Two weeks ago my grandma turned 80 and we gave her a surprise party. We invited all of our family and her friends (all ladies, the youngest one was probably 75 years old)
That day I wore my hair loose and was expecting to get negative comments about it (either from relatives , etc ).
Surprisingly, my grandma came to my house today and she said she spoke to her friends about me. Her 75 year old friends were amazed with my hair. I was actually expecting to get negative feedback specially from them considering that people around that age tend to be more conservative. But no. My grandma said to me that they had said that my hair was amazing and I looked like a model with that long hair hahaha (ok, probably at that age they really need glasses ).
That's great and it's always feel good to get such compliments. I find that most of the positive comments I get are also from older women. Don't know why that is but appreciated every one of them. Hope you and your grandma have a great holiday.

Hey Dave_AR,
With age come wisdom. Your grandmother and her friends recognize that your hair is awesome. Your hair and your features put together make you look no less than stunning. They also recognize that you have an inner strength to be yourself and to express yourself in spite of pressure to conform. Your grandmother and her friends recognize that you are a beautiful and poised gentleman and that you are not putting up any false front around them to conform to an image of a young man you think they want you to be. Your hair, your personality, your style, and your beauty internal and external is refreshing to them.
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
You know, Dave, I expected to get plenty of negative comments too - I work in a senior center - I have not had one negative comment - and some compliments - a couple of the ladies have even taken the liberty of "running their fingers" through my hair - and making a suggestive statement - I don't mind being the ob ject of someone's fantasy (at my age, too!)
You are a heck of alot better looking than me! Glad it went favorably.
Fitz
Hi Fitz! Funny you would mention that...I work in a nursing home, and one lady in a wheelchair commented that my ponytail is getting long...
(Glad she thinks so...it curls up)
Keep growin!
Glad it went well Dave. I may be in a similar situation soon. I have been wondering what my family reaction will be on Thanksgiving next week...I'll see a lot of extended family that I haven't seen in almost a year!

Same thing happens to me all the time. Not sure why they like it but they do.
Hi Vinny,
Ha! I bet I can figure out why they like it! Beautiful thick hair man!
Ted
Thanks man! I'm a touch older now but I still have most of it!
No, thank you Vinny! I appreciate the inspiration! One of these days I will get there!
Ted
Your hair looks great.....thick and wavy...
(Mine is thin and wavy)
They have old lady crushes on you ;-)
Hi Dave,
Very nice story! Thanks for sharing! However, I would suspect that you are getting looks from girls your age too! After all, you are a very handsome guy! Please keep it growing and flowing my friend!
Ted
I've mentioned on this board before that I belong to a civil war group and the average age of those in the organization
is about 78 or higher. When I first joined the organization
I nervous about how my long hair would be received. I was absolutely not going to cut it.
Well i've now been in the organization for 3 1/12 years now,
and have received absolutely no complaints. Most of the time
I wear my hair down and loose.
There is one woman who very much loves my hair,
she is the wife of our past department commander.
That's awesome. I'm sure they see fine.
They know good looks when they see them....
In general, I've found older people (especially ladies) tend to be more tolerant about my hair and general appearance than people my own age. Not sure why that is. Maybe they're less judgemental of young people as they get older themselves? Dunno ...
I went into a local pub the other evening. It's in a quiet side street and run and used by old people. My friends sneer at it and won't go near it but I quite like it. Unlike my usual haunts, this pub doesn't play loud rock music and it's kinda nice to be able to talk without shouting yourself hoarse sometimes. Plus the music they do play is ancient pop stuff from the 1980s or 1990s so it's kinda quaint too.
I still had black eyeliner and black nail polish on from the night before plus a couple of liprings and I was dressed all in black with a studded belt and wristband so I guess I looked kinda gothy. The atmosphere would have been palpably hostile in a typical 'townie' pub. But in this pub the people were really friendly to me and went out of their way to make me feel welcome. They insisted on buying me drinks and begging me to come back for their quiz night and stuff. I felt like a celebrity!
The only problem is they grill you on the latest trends and then pin you down with all the stories of what they did when they were young and how everything has got worse! :)
Bet you loved all the compliments. You look cool so not surprising really!
Damon
