle when thinking about when this topic was being discussed a few years ago, and one heavy set user, upon seeing another user's definition of waist as being his torso's narrowest point, exclaimed, "My waist is right under my armpits!"
Men and women are not made alike (thank goodness). Someone in this thread suggested one's belly button is where the waist is. My belly button is several inches above my waist. Yeah, it's up in the middle of my belly. Maybe that is why it's called the "belly button", wouldja think?
I just this week discovered I have one hair strand that reaches my belly button, so by that definition I have waist length hair! That hair is rooted right under my chin. [wink] Yeah, men and women are not alike.
Bill
Fantastic Hair. Wonderfull shiny look. Combining conditioner with oils makes such a beautiful show of hair.
I also combine conditioner with oils. I embedd hair with conditioner for 15 minutes out of the shower then rinse off. Apply Chi Silk Serum on the ends, then an Itallian blend, Orofuldio, on the top, to finalize the silk appearaqnce.
The second photo below shows the beauty of long hair to enjoy for what this is. Tillted head, then hair drapped to your side over the shoulder. What a beautiful sight to see.
I can only think of these images to compare with Leonardo Di Vinci. He loved long hair, frequently showing men with curls on the muscular build in many of his paintings. His own long hair is diagrammemmed continuing to old age. Your hair is also so wonderful. But behind the fences in the photos by yourself.
I wore my hair down in the far north coast of California at an artisan fair Sept. 21. Most of the guys wore their long hair down. I just blended in. So much hair to see, in addition to the arts and crafts.
All my best,
Don
Hi Don,
Thanks for the kind words and your interesting remarks. It's always nice to capture long hair in photography done outside. I find the two complement each other very well.
It's nice that you were able to mingle with fellow longhairs at that festival. I'm curious how your hair is looking. Perhaps you could update us?!
Jason
Hi Jason,
Showing long hair outside shows much more detail in addition to background sceenery. The North Coast Calif. exhibitions always provide long hair reinforcement as a social norm. I agree that I am long overdure for a post. I was waiting for the fall colors to get better for pictures. I will post right now.
