A beautician told me the Metformin slows down hair growth...(but not stops it.) I could not find anything about this online..
That would would explain my experience...
(Slowly) growing outward and downward...
The Spaf Man
Here is the drug information for Metformin. Hair is not listed as a side effect. But you should check with your doctor as it
may have other side effects.
Also other medication may have side effects
involving hair. (Like Thyroid medication.)
You should consult your doctor.
Metformin
He has me going for a sleep study as I probably have sleep apnea .... said that slows down the metabolism...
.. thanks for the input.
It is just taking me longer to grow out..
Peace - Outward and Downward...
Nonsense, old beautician's tale. I have been on metformin for years without any such effects.
I knew a guy who said his epilepsy drugs made him go bald :-(
Don't know anything re diabetes drugs, though.
You should read up on some of these drugs.
My brother in law was taking a really awful drug for his
Epilepsy. It may have helped his epilepsy but it rotted his
teeth, destroyed his bones and stomach in the process.
In recent years he has had a lot of broken bones.
The moral of the story here: ask your doctor a lot of questions
about these drugs, the side effects, and whether there are better
alternatives.
Hi Spaf Man,
I don't have diabetes so can't help you there. But I take meds for my kidney disease and haven't noticed any difference in my growth.
On a lighter note, patience seems to be the only reliable method for growth:) Hope you have supernatural growth progress!
Ted
Wonder where the beautician got that idea? Metformin is a well-tolerated medication with minimal side effects. I have been on it for around 15 years, and never noticed any such effect. Diabetes itself can affect hair growth, if you have consistently high glucose readings due to poor blood sugar control, your hair can become thin and brittle, and growth can be slowed down. High sugars damage capillaries that feed hair follicles.
Also if you're diabetic and take thyroid medication that can
result in hair thinning.
My wife is on thyroid medication and has thinning hair.
Check with your doctor on any medication issues.
That may be the case.... I may have to start insulin soon if blood tests do not improve....doctor says if the sleep study shows I need a CPAP , then maybe if I can start sleeping bettter I can lose weight easier....
Thank you all for you kind responces.
That wasn't my quote. Please be careful in attributing quotes.
Sorry about that......my mistake...... but thank you all for your kind responces
