His beard was legendary when he played for the San Francisco Giants. Fans wore large fake beards and held "Fear the Beard" signs in the stands. His beard is his trademark.

Sounds alot like Boston in the playoffs. I would mention that when the Boston Red Sox won the World Series this year bearsd were very big. Alot of fans got on the beard bandwagon and the Red Sox even had a beard day when any fan who wore a beard (real or fake) got in for a reduced ticket price.
