I can't believe this didn't hurt!
I saw that yesterday! I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often, long hair in the NFL is very common now.

Hi Tommy,
Yes, you are correct. Football is a very unforgiving and rough sport.
Ted
Not only hurt but I wonder how much his scalp might have bled from that!
That's gotta be the worst fear of anyone with long hair and that is getting large
chucks pulled out regardless of how it happened.Yikes!
Hi Mark,
That is the hazard of having long hair and playing football. I'm not sure I would want to take that chance!
Ted
The lsat I heard though there were 63 players in the NFL with long hair. So a good number of them are taking that chance.
Hi Ted,
I hear you as I would never want to be in a position where my hair could
get pulled out like that.Well at least I'll never have to worry about playing football as I wouldn't last five seconds on the field! Lol

I'd say it's more likely that they unravelled or snapped rather than being pulled out by the roots.
It probably did hurt but then so does a torn ACL, broken leg, concussion, torn ligament, etc.
When it comes to football there is one
lead pipe cinch, there will be lots
of injuries.
The team will start the season at 90 players,
it gets cuts down to 57 shortly thereafter,
by the time the season ends in week 16
that football team resembles a
MASH unit. Alot of injuries will occur in the
season, that is all part of the game of football.
And there is always the possibility that any
football player is only seconds away from
a season ending injury or even a career ending
injury.
And then there are concussions. Junior Seau committed
suicide and his team mates estimate that he
suffered at least 1500 concussions throughout his
football career (grade school, high school, college, pro
football). If you want to read something really scary
about concussions read want Brent Farve had to say about
not remembering his daughters soccer games. Who knows what
the future holds for football players and concussions.
Something to think about when you see video of
a football player tossing a football to his kids
at the local football stadium.
Ultimately the team that wins the Super Bowl
will be the team that best adjusts to the
many injuries.
Hi LHIA,
I would agree with this. Football is a very rough and unforgiving sport.
Ted
But given the chance of a life time to play in the Super Bowl
many of these players would choose to play no matter how
badly they were injured. (Bottom line; that player may never make
it back to the Super Bowl in his career.)
Many players never make it to the Super Bowl.
Many players only make it to the Super Bowl once.
Same with the World Series, NBA finals, NHL finals.
Hi Viking,
You could be correct here. Hopefully so!
Ted
Those football players with the "mid back hair/dreads" are wearing hair extensions. It's not their real hair. It may hurt a bit but the hair will be fixed with new extensions by the next game.
Do you have a source for this?
The last I heard there were 63 football players in the NFL with
long hair, I hadn't heard anything about them having
extensions.
It surely did, but football is a very rough sport. "Lots of pain" comes with the territory. No one plays pro football who is scared of getting hurt.
What "the rest of us" should be wary of if we have long hair is that worse things than losing a chunk of hair can happen if our hair gets caught in something. We don't have the strong neck muscles that football players have developed. We don't have their body weight. We don't have the musculature in general they have. Lacking those things, if our hair gets caught in something that pulls it, we can end up with a broken neck or being pulled in to and mauled by rotating machinery.
Longhairs working underneath cars have had the rotating shaft there grab their hair and then drag them into the machinery. Some have died. A similar risk exists with the grinders that cut up tree parts are thrown into. It's a problem with any rotating machinery on a construction site. Fans that suck in air can also suck in your hair to start the process.
Lacking the weight and muscles to put a brake on that machinery that a football player would have, our hair may not snap. We may be pulled into the machinery instead.
