Hey guys, hope everyone is doing well. Just passing by to post my 8 month update after a shaved head. I washed my hair yesterday which is why it looks greasy, sorry bout that. The pic on the bottom right is my hair tucked behind my ears to show off my beard, which i've also been growing for about 6 weeks.
Just a question, many people say that my hair will not weigh itself down even as it gets longer due to it's thickness, what do you guys think? Im my opinion, my hair should've already gotten less poofy than when it was shorter. The picture isn't really helping since it doesn't normally look that neat. I'm worried that it won't weigh down..
People are telling you silly and untrue tales possibly to dissuade you from growing.
Rest assured as it grows the weight will take charge and help enormously. What you have already seen is the start of that. Keep growing, when brushed forward it is already looming good - you'll soon get there.
Thanks for the advice, definitely looking forward to more growth!
OK - Hugo - here's the deal - You've got a fantastic head of hair - it is absolutely beautiful. The longer it gets, the more wonderful it will look... Don't worry about poofy hair. Don't worry about a darn thing with the hair you've got... just hang in there - the next few months are probably the most challenging as you go through the awkward stage... just hang in there, OK?
I guess we'll see in a few months how it looks, thanks for the feedback.
Hey Hugo!
I know how you feel, having a REALLY similar hairtype to yours, but trust me, bro... EVERY single type of hair (or material at all, for that matter) has to react to gravity, and WILL do so ;)
I think your hair looks great for 8 months from a shaved head (and it gives me some perspective on my own journey as well), and I greatly encourage you to keep it ut through the awkward stage! Another 6 months or so and you're golden, you'll see :)
My goal is to grow it for another 8 months, it'll probably look a lot better by then. Thanks for the encouragement.
Looks Great.
Thank you, nice hair!
Hi Hugo,
I think we are usually our own worst critics. I know that because I do it too about my own hair. What looks to you like "poofy" on your own head looks to others like "thick, nicely textured, how can I get that?" I know guys who invest in expensive salon cuts and hair products to get just that look.
My hair, poofy like yours, is starting to lay down nicely, except in the very back, at 6 inches of length.
Chris
Hi Chris,
I couldn't have said it any better! Thanks for posting this! It is amazing how much money people spend to get a certain "look"! And the sad part about that is a lot of people have the same "look"! I don't want to look like everyone else!
Ted
Absolutely true!
Hi Hugo,
First of all, your hair is looking fantastic my friend! You have made such excellent progress for only 8 months from a shaved head! You do have very nice and thick hair to work with man! The beard is also spectacular I must say!
It sounds to me like the people don't know what they are talking about. I am pretty sure most of the members here who have longer hair would disagree with this. Your hair is going to poof out until all the lengths get even and the hair weighs itself down. I have been growing my hair for about 14 months. And my hair still poofs out. Especially when I first wash with shampoo.
I would just ignore the idiots and let your hair grow! When you get past shoulder length I think your hair will flatten out some. People will always find something to be critical of! And like Chris said, what we see is not always what others see. We are our own worst critics! Let Mother Nature handle your hair. Bet you won't be disappointed! Hope this helps!
Ted
Thank you Ted for the advice. I guess i'm just still in the early stages of long hair, i hope it eventually looks better.
The hair is looking good Hugo! My hair is very thick like yours, and extremely poofy as well. I'm in between 13-14 months now and I am still dealing with it...I have faith that at some point it will calm down, but for now I'm just dealing with it. I know it looks terrible most days, but I guess the end goal justifies the means to get there eh? Props for the beard as well! Are you growing your beard long as well?
Hey Tommy, i take it as a compliment you comparing my hair to yours, you have very nice hair. As for the beard, i'm gonna leave it about the same length as the pic, not growing it out too long.
Looking great!
Thanks!
Your hair is looking great....
I wish I had the same fullness...
Keep growing and don't give up!
Ps....nice beard too
Thanks for the kindness!
Thank you to everyone who posted some feedback, i really appreciate it! Looking forward to more months of hair growth ahead of me.

Hi Hugo,
First of all being a bit late responding I have to say your hair looks great at this stage and has the potential to look fabulous as it lengthens:)Most important is to not micro manage your hair growth as it will get to whatever length you desire on its own. Please do keep us posted as you progress on your journey and do stick around even after your goal is met.You can be future inspiration to newbies to longhair like a lot of us here are.
Oh before I forget, when you post a message be sure to include your e mail address so your avatar picture shows since your a registered user here. Also gets your posts up faster too:) Cheers my friend.

Thanks for the compliments, i'll keep posting my hair updates, and sorry bout the email thing, i'd forgotten.
That's a lot of progress for only 8 months ! Congratulations !
I would not worry about other people's opinion. Your hair WILL weigh down because that is how gravity works and you can't go against it :) And even if it does not weigh down, I think the "messy" kind of look will suit perfectly with you and your beard.
Please, don't even hesitare to cut it and hang in there .
Até já :)
Dave, thanks for the compliments! I gotta ask you, i'm also in law school (started 3rd semester February), does the lonh hair interfere in anything?
You have a WONDERFUL head of hair there, Hugo, just keep it growing and enjoy every minute of the poofiness, as it will only last for a few more months; then gradually weigh itself more downward instead of outward. It takes awhile, though. I hope you won't feel discouraged by me saying this, but: you are only in the beginning stages of the awkward phase -- it takes some time to get it long enough so that it will behave in a way that won't be quite as "wild man" looking...
Rather than try to fight it, just enjoy the roller coaster ride, take plenty of photos, and eventually you'll look back on the experience with a big proud smile on your face!
"Onward & Downward!" (with a little more OUTWARD before the "down" direction takes place - LOL),

I got this far, why quit now right? I'll just go with flow, thanks for the compliments!
Hugo, I am late to reply here as I never posted here yet but figured it out now.
I think you should let your head hair grow long for a year or 2 with out trimming. You should keep your beard growing too either short trimmed, bushy, or grow it longer along with the head hair. You are a handsome young man with or without facial hair and long or short head hair. A guy should grow a beard and long head hair at least once in his life.
I listened to and watched some of your you tube vids. You have a very good voice and sing in English very well.
Looking forward to seeing your long hair and beard growing progress updates.
